    With a lot of the new units and abilities, Blizzard seem to be moving a bit closer to Brood War, a proven eSports game, while still keeping it fresh. I'm looking forward to this expansion!

      S. M. Price It's true anyone that has played Brood War knows it's based around bad mechanics which make the game hard to play, not advanced mechanics that make it interesting.

      Guys im new to starcraft can some of you tell me your oppinion about Battlecruisers jumping all over the map without vision,from my view that's kinda too strong and i would probably have no idea how to deal with them(btw i like to play Zerg the most so tips would be nice)

      Djordje Bojovic I think static defense will be the only option to prevent harrassing. On the other side it'll need much time for the terran to get many BC's, you should control him with some anti-air. I don't have a clue what is gonna be the best option, but the Viper seems to be interesting for it.
      Finally it is gonna change a lot in the Beta I suppose ^^ it is not definetely clear, how good they really will be.

    Great changes! These are my ideas and concerns:
    *Terran*
    • The Hellbat should be granted the grab ability of the - now removed - HERC for more micro potential.
    • When attack-moving, Medivacs should not fly past your damaged army, just because they have no energy left.
    • The Viking should be faster at changing between ground/air mode, for more micro-potential.
    • Also, Vikings and Corruptors should deal more armored air damage and less light air damage to compensate for the new abilities of the Carrier and Battlecruiser.
    *Zerg*
    • Banelings should cost a bit more and be a bit stronger. This will make every baneling count even more, so instead of just attack-moving against a Zergling/Baneling army, you want to target the few banelings first.
    • Nydus Networks should not be invincible, but get +3 armor, which will make worker attacks less effective.
    • Just as you have removed the upgrade for Siege Mode, upgrades like Tunneling Claws should not need to be purchased. This will give more micro-potential.
    *Protoss*
    • Regarding the Disruptor, it is currently too hard to counter, since it is faster than the units fleeing from it. Its movement speed should only be high when not in range of enemy units. This means that it can be countered by sending one unit to it, while sending the other units away from it.
    • Perhaps the Disruptor should not even be a unit of its own. Like the Scarab was a unit of the Reaver, the Disruptor could be a unit of the Adept, which of course would require a late game upgrade. This would also make the Adept more viable in the late game.
    • The Mothership, which rarely is used, should have an ability to resture shield and energy of the targeted unit.
    *General*
    • Not just to give the game a larger element of micro, but also to encourage players to take on many small skirmishes instead of few game-ending battles, some units should get an auto-casted ability with a low cooldown, just like the Warhound had. For example the Colossus damage could be reduced a bit, while giving it one attack with double damage every 6th second.
    • A very small thing that would encourage players to use stutter step micro more frequently, would be to increase the general turn-speed and acceleration of units, while air units should "glide" more, allowing the utilization of "the moving shot".
    • Since the armor upgrade only reduces 1 damage from incomming attacks, and weapon upgrades often increase the outgoing damage by more than 1, the armor upgrades should cost less than the damage upgrades.
    • That being said, the fact that units like Zerglings gain +20% attack damage from each damage upgrade, while units like Ultralisks only get +8.57% attack damage from each upgrade, should be reconsidered.
    • Generelly, I think that units die too fast and battles are over too fast. If you are a top platinium player like me (or below that), looking away from your army for a few seconds may cost you the game. Longer lasting battles will also extend the most exciting parts of the game.
    • Regarding the player colors, there should be an option to choose your own color in other games than custom games. Since many people might not want to choose their colors for each and every game, there should be an option in the options menu, where your top 8 colors for each race should be chosen.
    • Last but not least, I miss the art-style and mood of Brood War. The colors of SC2 are too grey, and should have a much higher contrast (not only in terms of "color", as in red, green, blue etc., but also in terms of "contrast" as in black and white). Viewing other comments from your fanbase, I can conlude that I am far from the only one with this stance.

      Lea Jesus I rarely play as Zerg, so to me it makes more sense to write from a perspective, where Zerg is the opponent, rather than where Zerg is the race being played as.

    I think that Blizzard has 2 entirely different teams, developing Starcraft 2.
    First one creates new units and abilities, but doesn't play Starcraft at all.
    Second one plays Starcraft, but is reeeeeally slow and is going to fix them 3-6 month later the broken units released.
    I hope no one doubts that they are a little bit unbalanced now... And it's already BETA

      Right, because OBVIOUSLY they are slacking off and not taking their job seriously, it's not like they work hard for hours a day and possibly losing sleep in the night and are very passionate about it, we players who are being jack@#%es about it clearly are the people who know what they're doing.

      Alex Redstone are you stupid? Beta is exactly where you go and start balancing stuff. Sure there is bugfixing and stuff but most of that happens in the Alpha. Not only that but it is hard to balance internally because other players especially pros still find imba stuff that the developers who are obviously not on the same level as the pros cannot find.

