When I run, I breathe through my nose and mouth at the same time for maximum intake. I used to only breathe through the nose, but my running team coach called it out and taught me to breathe through both at the same time. It leveled up my running :) I run over 60 miles a week now, and it’s all while breathing though my mouth and nose at the same time.

If you are reading this here's my story. I am a 25 year old boy from sri lanka. mouth breathing since I am 6 years old. I have a pectus excavataum since birth and according to doctors my nasal septum has been deviated after an accident when I was 6 years old. that cuased me to breathe through my mouth for more than 20 years. I was thinking that the nose is to smell and the mouth is to breathe for this long. in 2023 may I did undergo open septorhinoplasty surgery and now I am perfectly nose breathing and having a great sleep. this video is true and I had all the bad effects of mouth breathing such as low stamina, poor posture, crocked teeth, dry mouth, less mindfulness and all. now after the surgery I am experiencing all the good effects of nose breathing and truly Im feeling like a newborn. I am eagerly waiting to see my transformation day by day

I'm super allergic to dust, it completely stuffs me up and makes breathing through my nose impossible. Once I started cleaning the fans/air condioners in my house more it made such a difference on my life. I hear what you're getting at. I've seen lots of people who have tried this stuff and exasperated their issues. This stuff sounds easy, we take much for granted but we're basically driving vehicles around that we've never had proper training to operate. There's not even a user's manual. There can be so many different causational factors for what appears to be the same issue. Our bodies have very limited ways of expressing distress so there is much overlap. Probably why so many things are so hard to cure... too many different things being labelled the same because of similar symptoms and no accurate means of testing or defining. As for our experts, I've witnessed cardiologists being ignorant of not only the fact the medication they prescribed causes specific critical nutrient imbalance but also had no idea of our main dietary source of that same thing. Or worse, our head of health couldn't even define what a woman was, or a man.

a lot of this is very true, breathing through your mouth does activate your parasympathetic nervous system, as someone who have a phobia i can tell you for a fact that when the body goes into fight or flight response you will start to hyperventilate.
however hyperventilating is also being not really explained that well, your lungs do need some of the CO2 and when you hyperventilate your pushing out too much of it because your body is in survival mode it will trigger a response to use your body to the max, like sprinting for your life or something similar that require a lot of air to your muscles quickly, but if that's not happening you might get trapped in a state of hyperventilating because it feels like you can't breathe and that's because you're low on CO2 so your fooling yourself into trying to breathe more than you need to.
this is why you will see people who are hyperventilating breathe into a bag because they will rebreathe the CO2 down into our lungs again which might dissipate the feeling of not being able to breathe, this is also why you will hear about trying to breathe slowly or taking deep breathes to calm down.
now i don't know in which end you've started to breathe with your mouth over your nose because it can be that you're just anxious and your body will automatically do that, however you might also be feeling more anxious just because you're breathing with your mouth starting a vicious cycle.
but yes if you breathe with your nose you will breathe more deeply that activates the diaphragm which keeps you calm and collected and you do get enough air breathing through your nose in most activities.
but i suspect there's more to this than just "breathe with your nose" because it's something we do innately, the reason we don't is more complex, it can be poor diet, poor excercise, poor nose function, poor posture etc.
in some cases it's a bit like the chicken or the egg, sometimes it's because something else is not right with you that you do breathe with your mouth instead.
so i would recommend walking or any low effort activity where you're moving your body and trying to integrate this nose breathing as best as you can to get used to it.
and yes you can breathe too much to where you feel you don't get enough air, it's stupid like that.

I know of 3 types of breathing while doing cardio. Once in trough the nose out trough mouth when in lower zone cardio, usually my 5k pace. Twice in trough the nose once out trough mouth in middle zone, maybe 800m. Max air intake trough mouth mostly but also nose in highest cardio/sprinting up to 400m ending up far above max heart rate for my age. Some elite athletes sprint 100m in just one breath.

literally been doing this since i was a very lil kid. Im glad that there were people who pointed out certain things to me in life. One thing that I realize just now. Sometimes I do breath through both my nose and mouth as well when running, but I tend to push my jaw forwards while doing this. I just felt that it made me breathe easier. Now that I see it being explained in the video, it all makes sense. We should listen to our body and instincts more often

