I live in northern Ontario Canada in a rural location 30 miles from any town. The only internet before I got Starlink was dial-up or hotspot through my cell tether. I have used a Gen 2 Starlink for two and a half years now and love the system, through snow and rain, there are very few outages. Compared to Ontario's other systems, there is no better than Starlink for its performance and price (158.20 CDN). Note 5 months after I stalled the system it went down. I contacted Starlink service, and they diagnosed the cable or router not working so they shipped me a new cable and router at no charge. Installed the new cable and the system started working right away (the problem was a faulty cable, not the router). They did not ask for any of the parts, so now I have a spare Gen 2 router.

Just parted ways with Century cable. Poor self I’ve had to wait 15 days without any TV for a tech to come out and tweak the system. Went to starlink. I lived in close neighbor housing area and had to pay an extra 100 to set up because I’m in wa state. Use cell RUclips TV and starlink internet and dropped my landline phone. I love all of it so far.

We live in a small town in Panama. Started with cable internet 750MB and used it for about 4 years. The problem is stability. Also if power goes out internet goes out 2 hours after. We switched to fiber 1GB.
Even worst than cable. Got a Starlink kit here for $289 Gen2 as they only sell Gen2 here. I can't describe the difference. Incredible. Not 100% but close. On average 140MB down and 15MB upload speed. Latency at about 34ms. My two sons play on their computers Warzone and me on the XBox while my wife doing video conference calls. All with minimal lag. I don't understand how Starlink is better than cable and fiber here. We'll, it work for us and this is all we are using now. 🎉 O and this is for $55/month on residential plan 🎉

I have access to wireline internet services with decent speeds and pricing overall, but like you say that 2 is 1 and 1 is none. 5G cellular is not bad, but the vulnerabilities of the interconnections between the towers is the weakness. Going through two hurricanes exactly 2 weeks apart is a good reminder that no two storms are alike. No issues with Helene, however with Milton there was no power, wireline, and/or fiber internet for almost two weeks. Cellular data was almost non-existent and the same with voice for 72 hours on all 3 of the major carriers.
Starlink worked through all of it with a total outage time of 3 minutes spread out across 12 hours and I was the only point of contact for family members outside the storm affected zone trying to contact me and others via WiFi calling. I even dusted off and activated my spare Gen2 Dishy to bring over to my parents neighborhood and setup a temporary mesh network for their block. They had no power, internet, and cell service for almost 2 weeks. It's amazing that one mile difference an area can look like nothing happened or a warzone.

1st to have StarLink in my town after waiting 4 months. Went from 12Mb DSL to my Dishie @ 300Mb in one step. Never looked back . When my Dishie was mortally wounded by a freak storm, StarLink sent me a new flat panel replacement for free. A first rate classy operation. 😊

We live in the Philippines (back and forth from California). Our fiber is awesome when it works in the Philippines. Problem is, the fiber lines are too low and trucks always run into them and the fiber can be down 3-5 days. So frustrating. I am 100% getting Starlink. I am not sure if I would get faster speeds with Orbie 970 series mesh system.
I like what you say about having a back up and bonding the two of them, problem is figuring all that out haha. Looking forward to your videos on this subject. Thank you for all you do. ~ Shawn

You make $ off the channel so offset and redundancy is key.
    I agree so much.
I hear you on the Septic too - I replaced my Grey water pump early and pressure washed the old one off and stuffed it in the new box for a backup.
When your out of Town you need Backups and redundancy over anything.

I waited 2.5 years for the first Tesla powerwall battery on maui to supplement my solar panels. The battery storage makes the big savings as selling more extra power to the grid. Plus power for the whole house during power outages. Hawaii over 30% renewable NOT due to government or electric companies but private residential rooftop solar. Power companies should pay me extra as allowing my roof with easy power access to grid vs clearing land and miles of wires.

You can get AT&T? You live in the city! AT&T signals cover about 10 miles into the country. I have land 25 miles out, where the only cell signals we can get are Verizon from the top of a mountain. The GPS will tell you where you are, then without warning it will tell you that you just moved 550 miles to the west! Mountains don't allow satellite or cell signals to function, unless a satellite hangs out directly overhead.

February will be two years with a Starlink, was on the waiting list for about three months. The only other options were centuryLink (7.5 down/ 0.5 up) which is still my back up, and another company called TWN. Had TWN for a while, but the speeds in the afternoon dropped significantly, and it was extremely susceptible to wind and rain. I was looking for something so that I could get rid of dish network, luckily Starlink has done that. If I had fiber available, I might consider discontinuing Starlink, but the price of the initial equipment would probably keep me with it because it felt like such a big investment.

I'm in the very rural mountains of NC and have had Starlink for about 4 years now, since beta. Got Spectrum fiber last year thanks to the RDOF and it worked great until Hurricane Helene destroyed the entire infrastructure. Thankfully I still had my Starlink and it has worked perfectly while Spectrum rebuilds the fiber lines. In my experience I don't think aerial fiber is going to be as reliable in rural heavily wooded areas that are susceptible to trees falling and hitting the lines.