    Well if you're looking for a new Terran Unit, I wouldn't mind seeing the Warhound make a come back. Perhaps bring Goliath's into multiplayer.

      That, too. Reaper has absolutely no role beyond the 5 min mark. It's pathetic and doesn't fit the Starcraft philosophy (all units being viable throughout the whole game).

      Goliaths are vikings.
      The entire point of the viking is to force you to choose what you want to use your goliath for at any given time instead of being able to do both ground and air.

    As a protoss im not as excited for their changes when i see sige tanks being picked up, BCs teleporting, and zerg obliterating air.

    Micro, micro and even more micro... I mean it's great to watch pro players playing against eachother, but I feel like for casual/below diamond players this only brings even more frustration to deal with.

      I agree, that is the #1 reason I stopped playing this game. What they need is an "easy" mode where everything is automatic and leave the micro to the pro players.

      Kiss Adam Regardless of what you think StarCraft was originally an extremely micro intensive game, especially in it's most successful iteration Brood War with Jaedong on the scene.
      Also, micro isn't just "clicking the mouse faster", you need insane amounts of hand-eye coordination, you may not like it and there is nothing wrong with that, StarCraft has always been one of the harder games to get into.

      In the lore dark archons are only used in absolutely dire, almost last resort situations, and if amon is here to destroy the universe then i think that should count

      Aaron Beaulieu And they probably will. But if you'll notice, in WoL and HotS, you NEVER fight dark templar. No reason then to have dark archons.

      In lore if dark templars become dark archons they will die because of their dark psionic powers which is unstable unlike high templars who become regular Archons are stable psionics.To escape that faith the high templars taught the dark templars to channel ther control their psionic powers to become regular Archons to avoid being killed.

      evans387 SC2 is hoping to add more "excitement" and they think that is done by more "OOOOH" moments where a few units just decimate an entire army and turn the tides yet I'm sure there is not many things more frustrating for a player that has been winning all game for example, to have it all undone because of a sucker punch by the other player. Its like the power rangers mentality. Lose lose lose, TRANSFORM, WIN.

      Andre Nowaczek Both wrong. In Starcraft 1 was a mode called Team Melee, where up to 4 players could play as one player. So Archon mode is not a new idea, it is an old idea reduced to 2 players.

    I find the warping anywhere on the map with a battle cruise anywhere on the map a very very good thing. It makes BC"s more viable, and because they are so expensive and takes a while to punch out in terms of tech-tree, it can be used for late-game surround trapping, instant reinforcements, or a risky late game scout into the enemy bases.
    It can also be used to catch up to the MCores mass recall. The protoss player who was losing is now going to think if he wants to fight to the death, or face battle cruisers back at home late game.
    Against zerg, the BC can be used as a mid-late game harass or distraction, man so many options now for terran I love it.

    Corruptor still boring, but could be a kamikaze unit. That caustic spray is seriously boring. Just biological Void Ray from WoL.
    Nydus Worm better recieve armor upgrades rather than being invulnerable. Nydus is a tricky feature, that is between being useless and VERY OP. Better make Nydus recieve every zerg armor upgrade, so late game Nydus will have +3 armor, granting him some immunity against workers,
    Sadly you did NOTHING to Overlord Drop feature. Why not allow upgrade each overlord for 25 gas? Or make it so Overseer will also have a cargo.
    And whats 3rd ability for Infestor?
    What you also did with Terran Ghost? Why he is not viable in TvZ?
    Why reapers are only viable early game?
    Why terrans still can't build tech/reactor addons on the left side?
    Why you can't just rework/update/add new mid game upgrade for Reaper, making them like a new unit mid and late game? WHY YOU NEED ANOTHER USELESS TERRAN INFANTRY UNIT if there are two already semi-useless - reaper and ghost? Ghost seen only in TvZ, Reaper only early game...

    Bring back arbitars for protoss those were sick and created nice suspense in large battles, and then allow Terran Nukes to be stronger ( as they were back in starcraft 1) and short duration when dropping to allow for more epicness without a 20 second wait time long enough to avoid the explosion, also give ghost lockdown ability or something than can temporarily disable large units in battles.

    I think the viper ability needs to be stationary like storm. Otherwise Muta clouds late game would be difficult to impossible to deal with as protoss.

    The Adept was a unit I was hoping Protoss would have some day. Ever since I was the Vindicator from SC: Ghost, I was wishing for the Protoss to have ranged infantry. Now they do.

    Oh well, at least Protoss is now progressively WAIFU! The adept rounds out the Protoss race with a more lean, elegant aesthetic look that has been lost from Protoss's translation from SC1 to SC2. How progressive!

    I have a idea for LotV for Zerg: what if we make that the speed upgrade for overlords is already researched, and you can still
    research overlord drop so we would see more overlord drop's :D

    I'm happy to see that corruptors do more than just waste food supply in this new update. So many games where I have to just send my corruptors to die to make space, I can at least do some damage while sending them to die.
    The parasitic bomb seems quite powerful, lets see how that will balance out.

