This cookie has been my nemesis for more than 50 years. I spent YEARS trying to get them to turn out correctly, but to no avail. Our children were always disappointed because the cookies I made were either runny and never got firm or they were too hard and crumbled before I could even get them all scooped out. Honestly, I gave up on them years ago and even took the numerous recipes I had tried out of my cookbook. After watching your video, I told my wife I was going to give them ONE MORE TRY and then never make them again if I failed this time. So, 30 minutes ago, I sucked in my breath, straightened my back, determined that I would get these right, and turned on the burner. I DID IT! They turned out PERFECTLY!!! My wife has already eaten two and they are exactly the way they should be! They are my nemesis NO MORE!!! I can hardly wait for our children to arrive tomorrow for Christmas. They won't believe that I actually made these cookies. Thank you, Momma Joyce, for your recipe, your detailed instructions, and for making it look so easy. I always enjoy your videos. Now, I think I'll go make another batch.....just because I can!

My mamaw used to make these all the time! I used to stand beside her by the stove and watch her make these, as well as other things; she taught me a lot! Over the past 3-4 years, she’s gotten severe dementia and I’m her 24/7 caregiver so she doesn’t have to be put into a nursing home. I miss being able to ask her how she makes certain dishes, remember when’s, etc, so it’s so nice to watch these videos; it’s almost like being able to watch Mamaw cook again, so thank you so much for posting these. They mean more than you’ll know♥️

So happy to see you looking so well! This was my Mom's go to cookie recipe! My favorite part as a child (and still is as 61 years old!) was scraping the pan while the little bit left was still warm. If I ever over cook them and they get crumbly, I break it up over ice cream, Yum! Love to watch you cook!!

My family loves these cookies! I also make them using the same recipe but use one cup white sugar and one cup of packed brown sugar and leave out the chocolate. Also very good!!