I’ve been using Starlink since Feb. 2021. I came from Frontier where I paid $80 for 12mbps but rarely even got 4mbps actual use. So Starlink was a godsend here. But I’ve recently been contacted again from frontier in my area now confirming we finally have fiber here. So I can get 1gbps for $80 so in all honesty I’m going to go with frontier again cause 1gbps is better than my Starlink does for me but at $40 cheaper. I am absolutely grateful Starlink exists and for the last 4 years I’ve always been basically being a walking advertisement for Starlink in my area. But until the monthly eventually drops down to where they originally started at the very least hopefully even cheaper, I’m gonna have to leave it for the cheaper better deal in my area now.

Also, I have 2 Starling systems. 1 in Tennessee (Rural area) and in the Virgin Islands (came with the house I purchased). They have been working well. Tennessee has a fair amount of trees heading north. So I get a little buffering from time to time. Still better thank the AT&T Cellular. In the Virgin Islands I had a version 2 that came with the house. But i was having a problem having the previous owner transfer ownership. So Thinking a head I got a Version 3. It seems that one needs to be have almost a perfect alignment. So when I get back out there I probably will switch it back to version 2 as that system finds the network. So if I can get Fiber in either location I may switch......if the cost in beneficial.

Can't imagine how much it would cost to bury a line 2500 feet. Plus the cost per month, to get what I have now with Starlink, is more expensive. I also worry about line being in our hot desert sun.

Re: fiber + Starlink - we're on the other side of this equation. We have a reasonable 600M fiber connection here but still considering StarLink. Why? Because we still encounter periods where the local provider is down. The downside is of course the network setup is far more complex with all the failover, multiple routing, and possible dual network usage which is not a top priority for most people. But having the option is wonderful.

I’m on SpaceX/Starlink, for 2.5 years now. I also have Tmobile for backup. Since I live in sunny CA, there’s not much rain to interfere with Starlink. Now and then, with heavy thunderstorms, there is a little breakup of the signal, but Tmobile is great even in the rain. I haven’t tried bonding, since outages are very rare. Thanks for the info on Starlink and the rural situation. I’m in the suburbs, but we’ve haven’t been offered fiber here because we are in the hilly area, served only by copper cable, which has it’s problems with outages.

The word “rural” is often challenging to pronounce due to its consecutive “r” and “l” sounds. Here’s a pronunciation guide:
    • IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet): /ˈrʊr.əl/ or /ˈrɜː.rəl/ (depending on dialect).
    • General American English: “ROO-ruhl” (first syllable rhymes with “poor” or “fur,” and the second is a softer, almost schwa-like sound, as in “uh-l”).
    • British English: “ROO-ruhl” (similar pronunciation but sometimes slightly softer on the first “r”).
    To break it down:
    1. “ROO” (like in “roof” or “root,” with a clear “r” sound at the beginning).
    2. “ruhl” (a softer, almost blended ending that moves quickly from “r” to “l”).

I had fiber, but just switched to Starlink yesterday. The fiber was faster especially for uploads, but it was also down for 5 of the 10 months of this year. A 3 month outage due to a major Hurricane, along with multiple outages that each took a week or mid to get fixed.
Sometimes being reliable is just more important.

Live in rural Kentucky, ordered my starlink in October 2021, received it in September 2023, had windstream getting max 10mbs down less than 1 up . Starlink gives on an average 75mbs down and about 10mbs up, latency 50 to 60. We love as older persons we got rid of dish we stream only and can get our 4K movies in actual 4K we love it may not fast mr christina is getting but a heck of a lot better than what we had

Then I delayed until now to start the account as we were traveling. The app is not friendly for that.

I tried Starlink but there's just too much tree coverage to get anything consistent over 50mbps down. I'd have to put it on a 20ft pole on top of my roof! But for emergencies I guess I can just keep it unmounted and set it on the ground. But even though I'm rural we have Cable and Fiber. I'm about to switch to fiber since the price has come down a little and the cable internet keeps having speed issues even though they say everything looks good.

Before Starlink I had 2 10M wireless connections in a dual WAN configuration. Like you I'm rural, but cellular isn't an option. I'm too far from the nearest tower to get anything reliable. I now have Starlink and one of the 2 wireless connections that has upgraded to 250M service. Still in a dual WAN balanced configuration. I'm quite happy with my setup, and I even share some bandwidth with my neighbor.
So my question is when you say you're binding the services together, is that different from or better than my dual WAN configuration? If so, can you share some details? Love your channel, so here's an obligatory poop emoji 💩💩

We got our starlink the end of 2020 only because we are in a rural area and we can't even get the phone company to install internet. We had little choice it was live with 1 maybe 2 bars on our cellphone or satellite internet. For what the others offered. It was easy to pick starlink. We love it it does everything we need it to do and couldn't be happier

The initial transatlantic cables were laid by private investors primarily for the stock market buys and sells from Europe. Starlink has been privately invested for stock market access at faster speeds.

I'm pretty new to Starlink and only had it for about 3 weeks but it's been a total game changer since I'm living in a rural area compared to regular satellite internet. My down speeds are always super fast allowing me to stream HD video/live tv services, play online multiplayer video games, and surf the web at lightning speeds. It's just night and day difference and makes me feel like I've come from the dark ages and moved into a new age lol. I highly recommend it if you live in a rural area and have a clear sky... definitely worth it!👍
