German parents are very paranoid about their kids being „lazy“ for too long and if you have German parents you will be made to go on a SPAZIERGANG 😠 a couple times a week, where you walk around the forest or park or town for an hour. Like taking your dog out for a walk but without the dog. A beach is perfect for exercise , German parents will tell you, because of the frische Luft, and then you can cool off and enjoy the water.

Just as I assume your grandmother was condoning dropping bombs on Japanese civilian cities, and then also helped make the films documenting the cooked flesh falling off the bones of the children so the US military could eagerly see the effect of their bombs. Or perhaps she was more focused on ensuring illegal immigrant children are kept in cages, or all gungho for the foreign adoption child swaps to which the adoptive parents bring their children when they tire of them. These videos crack me up!! My childhood neighbors’ mom was a German immigrant and I remember the stark contrast between the parenting styles of her and my mom. They had a pond on their property (read a magnet for children who played outdoors) and she was so vigilant about it; no kid was drowning on her watch!! As kids, we thought she was a bit extreme, but we all patiently waited for her approval before we skated on that ice. So much fun was had at the pond, much to her chagrin. 😂

Every time we went to the beach-she always made the snacks ( she made the best potato salad) and would never step foot in the water and would always say we should be running/walking on the sand for exercise rather than playing in the water and when I would say at any time of day that I was hungry she would always say 'your always hungry-go play and you won't be anymore'. I learned German in college so I could converse in German with her. Sadly, she passed away 5 years ago but she was extremely healthy and brushed her teeth after everything she ate and drank. She still had her real teeth when she died and they were in really good shape. She lived to be 92 years old and never had any health problems. She ate healthy and use to dance. She said when she lived in Germany (during Hitler's reign of terror), that the youth were encouraged to live healthy lives.

Yes and no. This is certainly a type of "German mom" that exists, but by no means a standard. Based on my experience growing up, I would associate it with families that are more on the crunchy, uptight, and likely privileged side. That one friend where you would watch no TV, get the weird tasting organic version of Nutella for breakfast, they all play an instrument, and the furniture is all solid wood.
Certain traits you'll find pretty much across the board, like bluntness, but even that can vary quite a bit in practice: tone, word choice, what they're being blunt about...
