I recently finished this book and it contains everything, and more, that you ever wanted to know about Glenn Ford and the studio system that used to run Hollywood. Young people today don't know many of the great actors from the 40's and 50's. They don't know what they are missing.
Just watched Pt. I & 2. As much as I loved Glenn Ford as an actor, apparently, he was no great shakes as a father. In many ways, he reminds me of of Henry Fonda, who always played men with great emotional depth, but were pretty lousy fathers. Many fans simply aren't able to understand the difference between movies and reality, it seems. Under the circumstances, Peter Ford came out pretty well.
some not all have difficulty showing their true emotions but in movies well depending on character you don't have a problem with emotion ......same was said about James Dean and his father his father showed no emotion towards him at all.
Yah, I am one of those fans. Their acting is so great that to me that's them ... Damn reality. I will stick to my fantasies (especially in the time I am living in 😕😉😎
Glenn Ford is one of my fav's and I believe that his range through comedy and westerns, including life being lived are great. As to his son, you're human and your father was too. You may know some details but unless your mother bared her soul, you have no idea what really went on between them, only what you thought you saw. 16 yrs is a long time and I suspect there was a lot that was good to keep them together for so long. Also, he was devastated when they split up, a man that doesn't love his wife doesn't fall to pieces.
Glenn Ford lived along life he was one of my mom's fave actors he was very underrated ......did you know when he was first starting out he made a guest appearance on the old Dagwood and Blondie series ?
Far as I am concerned, I never saw Ford do a bad performance. Some of the crap comments below suck. Cheap shots from idiots who have no clue. The man was a terrific performer.
Well we're all entitled to our opinions. Ford was indeed popular for about 10+ years or so, but I found him to have absolutely NO charisma. He delivery was wooden, he had an extremely limited range...just seemed like an accountant that wandered onto the set.
Glen's son looks like his dad. HE loved his dad. I like Glen Ford He loved his mother very much once he sais loved her more then his life or anyone. Glen had 4 wife's 1 son. He also painted, build houses, take a car apart and put it back together, and was never bored in his life. Plus was in the Marines then went to the Navy reserves for years. Great actor and person. RIP Glen
to me, glen ford is superman's father. blowing away costner's recent role. in ransome, no contest, beats mel gibson. glen ford seemed like a rock on film and it looked real. he left some great westerns too.
When I hear a Glenn Ford movie is on , I record it to watch again if necessary. He was so believable in every roll . All though I believe was to young when he played opposite Bette Davis in the movie where she played a twin.

Glen Ford was great. Got 2 birds with one picture. Drove Frank Capra mad, unhealthy and to retirement. Ended Eleanor Powell's thriving career as per his demands. Then cheated with Hope Lange... Capra and Powell are my 2 favorite hardworking and ethical souls in Hollywood
My father could have been Glenn Ford's double, looks just like him, both younger and older versions. My dad was a nymphomaniac and was married 4 times, cheated on all his wives and was still flirting with the assistants at the nursing home when he passed at age 93. 🤭
Young, he had a restless sensitive. But older it faded and he became just another aging actor who had no life, or rather, his whole life was film. I always find it curious that the worst fathers make movies about their wonderful relationship with children while meanwhile ignoring their own children. Bing Crosby is an example. Did you know the suicide rate among children of movie stars? It hits the roof.
I stand corrected on the character issue. Thank you for pointing it out, I mean that sincerely. The rest of my comments I stand behind. My father wasn't perfect but I guarantee you I wouldn't say anything to lower his esteem in the eyes of those who held any. As far character goes, let the public watch and make their own decision. If this was only to "write" as he says he could have concentrated on "his" life but that wouldn't have sold as many books would it? Art or commercialism?
I think your father was complex, but he was human. I can't say if I was a movie star and beautiful women were willing I wouldn't have given in to temptation over and over again myself. It's clear he loved you. It's sad that alcoholism is such an insidious disease it can grab the most upstanding person. You've inherited your father's rich voice; lucky you.
quiero ver los cuatro jinetes del apocalipsis , con glen ford , pelicula ambientada en la segunda guerra mundial , del año 1962. por favor subtitulada en español!!!! gracias . beso
Peter Ford is Eleanor Powell's son with Eleanor Powell. He looks just like his father. It is sad that the two of them had such a terrible marriage. It is astonishing that he never married Rita Hayworth if he was so crazy about her. Eleanor Powell never married again after she and Glenn Ford divorced.
The son was very objective! His mother Eleanor Powell was sure a great dancer (many say one of the best of all time) but, like a lot of women (and as her son readily admits) didn't know how to keep her husband. There is always two sides to marital discord.
***** Your mind seems pretty well made up! You definitely have issues with men! But of course all women are angels. "Weak" that's a slam I hadn't heard before to describe men! Have a nice day honey!
By Peter's own admission, Eleanor wasn't much of a wife to Glenn after their son was born. He felt completely excluded. Granted, it did not give him the right to be unfaithful. But if you don't spend time with your spouse, it's not going to do much for your relationship. Ford also battled depression and alcoholism for much of his life. They were both at fault for the marriage failing, although the lion's share of it was Ford's. Also, Eleanor did not completely give up her career. She went on dancing tours, appeared in a sequence of the film of "The Duchess Of Idaho" and was on a regular television series.
“Keep” her husband? Good God; did I wake up in 1950? Why does a husband have to be “kept?” They are equal partners. Why don’t they BOTH want to stay? And there aren’t “always” two sides when one side is a serial philanderer.
He certainly looks like his he's not saying anything bad about his but his dad did not spend MUCH time with his son and GLENN FORD HAD MANY LOVE AFFAIRS THATS HIS PERSONNEL LIFE BUT HE WAS A GREAT ACTOR
It’s a little sad that he blames his mom for his father’s infidelity, it take two to tango. Glenn ultimately made the decision to cheat, maybe as his son says, he was just insatiable and that was his personality, that I can get behind, but blaming his mom for not keeping up with him is just ridiculous.
Boy he sure hid his true self in front of the camera .Not even Tallulaha could hide her self.A wild man and 143 relation did not include the possible one night stand he had.but if your a successful actor your not going to have time for that any more. You have to look for the next script and memorize lines. His son was sure honest,Thanks
Stamos has English and Irish ancestry on his mother's side. I see the resemblance more between Stamos and the young Glenn Ford, especially the eyes and the smile.
Ford had a curl in his hair as well, when it was longer. (Check out films like "The Loves Of Carmen" and "The Man From Colorado"). As for who was/is the more happy person, Ford likely suffered from bi-polar disorder, but that doesn't mean that he didn't have happy times. There are plenty of photos with him smiling.
Booggie061659 Ford had a unique acting style, and was very understated. I personally think he was a great actor, and has an enormous catalogue of fine film performances. Gilda,The Big Heat,The Sheepman, 3.10 to Yuma,Jubal.,oh the list is endless. Just have a look at the scene in the bar in 3.10,where he seduces Felicia Farr. Absolutely beautiful scene. Wooden actor? No way,Jose.
Very understated yes. Like an accountant who just wandered onto the set… The list isn't endless. He had a few hits in the '50's, (Gilda was a hit because of Hayworth) and then 30 years of misses.
Glenn Ford I loved. Personality was unique. Strong voice.
One of my very favorite actors the great Glenn Ford black board jungle movie
He made Warren Beatty look like Mr Rogers

