- A look at the lost railway line between Swindon Town & Marlborough! (Midland and South Western Junction Railway)
Swindon Town station was heavily used in early years, but increasingly suffered from the concentration of traffic at the main GWR station as the focus of the town shifted away from the Old Town area to the newer parts that developed around the GWR station and the railway works there. Passenger and goods traffic on the M&SWJR fell very steeply after the Second World War and the line closed to passengers in 1961. Goods facilities were withdrawn in 1966, although freight trains conveying materials for the construction of the M4 motorway continued until 1972 when the track was abandoned. The track was lifted around 1978

Hats off gentlemen - as they say in Poland - absolutely ingenious masterpiece. And what drew my attention and what shocks me is that over 140 years passed and virtually all plots of land borders are the same. And by the way the former railway is now a perfect running or cycling route!
Fabulous.
Brilliant- thank you so much
Fabulous
Your videos are so hypnotic. What a fantastic way to document our history and what a fantastic way to educzte people.
When I was 14 and living in swindon I camped along this old line just passed chisledon, During the early hours of the morning as didn’t sleep well I herd a steam train and sounded close ,Within an hour I’d packed up my rucksack and tent and started cycling home,But got stopped by plod at the motorway junction wanting to know what a 14yr old was doing out at 4am lol
This is excellent. Well done. 👏👏👏
Just brilliant. A stretch of the railway I know well. Nostalgic, sad, poignant, part of an England that is gone for ever.
Really good video, is there one from Marlborough to Andover?
Considering all the traffic and lorries on this route now, it seems a very daft decision to close the line all those years ago.
I'll put it on the to do list!
Excellent video, thank you for sharing it.
My local line, spent a fair bit of time investigating it. Video is a really good concept 😊 and well done.
Another absorbing and informative example of this creator’s workmanship. First class as ever.

A little confusing as there is/was no station at Marlborough, there were two but called Savernake high level and low level.
There were two stations and two lines
