Ross we had the our "Lippert Smart Jack" on our Imagine 2150RB decide to lower itself at 65MPH while we were on our 2 month trip out west last year. My wife discovered the failure when we pulled into a rest area. Goes without saying the jack was trashed beyond repair. Luckily my wife and co-pilot jumped online and found an RV Dealer 4 exits up the interstate in the direction we were headed. He even installed it for free. I gave his wife a an extra $100 bill and told her to make sure her husband/owner take themselves out for a nice dinner. By the way...is there a way to disable the the "Smart Feature"?
I don’t think so, but what I do every time I travel is pull out the inline fuse. I keep it in the pass through storage until I’m ready to unhook or hook up. I even do that with the new one. I’m just jaded at this point, probably unnecessary with the new jack but yours is not the first horror story I’ve heard. Thanks for commenting George. Pull that fuse!
Thanks for the straightforward instructions. My son stripped out the gears on our tongue jack this weekend so I need to replace it. Wanted to make sure there wasn't more to the process than I expected.
No problem, I almost felt bad making this video because it’s so easy. But I did see a lot of the videos blocking up the trailer when it’s 10 times easier to just connect the truck.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS One final word...use the hand crank to unlock the jack before you install it. I thought it was broken upon receipt because it wouldn't extend. I had to manually crank it down a bit to get it to engage.
Ross, my GD Imagine 2150RB came with that LCI jack you replaced yours with. The only word of caution I would add is on the retract, be careful as you approach the top of the worm gear. There is no limit switch and you can damage the jack if you hold retract down and hit the end of the worm gear. Draw a line with a sharpie on the shaft and visually look to know when to let off the retract button before you hit the hard limit to avoid damage
Thanks Bob! I did notice it was a little wonky at the top of the retract after I made the video and used it in real life. Will definitely use your tip on marking it. Thanks for the input and being a part of the channel Bob!
That’s when my electric jack went bad I was lifting it up or for better words retracting it and it hit the limit and then after that it quit working. Checked power to the switch when I had good power then I armed out the motor and found out the motor had burnt out
Loved the careful placement of the "OLD JACK " ..!! LOL Smart / Stupid jack failed within 2 years ... didn't know about the recall, wonder if it's worth chasing them for the replacement cost ..??? Thanks
I never used the memory feature anyway, but the deal breaker for me was the buttons and overlay. Putting the smart jack memory feature aside, I wouldnt take a new one if they offered it because of the cheap buttons... They always failed, and it did this weird thing were it would move up but not down, until you got the pry bar out and manually moved it. I hated it, and just wanted something simple so I bit the bullet. If I were you, I would tell them you want this one: amzn.to/4d4jUDC
yup, dont remember the last time someone said they loved their smart jack. they suck. thanks for watching guys and ill be checking out your channel tonight! just subbed too.
We live and travel up and down the east coast, and our trailers have always spent plenty of time in the salt air. We have a fifth wheel now, but on all our previous travel trailers, we eventually found it necessary to install a good ground wire between the trailer frame and the power jack housing to ensure a good connection. That is easier to do during the initial installation than in the rain when you find out the connection is too corroded to let the jack operate. Don't ask me how I know.

Thanks for the great video! Right to the point, practical advice, no clowning or wasting time talking about yourself. I wish all DIY videos were like this one. Slightly off topic: Does anybody make a loom-type product that cannot be chewed by rodents? They ruin a lot of my wiring. I'm thinking metal braid or kevlar. Hey, that old jack you "placed carefully to the side" ... I'd be glad to take that off your hands and build some new electronics for it. That goes for other viewers, too ... I could add new control circuits, as long as the jack is mechanically sound. Thanks again! Peace, out.
@@thunderbritches1449 yeah, they suck. I never used the memory features either because I never trusted it. That’s why I went back to a basic jack. Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed!
You just need to know your trailers tongue weight, but his will work on most trailers. what make and model trailer do you have? let me know here and ill tell you which if this jack will work. it probably will but let me know.
Why not show if the jack will lift the back o the truck with the trailer to install weight distribution bars. I guess nobody wants to disclaim what the jack is capable of lifting.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS I have to jack my truck up hooked up to the ball with th trailer at the same time and pull the chain links up 3 or 4 and connect to actually get the benefit of the weight distribution. Have you guys ever experienced this ? Or am I doing something wrong ? I was told when I bought my trailer this was the process I needed to do.
@@passingthroughthisworld8369 got ya… I was a little confused since this video is about just connecting to the truck to remove the tongue jack. But yes, The jack will lift the truck a little bit to get the sway bars on easier. It can be done without lifting the truck, I’ve done it many times, but it’s a bear to get that locking assembly around.

That was the issue we ran into. It should have an automatic cutoff when it reaches the top of the retraction to prevent a motor burnout.
Totally agree, I should release a short video explaining this.

Thanks Greg! Not sure what you could use that’s rodent proof, but interested to know if you find something.
Could turn the jack head unit to 90 degrees so you can drop tailgate.
I almost included that in this video, but just haven’t gotten time to do it yet unfortunately. Thanks for commenting Paul.
I'm pretty sure the one you put on is the one that came on my 2020. Wish I had that hand crank though.
Shayne, i see a lot of models these days going away from the smart jack and back to basics.
Great video. Had everything I needed and I completely didn’t think about just hitching my truck up to keep it propped smh lol
sometimes the easy way doesnt come easy until someone mentions it right?
Do you travel with your blinds up or down?
We’ve done both with cloth blinds but usually down. Aluminum blinds by kitchen sink I always travel with up to prevent bending.
Have this same smart jack on my 2019 toy hauler, and it died last week. Thanks for the video
