I can only go on the sound you were able to show us, but to me I think the shell would serve better in a deeper drum!
I agree and I would love to get the 14x8 but not at 5k.
What a beautiful drum...🙂👌 loved the high tuning
It’s crazy how this drum sounds, I really should revisit it again.
Awesome to hear one. Love the channel. The drum sounds like crap if you ask me. Just off the top of my head the Erskine on this channel sounds 10 times better.
It’s not the best to be honest.....it sound insane at higher tunings but it’s a collectors drum in my opinion.

Dude, You talk shit on every one of his Videos.
Stop Dreaming and following this Dude around.
Go Play your Pearl Jr. Roadshow Kit.
You need to angle the snare if using a traditional grip otherwise you might get hurt
Not sure about this.
@@IAMDRUMMER snare position is to low if using a traditional grip in perspective and the stick is not touching the rim. Anyway great playing and love all your video. Subscribed
Well it's all relative as being drummers each one of us is different so we play with little nuances that develop over time as well as how we are taught and who influences us. If you look at players now and overtime of players like Todd Sucherman, Jojo Mayer, Vinnie Colaiuta, Dave Weckl, Steve Gadd, Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa and so on have changed their heights, angles of all parts of their kit. If you look at Mike Bordin's kit his tom's are big, high and flat and he sits low in comparison, it's what he likes and what he feels comfortable with.
Since this video was taken I sit a little higher and my snare is also a little higher because my playing style has changed a little, over 34 years I have never suffered from RSI, carpel tunnel or any injury from playing drums especially playing trad grip. The rim shots you hear when played are rim shots and I can assure you I was doing them.
@@IAMDRUMMER great man, just bought a Yamaha SD-493 after watched your review. I have took lesson with Dave's few years ago he's great player very insightful and inspiring. Please subscribe my new youtube channel too.
I like the low tuning the most actually.
I would love to hear the 6,5 and the 8'' deep models.
That made this and the 8”deep, I’ve been looking for one of those for a while but those are just as rare.
They made the 6,5 in the limited centennial run with the 3,5 run too in gold.
thing is shaaarp!
It is, it sounds great but it really is more of a collectors piece.
High tuning ❤️ just seemed to come alive when cranked up
Agreed, freaking loud.
I was worried I might break a lug at those tensions.
Wow. I think people don't really appreciate how fat, airy but yet so strong the sound this snare able to produce, it's unbelievable.. so wide and sharp! I'm completely stoked.
What's the weight of this magnificent drum?
It weighs a bit but more so the hardware but even the shell naked isn’t light then again it’s older carbon so that could be it.
This is interesting. This was definitely made to be a collectors piece and probably not meant to be played much. It has a sound that really only works in very specific situations (which aren't that much anyways). First snare that I kind of don't like as much. Tuned high its at its best, but still, just odd. But what I do like is that hair.
I really do need a haircut, I am long overdue.
I AM DRUMMER Nah I’d keep it. Keeps you looking “hip”. Oh wait, do you really want to look “hip”? 😂
@@MatthewParsonsDrumsAndAudio Is hip a older persons saying now or do you mean "hip replacement" as you know I am getting on a little.
@@IAMDRUMMER Uhhh, it could probably go either way XD
Its a really nice drum, aesthetically speaking, but there have been plenty of others on your channel that have sounded better to my ears for most likely half the cost. Still an awesome drum
Agreed, it’s the collectibility that demands the price.
It sounds synthetic..... which good be a GOOD thing????
Well I guess it is synthetic and I am actually willing to part with it.
sounds like ...beatin' a leather jacket
Is that dare to hit a leather jacket....
Kangaroo skin drumheads?
Oh it’s coming, the intro might get some people angry though.