The book is only from Peter's point of view. Might not be thr full truth.
Just watched Pt. I & 2. As much as I loved Glenn Ford as an actor, apparently, he was no great shakes as a father. Sadly, I agree. The entire world has gone crazy. I think we're witnessing the end of what America USED to be.

I met Glen Ford at Las Encinas Hospital 1980’s, I was a patient at the time, he was very nice, liked that I was young and didn’t know who he was!

Absolutely a solid performer. Unfortunately that was not the case in his marriages. There was something different about actors then
@@David-ow9bc Yeah, he cheated on all his wives, as his son admits -- 143 affairs. Disgusting human being...

Jim Rich Dude was a major poon hound.
James Henderson I’m a racist myself , no big deal !! Ford had a right to his dislikes. For a guy who couldn’t act he made a slew of great movies.

Unlike Glenn Ford, Peter Ford married once and he and his wife Lynda have been married since 1970.
One of his former wives portrayed the role of Kim Hughes on As The World Turns.

A twin, one good, one bad, are symbolic of one person who has a shadow that obscures their light.
Just got hold of a copy of this! Look forward to reading!

100 years today.
40 years ago, I saw Glenn
in an interview. He said he was a little psychic. Does anyone know anything
about that?
I’d like to read this. I thought he was wonderful.
From the clips, the career, the lothario, and the complications it created
in his life, especially at the end.
Glen Ford was great. Got 2 birds with one picture. Drove Frank Capra mad, unhealthy and to retirement. Ended Eleanor Powell's thriving career as per his demands. Then cheated with Hope Lange...

Evidently, he was never told to sit up straight and stop slouching.

there's a retired soap actor that looks like he would be Glenn Ford's twin brother their acting style is exactly the same .

I John Stamos looks like Glenn , but he does not have his range- and no studio backing from the old studio. Use to do for their stars.
Ford and Stamos do share some common ancestry - English and Irish.
Stamos has English and Irish ancestry on his mother's side. I see the resemblance more between Stamos and the young Glenn Ford, especially the eyes and the smile.

well, Glenn Ford is no John Stamos
why do i see two sets of eyebrows hmmm
I wasn't surprised this at all if he cheats on his wife i.m not surprised about his bigotry too
Glen Ford was a handsome man but a wooden stilted actor who had difficulty showing emotion on screen
I suggest you watch The Big Heat, and Blackboard Jungle. He was hardly "wooden".

He certainly could. The way he dealt with Jumbo, played by Mickey Shaunessy,in The Sheepman was testament to that.
Well, maybe not wooden, but hardly charismatic and certainly had a very narrow range. Always seemed so uptight and somewhat stiff...
Very understated yes. Like an accountant who just wandered onto the set…
The list isn't endless. He had a few hits in the '50's, (Gilda was a hit because of Hayworth) and then 30 years of misses.
shame on this man just another bitter child of an actor out to disgrace his parent because he's not around to say yes or no .........................
Shut up!
Its confirmed by their contemporaries at the time.
