- He’s not named Larry, he’s never been a cable guy, and he’s not even from the south, but Daniel Whitney has found a lot of success with his Larry the Cable Guy character over the years. At the height of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour’s fame, he even got to star in movies like Witless Protection and Delta Farce, but we haven’t been hearing as much from Larry the Cable Guy in recent years.

Semi-interesting fact: I used to work at a golf course in Rice Lake, Wisconsin that Larry the Cable Guy would frequent during the summer (his wife's family is from that area and he has a summer home nearby).
Nice guy. Tips very well. Super friendly with kids.
Oh, and his southern accent is fake. Don't know why it surprised me so much, but he sounds nothing like his "stage voice" during a casual conversation.

When Larry came to our town on tour me and the family went to see him.....it was worth every penny. My face hurt by the time it was over. I never laughed so hard non stop as he went thru his show. His jokes arnt for everyone, but I would say most.
Larry the cable guy is the only comedian who tells jokes that are very funny without resorting to profanity and rudeness . When you can do that and still have the audience going you're a boss
Check out comedian Brian Regan. He works super clean, but you'll pee yourself laughing.

All these comments are just bashing the guy, when I was a kid he was rising up and was quite funny back then. He is a wonderful guy who give up tons of money and he has a really big heart. Stop giving the guy such a hard time.

I argee, watching this little history lesson on him honestly makes me respect him a lot more than a lot of other people in Hollywood. It's just a shame he is not funny. All the guy does is poop jokes with a fake southern accent.

I've been wondering about him, why he wasn't as visible as he was years ago. I always thought he was funny, but admittedly got tired of seeing so much of him. Knowing what he's been up to makes me happy to know he hasn't just disappeared completely, that he's been doing worthwhile charity work, and good for him for all his business endeavors. All the best to Larry and his family.
Met him while filming Witless Protection and I have to say he is one of the most down to earth guys I know. Love you Danny and thanks for the memories you gave us in our small town.

As a former health inspector, you can imagine how happy I was to see Larry the Cable Guy in a movie as a health inspector.
You could of probably gave him some interesting stories for his comedy I am sure. That movie was very funny too.

His daughter went to my elementary-high school for a couple years and he donated a couple mil $ there too.

Charity doesn't mean sending your money halfway around the world to people you'll never meet and don't even look like you! There a plenty of other millionaires out there who can donate to " schools that really need it". They usually support the ones THEIR kids go to!

What are you talking about? His comedy specials are nothing but jokes at the expense of lower class southern white people.
He invented the character of "Larry the cable guy" so that he would be able to make jokes about a group of people without being ostracized for it.
His standup is analogous to a white man in black face making self deprecating racist jokes about black people.
You should check out some of his stand up from before he created the character.
ok first off you don't need to make up a character to make fun of southern white people as it's sadly the only group that it is socially acceptable to make fun of and as far as your analogy it doesn't really make since as he is actually white he isn't pretending to be white so it would be way more accurate to say that his jokes are analogous to a black man poking fun at poverty stricken black people but even that isn't completely accurate as his jokes are more about things they can relate to than poking fun at them
You have to dress up as southern white people to make self deprecating about southern white people of which are meant to appeal to southern white people.
He couldn't stand on stage dressed in his normal clothes, speaking with his normal accent, and still appeal to the same audience. That's why my comparison was valid.
I suppose your example of a black man making fun of poor black people would be a better one, but only if the man making the jokes was actually wealthy but was lying about being poor to get away with making the cheap jokes, and again only if the audience was poor black people.
"Larry the cable guy" is so objectionable because he's pretending to be a part of what he's making fun of so that the audience can empathize and relate with him, but really he's a rich white guy from nebraska that doesn't have a southern accent.
His comedy undeniably preys on stupid southern white people.
Would you enjoy his comedy if he told the same jokes but from the point of view of himself instead of the character?

Funniest thing I saw him do was when he was riding with the AK State Troopers he gave a guy they pulled over $100, went back to the cop car and told the Trooper he "gave him a hundred bucks for weed".
I've never been the biggest fan of his style of comedy but man... Now I am a very big fan of his selflessness and generosity. What an amazing human being, we need more people on this earth like him!

I thought he had just faded away into comedian history. If this man is doing this much charitable work out of the public's eye then he should be recognized for his achievements!
Why is it that only bad behavior gets recognition? I had no idea that Larry was involved in all of these good works. I always enjoyed his comedic performances, but now am sad that he goes on with these wonderful accomplishments without the recognition he deserves. I wish i could shake his hand and thank him, he does a lot to help veterans here in Nebraska and helped send ww2 vets on a trip to dc when the ww2 memorial was opened and my grandfather was able to go in one of the groups. Its was one of his last fond memories of his life and meant a lot to him and us. The trips are still going and soon for Korean vets and then Vietnam so bless him, his family and the great organizations he puts his resources into.
I can't wait to see him at my hometown fair this year!!

The original deal with chips was with Barrel O Fun but they got bought out by Scheres. It was fun having Larry the Cable Guy coming up to the Barrel plant in Perham, Mn. He was funny has hell.
