    Ahhhh Memories of walking behind one of them in Berlin Fighting Village in the early 80's ,in the Guards.. Smoke on full pelt breathing in that loveliness ...ha ha hope you put the Berlin red circle badges on it at the end of the resto.. great stuff as usual mate..

    Used to hate putting batteries in the Chieftain - even with the lifting bar it was an evil task. Taking old leaky ones out was always interesting!

    Mr Hewes it’s quite clear to most of your followers that while you may not be a Professional Tanker you certainly know what your doing and your very entertaining whilst doing it so when you get people telling you you are daft and know not what you do, be very English about it and tell them to bugger off and if they persist be very British about it and them to widdle off (Pee off) and to paraphrase yourself Keep up the good work.

    I was stationed in Berlin in 76/77 with 2 Para as Ferret Section Commander. These Chieftains were in Smuts barracks. My mate was there when the wall came down and he says that they were all low mileage/hours and in very good nick. He reckons that when they finally left, some Germans were crying as they were taken away.

    Has to be the Chieftain. I left the army in 1976 and we had modified mk 2, although my troop leader had the only mk 3 in the regiment. It was good to look inside the turret of the MK 5 as everything was so familiar.

    I use to be a 63H tracked vehicle repairman, doh.
    Whole time in the Storm I werked on wheeled vehicles, doh.
    Hummers all f'n day n night doh.
    Only werked on a track when we burned up some axles crossing into the north, because the TC didn't stop to grease the wheels.
    Got a great pic to prove it...
    Three US ARMY M88's all in a row in tow ahahahaha.
    Lead track pulling the recovered burnt up M88, and our broken M88, doh.
    I said used to be a repairman, it was boring AF so I went back to being a 19E40, oh yeah!

    Hydrolic oil on ME Govener only needs to be just above the plates, the actual fillier / level ( though nobody used it like you with top nut and combi tool ) is the 5/16ths nut on the side. Never run below as will cause possible ME run away.

      a Communications Repair truck that was stuck in the mud out in the traing area, at Knox.

    I bet your neighbours really love you lot! Fodens lifting power is bloody impressive in any language. I assume the other Chieftan is going to the states? You'd better not hope to have to send one to Australia, their regulations are a lot lot stronger than anyone else's regarding alien plant life into Oz. Just one seed or bit of mud found and it has to go into quarantine and there is a very hefty bill coz the vehicle has to be thoroughly cleaned again in and out. Incidentally, how much does a Chieftain cost like the one that's just arrived? Not that I'm thinking of buying one lol it wouldn't fit in my road!

    Great video. Nice to see the hydraulic starter still works.
    When adjusting the control lever on the hydraulic pump for the starter motor, was the rule of thumb 'milling, screw in' or 'milling, screw out'?
    I'll check my Chieftain precis from SEME Bordon that's in the shed 🙂.
