Myth 1-agreed 100%,,,,Myth 2-def mood of the fish and where your fishing,,,,Myth 3- agreed but again, depends on location. Ive never felt that the bass think its a frog. As far as bending the hooks out im a firm believer that if ive got to bend the hooks out im either using the wrong rod or the frog belongs in the trash period. Nobody will ever change my mind on that.
Just my opinion, bass kill a frog a lot but don't actually commit to eat it. They can spit it fast. Sometimes you'll miss them. If the frog is gone, I set the hook. If I can't tell if the frog is gone (low light), I set the hook after a blowup. Sometimes it's a miss. I use an 8:1 reel so I can get the frog back out there IF I miss it. I've caught fish on the second cast after I pull it away from them. For retrieves, I do vary it a lot. Sometimes I reel fast for a second and kill it to let it sit; mice that panic act like this. There have been times that the only way I could get a bit is to move is a yard or two really fast and kill it. I always start walking a frog. Sometimes it's a steady walk, but I'll throw a stop-and-go walk in. I agree with a lot of what you're saying. I'm from New Hampshire and there is a lot of vegetation and I've fished frogs in water with 8 foot visibility with braid. Bass will destroy this bait in clear water even with braid. I live in Texas now and Ray Roberts is my home lake.
I’ve never been to picky on top water colors. For years when we had to weight our own rats and frogs most everyone threw a black with a yellow nose on gville. One myth I’ve heard a lot is early morning and late evening for top water bites, but some of my biggest bites have come after 1pm in the dead summer. Do you ever cut your tails off?
You are giving out a lot of good fishing info. You are correct! Let me iterate the only reason I cut mine off was because they were on top of the mat 99% of the time and we did get a little more distance on the throw.

Great tips and I will take the word of the guy whom designed the bait . Here in upstate NY it took forever to get on a frog bite this year .Just this past 2 weeks have I actually turned to a frog as the first bait I pull out of the rod locker in the morning and evenings .I have had one tied on for 2 months but they just where not feeding up and the grass was not grown in enough or something . What ever the case maybe glad they are eating it now . Love the content and have been enjoying all the knowledge the last 6 months or so. Even though the fishing is a bit different here there is always something in the vids I can apply to my lakes .
Like to hear how you said they weren't feeding up, its crazy you don't hear that much. It pisses me off when everything is setup and they just won't come up, very frustrating.
Agree, Set hook immediately. My retrieve depends on water temp. Summer-Fast Spawn- Tap- Tap let it sit. Chartreuse belly 90% of time. I do bend hooks up and in on the frog I throw,
I agree with everything, another myth is “when you miss one, throw straight back in there as fast as you can” Not with a frog... If one takes it under and I miss it, even though I wanna throw straight back in there I’ve learned, SQUEEZE the water out first. Otherwise I’ll just miss him again cause the frogs full of water from the initial bite and it won’t collapse. Its hard to catch one that I just missed two casts in a row. I’ve had better luck not even casting back, go back in 20 minutes and make a long cast back to the fish...
You don't have to squeeze the water out on all the new popping perches or pad perches and I'll explain why in the next video. NEW COOL DESIGN WE'VE HAD FOR OVER A YEAR.
All I know is I’ve been mimicking your style of frog fishing from watching your videos and I’ve caught 6 fish over 8lbs in the last two weeks doing it 🤷🏻♂️
Yeah I live in south Florida and I fish the bank on canals a lot almost every day. 90% of my frog bites are as soon as it hits the water or just a couple twitches. I almost never get a bite walking it. And really I would throw a spook if I really wanted a walking bait. To me frog fishing is about throwing it in the slop and hold on lol...
Most baits aren’t designed by pro fishermen in fact almost none. They do have influence over it. Phil Marks and I developed it and it was my first project with Strike King. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for making the "bottom up".. I've always thrown white just so I can see it... I agree to set the hook as fast as you can as long as the frog is gone. That's why I always throw a frog that I can see.. Yes, IMO colors matter in open water, not in the slop... Looking forward to the next vid!
@@toddcastledinefishing5924 I'm really looking forward to how fast you work it in open water. Hopefully you cover that because you mentioned most people work it to slow. Around here, it's all about the pause. I quick walk it 3 times and pause. They ALWAYS hit it on the pause.

