    I love the linguistic refinements you apply to describe technical terms such as when oversaturating in the colour booster tool it becomes "freaking La La Land" . Your enthusiasm is infectious !

      Thanks. Technical terms are important. But we can relate better with our "daily Language".

    This is the best tutorial I have encountered. Cudos! Being an old timer coming from film photography, I was totally alienated with all the processing tools. In fact, I just shoot in jpg and save the results. This tutorial has helped me a lot to understand the use and benefit of processing the photos after the shooting.

    My friend I have been a Nikon shooter all my life... I am 65 today, so, I have been Nikon since my grandpa' gave me a Nikon FG in 1984 when I graduated from University in PR. By the way, that camera and lenses still with me today and still shooting my film from time to time... But also have a D500, D750 and Z50 with all the necessary lenses for each camera.... and in all these years I have used NX Studio only few times, I use Photoshop almost all the time, lately I purchase Affinity Pro, but thanks to your video, I have come back to the NX Studio and updated to the latest version.... I have been using it much more now and have to THANK YOU FRIEND....

    I never usually comment on videos like this but I just had to tell you how helpful this video was. Not only going through all the functions and tools of the software but really demonstrating on how the tools can be used. Also your constant admonition to be "subtle" with your changes is the best advice to those new to photo editing. Again very well done and you have earned yourself a new subscriber but I have to now because I want to fire up my NX Studio and start playing.

    Your review is spot on. The other reviewers just gloss over NX Studio and point out the negatives. They also stumble over the tools meaning they never really learned to use this software. Most of all they totally overlooked the value of Picture Controls feature. Other expensive software that you mentioned, strips away the Picture Control settings and you literally have to process your photo from scratch. A real pain. Thank you for a truly honest review.

      Most "Well-known" RUclipsrs don't praise free and good photo editing softwares. Because, they are free.
      Free = No Commission.
      The Picture Control is revolutionary. Its crazy that it's free. Nik Collection and DXO Photolab offers the exact same thing for a premium price.
      Thank you kindly for your complements. 🙏🏽

    Absolute great tutorial !!!! Best in the net right now. Lightroom 6.14 has quited on my MAC no download possible for my purchased download licence and so I will never touch Adobe again even if I have to retag 20+k photos now.
    Guess Nikon really tries to gain market share with this software freebe - great.
    One question I have for the expert: How can I filter on ALL photos of a directory including all sub directiries? (like hitting "All photos" first in Lightroom and then set the filters)
    Thanks man. I have subscribed certainly.

    • @Light_Camera_Story
      @Light_Camera_Story  3 года назад

      First of all, thank you for your kind comments and Subscribe.
      Not just nikon, many camera manufacturers are moving towards different direction. For example, Fujifilm was the first camera company that moved to cosmetics and pharmaceutical industry during the end of the era of Kodak vs Fujifilm.
      Nikon is also pushing its Optics business for Reading glasses, like Zeiss. Olympus is already dominating medical microscope business, Pentax is trying to change as well.
      So, it's not Surprising that Nikon is trying to be like Blackmagic. Offer high end software for free to grab hardware business.
      About filtering questions,
      I tell you what I do, and take what you can from it. Now, I am old school. I have folders made with Year. Then Month. Then Event or Location. Then each image are renamed with Location or Event + Y-M-Day.
      Most are done my myself.
      I also use Photo ExpressViewer software for batch renaming. Then i edit.
      Let me know if it helps.
      As you can see, I am old school.

    • @martinmuehlhoff4404
      @martinmuehlhoff4404 3 года назад +1

      @@Light_Camera_Story Thx Treasure, am old school too.
      Yes I am also organizing in folders just to be on the save side. But I would like to use the stars and color labels in NX Studio - and therefore would like to filter across a folder AND all including its sub-folders in NX Studio. In LR you choose "all photos" and then set your filters and then get the filtered photos for all folders and sub-folders all together. And I like that.
      My work around now: In MAC finder I create and store search folders which look for different file formats and abbreviations I include in the photo`s name.
      NX View offers a great filtering tool too (not mentioned in your video) when you hit the filter and then the little triangle under the index view bottom. So there is that great tool but you have to apply it to each folder separately? Tough to believe, I think...
      Have a nice weekend!
      BTW: I saw you traveled Europe B&W. Wonderful. Guess I will find a couple of good photo spot ideas there. Am from Cologne and so in close distance.

      It was a risky decision. But I am grateful that people like you, are leaving lovely feedback.

    Is there a way to apply LCH on part of the rose, not the entire rose? for example just to reduce lightness on side of the rose.

    does the color control point do the same thing as LCH? the only different is that with the control point you can affect a certain point, not the whole image?

