We continue progress on cleaning @whistlindiesel’s Tank for shipping with help from Sid @PartridgeExteriorCleaning @AdamBest1920 Also Seb Buys a new toy !
At start of week on Mon 27th May 2024 came across your site. The team really get your hands dirty in getting these vehicles up and running again. I'm looking forward to see the 180mm tank in action again. Keep it up 🤘🤘👊
Ahhhh Memories of walking behind one of them in Berlin Fighting Village in the early 80's ,in the Guards.. Smoke on full pelt breathing in that loveliness ...ha ha hope you put the Berlin red circle badges on it at the end of the resto.. great stuff as usual mate..
You guys have the best job in the world, Cheers from America! Sorry about our insanely strict cleaning requirements😂. I heard recently that Australia is also extremely strict about this stuff.
So it seems you have successfully persuaded all your friends to invest in old tanks that need restoring. A genius business plan considering what you do for a living.
Mr Hewes it’s quite clear to most of your followers that while you may not be a Professional Tanker you certainly know what your doing and your very entertaining whilst doing it so when you get people telling you you are daft and know not what you do, be very English about it and tell them to bugger off and if they persist be very British about it and them to widdle off (Pee off) and to paraphrase yourself Keep up the good work.
I was stationed in Berlin in 76/77 with 2 Para as Ferret Section Commander. These Chieftains were in Smuts barracks. My mate was there when the wall came down and he says that they were all low mileage/hours and in very good nick. He reckons that when they finally left, some Germans were crying as they were taken away.
Loving the content 👌 definitely think you lot need to do that engine swapped tank make a chieftain as good as it could ever be imagine squeeze one of them big international v8 diesels in South africans use
Hi guys, another great video from a group of guys that emjoy what ther are doing, if I ever get back tk the UK, I would very much like to visit, as they says, dreams are free, best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia.
Has to be the Chieftain. I left the army in 1976 and we had modified mk 2, although my troop leader had the only mk 3 in the regiment. It was good to look inside the turret of the MK 5 as everything was so familiar.
I use to be a 63H tracked vehicle repairman, doh. Whole time in the Storm I werked on wheeled vehicles, doh. Hummers all f'n day n night doh. Only werked on a track when we burned up some axles crossing into the north, because the TC didn't stop to grease the wheels. Got a great pic to prove it... Three US ARMY M88's all in a row in tow ahahahaha. Lead track pulling the recovered burnt up M88, and our broken M88, doh. I said used to be a repairman, it was boring AF so I went back to being a 19E40, oh yeah!
Hydrolic oil on ME Govener only needs to be just above the plates, the actual fillier / level ( though nobody used it like you with top nut and combi tool ) is the 5/16ths nut on the side. Never run below as will cause possible ME run away.
Tugged it off as soon as I gave it some pedal, just tapped it, and ripped a big brush guard and bumper off a Communications Repair truck that was stuck in the mud out in the traing area, at Knox. Feel the Power again someday. LIVLRG ppl. Why can't WD go home in a f'n helicopter? Watch my Shorts if ya wanna know, doh. Fire n Movement
I bet your neighbours really love you lot! Fodens lifting power is bloody impressive in any language. I assume the other Chieftan is going to the states? You'd better not hope to have to send one to Australia, their regulations are a lot lot stronger than anyone else's regarding alien plant life into Oz. Just one seed or bit of mud found and it has to go into quarantine and there is a very hefty bill coz the vehicle has to be thoroughly cleaned again in and out. Incidentally, how much does a Chieftain cost like the one that's just arrived? Not that I'm thinking of buying one lol it wouldn't fit in my road!
one of the things I love the English for, they are up to anything , like parking a 50 ton tank on the edge of a slope, then casually putting a small log infront, sorted.... , NEXT!! :):):)
“So….it has a leak” we’ll be fair this was a feature to keep all concerned (ie troopers) running back and forth to LAD/REME to keep them fit to see if it’s fixed while asking for a new elips and the obligatory long stands.
Just a question for you are you going to paint the new chieftain urban camo as I have never seen one ( only in films, photos ) Would love to see it but as usual that's up to the owner ( it is a Berlin one ???) Keep up with the excellent informative quality content bestest from Scotland 👋👋
If I was you Russian spy satellites might think you are a major armoured military base as you have possibly more running tanks that what our army as. Fair play great video and excellent content as always 👏 👌 👍
Great video. Nice to see the hydraulic starter still works. When adjusting the control lever on the hydraulic pump for the starter motor, was the rule of thumb 'milling, screw in' or 'milling, screw out'? I'll check my Chieftain precis from SEME Bordon that's in the shed 🙂.
Could you make a cheiftain into a Gas powered paintaball monster with main gun and machine gun replaced or addapted? I would love to see that done thw war games you could have tyhere you go a new sport real tank paintball challeng 2024
haha the claas battery, i mea it's not so out of place, tanks did come out of the claas factory during wwII was it already owned by the claas family or dit they buy it later i dont know...
I swear these vids are a remedy for depression, I don't think I've ever smiled so much as I do watching them.
The banter is great isn’t it😀
same here, university is killing me. this is a good little break.
@@PeteCourtier it's top notch old son
@@geoffrey6000 just what the doctor ordered
you have to drive on of those
Enjoyed that. So impressed how a young lad like you knows so much about these vehicles.
Joe's actually a 60 yrs old man in a 28 yr olds body..... 😂😂😂
I can only say one thing: gosh how I envy you guys tinkering with those massive beasts 👍👍👍👍!!
That sound when the Chieftan starts up.... Waow! love that sound.
It’s a mighty beast
Sorta acoustic echoey roar.