awesome videos todd. love the format and content. going to try xplasma after being a long time power pro user because of your video. i live just outside san antonio and fish down at choke canyon a lot. weeds everywhere every summer. started using the popping perch kvd model that i got last year and love the design but ive caught way less fish with it than regular frogs. even when i fished it around and along cover and open water. is your design different? ive fished it along weed lines structure and cover walking spitting fast slow chuggin. not sure what gives. totally cant wait for the next episode.
Keep that lake quiet for a little longer its still flying under the radar. I get more bites on the popping perch than the pad perch or regular frog everywhere, and I mean EVERYWHERE I go. My 3rd episode might help ya.
Thanks for this.. !! I Don't frog fish a lot cause of confidence but had one come up by a floating stump the other day while my frog was just sitting there and he snatched it but didnt blow up on it. I did wait a second gave a decent hook set over the shoulder probably could have put little more on it but not bad, BUT i played him for 7 seconds and got off, I realize he only bit down on it and i didnt hook him. So I have a kistler 7'3 heavy frog rod on 65lb braid. Not sure i didn't hookset hard enough? Was live target brown frog but the hooks you cant feel running hand over. So not sure what the deal is. These vids will help. Thx !
Ok.......love the comment of what happened everything you might want to know will come on my next video so get ready. It should come out Thursday I’ll go over everything.
Thanks for the videos Todd. I always set the hook asap. The only time I take is the time it takes to see if my frog is gone. I fish a frog a lot and I don't miss or lose to many. I've got a question about the poppin perch. I bought a couple and I like the profile. Mine seem to sit really low in the water and sometimes even go under water. Is this by design? I have had a day where I whacked them on it yet or I probably wouldn't even care but I tend to put it down too quickly for this reason. P.S. Your videos are better than Hallmans and way better than Andrews 🤣 P.S.S. You should show them this comment. I watch all your videos because I wanna learn and I know that you are the elite of the elite when it comes to shallow water lakes and grass lakes
I guess I should have said why I set the hook asap. Usually when I'm throwing a frog it's around heavy cover and I don't want the fish to have time to get any deeper in the cover before I set the hook

I never wait to set the hook on my frogs! Either they have it or they don't! I mostly throw buzz style frog's in my area, they just seam to get me more bites here. But I do throw hollow frogs too. My favorite color frog is bone,I have so much confidence in that color!
I know I've really never seen a bone frog until ours but I could be wrong. It seems it should have been a no brainer in the past.
@@toddcastledinefishing5924 I've been slamming them on the teckle sprinkler frog in bone color. I swear I can fish that thing all day long cause I know the Big bass in my are love that thing! Strike King gonna come out with a frog like that? Seams everybody else is! I love Strike King's stuff got loads of it. Thanks for the reply back, that was Awesome!!
We talked about it, but I had something that I thought was better that has been put on the back burner. Makes me want to bring it back up and see if we can get it done.
Question: Is it true that he enters club tournaments for easy money?
Ive never fished a club tournament in my life even when I was young.
I'm sold
wait for the next video!!!!!!!!!
Yea I don't believe in waiting either especially as the season goes on and they get smarter. And yes the sound they make when you know he ate it 🙂🙂 he coming to the boat.
I'm glad to hear that, I was wondering if anyone else noticed it. I can honestly say I don't talk about that much and figured some guys might look at that as crazy.
awesome videos todd. love the format and content. going to try xplasma after being a long time power pro user because of your video. i live just outside san antonio and fish down at choke canyon a lot. weeds everywhere every summer. started using the popping perch kvd model that i got last year and love the design but ive caught way less fish with it than regular frogs. even when i fished it around and along cover and open water. is your design different? ive fished it along weed lines structure and cover walking spitting fast slow chuggin. not sure what gives. totally cant wait for the next episode.
Keep that lake quiet for a little longer its still flying under the radar. I get more bites on the popping perch than the pad perch or regular frog everywhere, and I mean EVERYWHERE I go. My 3rd episode might help ya.
I see you use a Palomar knot with your braided line. why does everyone keep saying not to use a Palomar knot with braid or flora line?
That the only knot to use for braid. Obviously
My next video will show how and why it was designed, and explain what your talking about I should release it Thursday.
Is there any truth that the Popping perch is being discontinued ? I'm hearing a bunch of things about this and wondering what was going on with this.
Heck no not even close.
@@toddcastledinefishing5924 Ok cool you know people talk lol. Thought maybe certain colors that was it but they where talking the whole line ups where going away. Thanks for the info
Agree........fast is good
Very good
I bought 3 and every one leaked from the eye took on water sank disappointing (good video)
Check out the next VIDEO its almost impossible to get one to sink now!!!!!
Strike King rules! I'd be interested in Texas myths versus Montana myths about frogs. Hook sets are free. Sounds like we fish Montana like you fish Texas. I concure with your lesson.
Hook sets are free I agree but I never want to swing and miss, they come back to hit a frog more than any other bait in my opinion.
Someone said I should been my hooks out once before and all I could say was… Don’t you think if the company wanted them bent out they would’ve done it for you? Don’t bend your Hooks dummies...if you don’t cut yourself you’re gonna pick up every lily pad in the pond
I'll hit on this more in the next episode for sure, but agree with you on your points.
Awesome Intel! Thank you. I’ll be standing by for more. The shad spawn color works AMAZING here in Maine! gin water + clear frog = dead frog poppin
I saw someone use or test this pop in perch when it was introduced and they smashed em can t remember who
Yea I vaguely remember that, caught about 60 on it that day. LOL
It’s more the color of bottom of the frog that matters ?
That’s why all of the pad perch, pip squeak and popping perch look the same on both sides. Except that one color.
Great videos in general but I really like this one. Makes me want to pick up a frog again. My hookup ratio stinks.
Keep sticking with it, hopefully this will help