    • @Light_Camera_Story
      @Light_Camera_Story  3 года назад +1

      Exactly my friend. But, LCH is excellent. you can see what are you doing. Because, in LCH you have a colour graph.
      You see, local adjustments is great. I agree. But if you already have a good looking image, then a simple global approach is quicker and efficient. 😊

    I wish I could use this Nikon Studio software. I like everything about it, especially now that I have the Nikon Z9. Unfortunately the software is champ in crashing all the time on my Mac OS Monterey. I can’t accomplish anything using it. I am forced to pay and use Capture one 23 Pro which is the only one capable of reading Z9’s NEF files. Can’t seem to understand why Nikon Studio crashes all the time…

      Hi Grant, Thank you for your suggestion and kind compliment. It is a very good question and I am genuinely surprised that I didn't think of it. I actually have a habit of working on individual images. And normally I only edit 3-5 pictures at a time.
      My suggestion, when you want to apply same WB values in all the photos for example. Save the value in WB section inside the scroll down menu.
      Then select the other photos and then select the WB from the preset menu. This should help you.
      Let me know please it that works. Good luck. 😊

    I love your tutorial. Watched it 3 or 4 times. But I'm having a problem. I shoot Nikon and save a subset of photos taken in jpeg format into a sub folder of the main one. I edit the photos in this subset folder; primarily cropping and levels and tone curves. When I open the folder in Microsoft file manager it appears none of my edits were saved.
    I read somewhere that edits are saved in a 'sidecar' and this is what the '.nkse' folder is. What do I need to do to edit my photos, save them in jpeg so that I can upload them to my website and Instagram?

    hello, how can we import a mp4 60fps 1/125sec from z6ii and export it as 25fps to make a slow motion ?

    • @Light_Camera_Story
      @Light_Camera_Story  3 года назад +1

      I had another fellow Nikon NX User who told me that you can. I have not tested myself. So I personally at this point can not verify that.
      If you want something that is free of cost and professional quality, I personally recommend Davinci Resolve. Which I use for video specific works.
      I have although tried Time-lapse in Nikon NX. Which works perfectly.

      thank you !!! i didn't know this soft. how can i import a 60fps 1/125sec in davinci, cut start and end too long and export to a 25fps to make a slow motion. quick and dirty, without creating huge project,... i ask that way because i generally come from holidays with 20 clips totally independant and, as i would retouch with NX-D or lightroom i want to process these 20 clips in a very fast way, not making a film with 20 sequences, adding effects, luts, sounds,...

      This software is actually used by pros but anyone can use it. Here is a quick tutorial that I followed when I first started. Good news about this software, just like Premier Pro, there are thousands of tutorials in almost any language. And free. It takes only couple of hours of practice and this video to learn it. Ps. Hi, nice content thank you. Liked and subscribed. About local editing, is there any tool similar to the luma masking available in Lightroom?

    • @Light_Camera_Story
      @Light_Camera_Story  3 года назад +1

      Very kind of you.
      It does have Luma Masking like Nik Collection and DXO PhotoLab 4. Which is extremely good. And more than enough. You just have to put the point on an area. Then resize based on your needs and click to look at your mask area.
      You have a wonderful day.

    • @Light_Camera_Story
      @Light_Camera_Story  3 года назад

      Well, put it another way. Nikon NX studio will give you best image quality for Nikon nef files.
      Not Lightroom. Because, Nikon will treat their own raw like a family. Of course.
      With the other functions, it makes NX Studio, pretty damm superior.
      Now, Lightroom's Masking is not available in NX. I personally use GIMP and Affinity Photo for any other serious retouching.😊

      @@Light_Camera_Story yes I am tempted to give a go to NX studio because of the IQ it can ensure with NEF files. For local editing, stacking, stitching/merging or HDR I may use Photoshop/Camera RAW

      @@ilmatanela1816,
      That's a brilliant idea. I am a minimal guy. So, I spend less time editing and more times Capturing and Publishing.
      So, cameras Native Raw Editors are the best for me.
      For instance, For my work Fuji and Panasonic camera I use silkypix.
      For my wife's canon, she uses Canon DPP.
      For Nikon, NX studio. With a combo of Affinity Photo.
      For cataloging, I play Old School : Folder > Sub folders > Sub Folders. Then i rename Raws and Folder with event, Time and Years.
      It allows me to not have to pay rent for Adobe Kingdom (Although, Adobe is excellent).
      😊

    Once I have made my basic adjustments, how do I move the adjusted file over to PS Elements for other adjustments? I tried saving it as a JPG file under a different name, then exported it to PS Elements. I got the original file in PSElements with the adjustments reverted back to original.