Australia is a no go for me far to much effort. 🤣 stupid rule anyway!
@@MrHewes indeed!
i think the u s forces used to have a depot in southampton uk docks for cleaning kit off before it went home.
@@MrHewesstupid rule keeps things like your foot n mouth disease out. Has done for hundreds of years…
I never get tired of that wonderful sound of the L60, it's the sound of my childhood in Germany.
Them Foden''s are handy to have sitting around. Shame they dont make em like they used to
I don't know what I did wrong in my life.... I wish I was a millionaire and could play with tanks all day... Love you channel!!! Keep them coming 👍
Do you have to be a millionare to "play" with tanks all day,
Or run a tank restoration business quite well and enjoy it?
Figures!
Joint the army?
Used to hate putting batteries in the Chieftain - even with the lifting bar it was an evil task. Taking old leaky ones out was always interesting!
So it seems you have successfully persuaded all your friends to invest in old tanks that need restoring. A genius business plan considering what you do for a living.
I loved the 'switch' on the Tipper truck.
Ain’t it mint
I used to start my Bedford CF220 the same way !

The Chieftain really is a beautiful looking tank! 😍
"How Dare You" Always good to see Plenty of Hippy tears.
Brilliant vid, I love the way that everyone joins in (by the end of the day anyway!). New arrival looks like a ‘kin lot of work, L60 sounds nice😎
i love how awesome people always got a stihl chainsaw laying around
I'm not quite as awesome mine are all McCullochs!
I didn't think the railroad ties would hold up a tank like that! Pretty solid wood.
Steam locomotives can weight up to 508 tons………
@@johnnunn8688 Fair point! I just figured they would act differently without the railing itself spreading the weight across several of them.
Wood is extremely strong lol
@@jaymac7203 that’s what she said 😂
Always a pleasure mate!!
I always get more done with you around!
Good times. A bit of superglue on the neighbours fence post and it will be good as new!
Awesome video thanks for your time and consideration top job top team 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
one click, one service counter reading, 100,000 revs of the engine
Correct
What is better than one Chieftain? TWO Chieftains of course!
I hope you are going to fit a new Union Flag to Cody's radio antenna. Needs must.

2RTR '75 to '78. Mk 5's, just getting Mk 8's. Brings back so many memories... Gonna buy a lottery ticket!

When you dont find oil all over a Chieftain engine its because it ran out of oil!

Gives me a frisson of excitement, when I see people rolling around in mud.
The wipers and the horn 🤣🤣🤦♂I presume they expected it to last longer than Sherman if they put an hour clock in it 😬🤪
Them hooks in the new chieftain just sum up the whole operation, mint!
Love those tanks, great war equipment 👍

I pulled off a front truck bumper with a single tug from the M60A3 in Ft. Knox. It was soooo funny.

please say your returning her back to berlin urban camo colours.
That is the plan il explain in next vid
They were olive and Black when i was out there in 79/82.. Think they changed the following year..
That hat is too funny lol
the regular weight of the mk10 is indeed 55 tones but since his has the stilbrew armour package it’s closer to 57.2 tonnes.
I think your the man to make a Khalid fc4030 variant that would be sweet to watch build also cost the earth

If that Tank runs away it’ll get a hell of away across the fields 😂🤣
Do you still use a jacking strut and two shovels to get the road wheels off to change the studs.
Buy some netting from army surplus & put it on the Centurion.

In case a Leyland L60 break down, is there still some knowledge/parts left to bring it back to life?
