    When you soften, are you bending your knees or bending at the hip

      As the in the video the cue I use is soften the knees, as to produce vertical Ground Reaction Force the major contributor is knee extension so we have to achieve a degree of knee flexion first. We will get a small degree of hip flexion that is coupled with knee flexion as so the body can stay in balance.

    Seems lifting the left heel off the ground is necessary.

      Not necessary when focusing on vertical forces but can be useful with players with limited mobility. Lifting the heel has particular advantages with rotation.