    • @ragon39
      @ragon39 6 месяцев назад

dude.... ffs don't fall for this shit. You should be breathing out of both your nose and mouth when running. Your breath originates in your diaphragm not your nose or mouth. What does this mean? 95% of what is in this video is misrepresented information or blatantly wrong. I am positive that this made does draw breath from his nose or mouth but rather his ass as this is the only was he could be so full of shit.
      1. Think of lungs as a balloon. It doesn't matter what you use to fill it. It will be filled. A health person barely needs to draw breath to maintain 97-100% blood oxygenation and your body sure as hell does not care whether that came from your nose or mouth.
      2. Now think of using your lungs to blow up a balloon. Are you going to use your nose? I sure hope not. Why would you use your mouth then? Because you can expel your lungs faster and with more force. Nose breathing is for low volume filtration breathing. Mouth breathing is for high volume breathing when you need more oxygen quickly like when your are preforming high exertion exercises like running. You should be using both your nose and mouth for these.
      3. Breathing does not affect posture. Posture affects breathing. If you are hunched over it is harder to breath. Does not matter whether you are breathing through your mouth or nose because.... get this.... You are fucking hunched over. How are you going to get a deep breath in?. You posture is affected by large muscles in your back and core. You will breath better with better posture. You will not fix bad posture by breathing through your nose. You have to actually build the muscles responsible for good posture.

I practiced a martial art called kendo and due to an armor one has to wear later I forced myself to learn how to use my nose only it surprisingly helped my body to feel less hot inside it and I would endure more time in it now when I workout I try to inhale with the nose and exhale with my mouth specially abdomen excersises.

Breathing through your nose is usually better because it filters and adds moisture to the air, helps you get more oxygen, and keeps your tongue and jaw in a good position. Breathing through your mouth can lead to a dry mouth, higher risk of infections, and dental problems. Remember, everyone is different.

      1. You breath through your diaphragm. Nose and mouth are tubes like a hose. Both get it there and the dipshit who made this video grossly exaggerates its impact on blood oxygen levels.
      2. Posture affects breathing. If you a hunched over it will be harder to draw breath. Breathing through your nose has no significant impact on posture.
      3. Nose breathing exercises can be used to balance mood
      4. Nose breathing should be done with low exertion movements because nose hairs and mucus help filter debris and the passage way helps balance air temperatures and humidity when bringing air to your lungs.
      5. Mouth breathing should be included during high exertion activities such as running. This is natural to do because your body already knows to do it. Babies know how to breath. It is instinctual. Really does not require an eight minute video with a man doodling. Not insulting you insulted the man who spent time on a eight minute video of himself drawing only to get all of the information in it wrong.
AGAIN BREATHING THROUGH YOU NOSE WILL NOT IMPACT POSTURE. Breathing does NOT affect posture. Posture affects breathing. Breathing through your nose WILL NOT fix bad posture. Posture is dictated by large muscles in both your back and core. Bad posture is cause by weakening of these larger muscles by either atrophy from lack of target exercises{that does not include the act of simply breathing) or atrophy based on poor positioning of the body when in or out of motion. Again not relevant to breathing.

Yea my PE teacher thought us that as well when explaining aerobics/anaerobics, basically breathing in through your nose for as long as you can while breathing out through your mouth helps increase stamina and its definitely noticeable in my experience, I did it while cycling for three weeks very intensively and got from taking 1 hour for 20km to 45 mins. Though training anaerobic is also a lot of fun because you literally feel invincible for a short time.

I've seen it work in real life. It's still debated in scientific circles with some supporting evidence and some not. Best thing you can do is try it for yourself and see if it's legit, it definitely has caused changes in me and some of the people around me who have tried it. Either way I wouldn't trust wikipedia, it's become quite possibly the worst source of legitimate information in recent years.

I'm saying this before watching the whole video.
When I was younger, I was often sick. Because of the sickness, my nose was almost always clogged. So I mouth-breathed so I won't suffocate. When the pandemic started, and we had to wear a mask, I hated how the fabric got sucked in when I breathed in. So I had to learn to nose-breathe. Though I return to mouth-breathing if I lose my focus
I also have to "burn" the glands in my nasal cavity, it creates more mucus than it's supposed to. This and the un-deviation of my septum were canceled because of the pandemic
