I was surprised that Idina Menzel didn't sing a Frozen song like Let it Go or Into the Unknown. I found it MORE ironic that Idina sung an Aladdin song while Josh Gad sung a Frozen song When I'm Older from Frozen 2.
It’s really hard for her to sing the songs from Frozen. She spent several years on Broadway and it put a lot of strain on her voice. When she records the song for Frozen she has to prepare the songs for weeks and probably does separate takes. She’s still amazing and has one of the most iconic voices but singing a song like this is a lot easy to stay on pitch irl than Elsa’s songs.

I think the point is to re-make Disney’s songs with different and new voices/artists. It would be boring to hear Idina in frozen songs AGAIN.🤷🏻♀️

Maybe they're trying to give others a chance? Lea had already sang for 2 of the most iconic Disney female heroines, while most only get to do it once. Then they eventually awarded her a Disney Legend Award! I agree though. I can never get enough of Lea. She is legend, a goddess, and an icon. And I wish to God this was her singing this with Ben instead of Idina.

I agree with you, it's just that Indina has a darker tone to her voice, which is typical of a full-soprano, or mezzo-soprano if we are specific. Lea on the other hand, is more of light soprano, and even tho in the end, they are both sopranos, the tones have an impact on the song and the feeling it gives. I talk too much, sorry.

They weren’t bad by any stretch of the imagination but I don’t think this song suited ether of their voices and zoom duets are always a bit weird. They did really good but with they each sang a song that would better show off their incredible talent.

R.I.P. go to the only Genie and May Robin Williams be free. He only actor/actress that really hit him 😢. It’s like losing a family member. Aladdin was and will always be my favorite Disney movie and Robin... we love you!!! Thanks for making my childhood growing up in the 90’s the best!
These are incredible actors with the power to convey such great emotions through their vocals. Why they chose to ignore those skills in place of a riff off singing one of the most emotional disney songs ever is a mystery to me.

I agree. Ben Platt sounds great to me but poor Idina seemed to be struggling. It’s all those years of straining on her voice that did it. It’s ashamed she never did correct vocal training to help her.
Sarah Prince it’s not that she was struggling at allllll. They were not a good pair. Idina is incredible but their voices did not connect at all
@@sofienichols14 I agree. They didn’t really blend together. But Idina does have poor technique because she wasn’t taught correct vocal training. If you watch her earlier videos and compare them to her later ones you can see how much damage and strained her vocal cords in the later ones are. She can definitely sing for sure but her voice is damaged from all the years of what I call yell singing if that makes sense to you.

I'm a huge fan of both Idina and Ben, and thought they were both great on their own but the chemistry wasn't there and you could tell they were singing it separately. Idina's husband, Aaron Lohr, was in multiple Disney movies in the 90s (2 Mighty Ducks, Newsies, and the singing voice of Max in A Goofy Movie) and is an amazing singer. I really wish Idina and Aaron had done this together. Ben did such a great job on the duet with Beanie for Sondheim's birthday so I was surprised at how much this didn't work for me.

I was going through the comments and everyone is loving this performance, but I honestly don’t think that these two complement each other when they sing. This was a terrible song for Idina because she can do so much better. I just don’t understand why she didn’t sing a Frozen 2 song 🤷🏻♀️. This is probably one of the worst performances of the night, if you ask me.

I love Idina but I can't help compare this to Ms. Lea's version. IDK, The clarity and innocence on Lea Salonga's voice just made this some for me.
She didn't sing Lea's version so she wasn't expected to sound as innocent. This is the version by Peabo Bryson & Regina Belle. It's a completely different style.