    @Oramjet you have to look on top or bottom of the play button. it will show America or europe or asia or etc. press on that and one of the options will be Beta legacy of the void.

    The new Terran unit (which would replace the Herc, now removed), should fulfill a similar role (high health, light armor, AOE/splash, ground only), I think should be either from Rax or Factory.
    If from Barracks: you could make Ghost Academy into just Academy (like in BW), while keeping all the GA's functions. This would make opponents think, when scouting, whether they're going Ghosts or this new unit. The new unit could be a Firebat-like, with more health (Maurauder-level) and less splash. Could have "leap/jump" ability (like Kerrigan's/Ursadon's in Campaign), which would allow them to get in close.
    If from Factory: Could be beefier Predator (from Campaign of WOL). Not as fast, but still would have high health, light armor, and low-level splash. Could have same "leap/pounce" ability.
    Character-wise, could be more female-like (as we see Toss getting a new Female unit), and there are no female units from Factory. IDK what it could be from Rax, but from factory, could be "Lynx" or "Leopard", "Puma" or "Cougar".
    I like the Barracks idea more. Factories are being used more now as it is, and with the Siege tank pick-up, thing, they will be used even more. Plus, when you see a of tech labs and a lot of GA(s) in late game, you know it's just going to be Ghosts.
    Either option would fulfill Ling/Bane counter, and allow for counter (if positioned on the outside) against Late-Game mass DT/Chargelot attacks from Toss. And with Immortal's new ability, wouldn't hard counter it, but once immortality wore off, it would be a very good counter to mass immortals too (as it the new unit would have light armor).

      Yeah, I mean it looks like the new Toss unit will be from the Warp Gate (finally), T does need another Rax unit. Some felt factory was still just underused (just float them for sight), but those were probably from ppl in low leagues or tend to just bio army win really fast. I do like the Academy idea though. Could even give it an upgrade for higher health to survive some critical hit (full storm hit, or disuptor shot, less damage to massive (ultras, thors,) or other things that will just wreck an entire Terran ground army.

    I don't like the idea of adding a "micro" button to the Immortal. It's the same as what you did to the Void Ray and it would be the same if you made us activate Charge for Zealots. Sure, it's going to have a *slightly* different effect but it's negligible. I'd rather something more interesting or a change to it's damage clamp.
    Like for example reducing damage by percentage or a flat amount or giving it the ability to charge it's own shields instead of reduced to "*this*" number.

    So siege tank can be picked sieged... Another worker line destroyer for Terran...widow mine, hellbat, Marines.

    Corrupter ability is like the old void ray ability that was removed.
    Viper will obliterate air armies with the splash damage, in the video seems like instant death.
    Locust that can fly...? No comments imba
    Protoss :
    Adept is dead once is in enemy base like any protoss attempt to drop
    Tempest disintegration seems like a very slow damage dealer
    New oracle's ability is only to buy a little time... Like force fields on ramps. It should make damage.

    Stasis field, plague, lurks, recall, vulture micro damage. These all are implemented as a ¨new¨ part of legacy. Me as a zerg player, still feel like im being robbed without swarm and a mid sized unit capable of dealing with phoenix or at least make it a fair battle between mutas and phoenix. Lurker outranging cannons? we will see.
    Ps: Zerg drop was always one of the strongest zerg strat. Now its not even close to be worthed to try.

    I feel off the bat the Disruptors are like the Terran unit from Hots that got scrapped but since it's at the robotics facility it'll not be used. They'll probably limit it to 3.
    The Zerg are way way way getting so much upgrades that negate pretty much all other buffs.

      Funny thing is you don't know they require Robotics bay a.k.a. - Colossus tech, AND cost a fuckton of gas - i.e. 300 gas.. The worst part is - if that's true - the Purification nova ability has a CD of 30 sec (hopefully that got changed at least - say down to 15 or sth)
      However - hyped and like the idea of the Adept and the Oracle's new ability :D

    This probably won't get to the Devs, but if you REALLY want something to revolutionize the games micromanaging gameplay, then alter the interface _Just a little_ so that when you have a group of units each with their abilities selected, all of the abilities show up on the lower right and if you have multiple units with the same ability up a counter appears on the ability so that you don't have to reselect or change between individual units to use the same ability from the next unit in the line.
    Doing this would be a small, fairly easy change, which would *be absolutely freaking awesome* game-play wise.

    Deleting the Warhound OH EXCUSE ME the herc is typical for blizzard both were great
    units that fit a nice role what we need is :
    a meching unit that can deal with protoss in the lategame
    a zerg unit that can deal with mech and protoss (kinda like the immortal)
    mothership abilities cost more energy
    a flying zerg unit that can harass mineral lines (in the role of Banshees/orical)
    and a nerf of storm

    Protos units seem like a little OP and the battlecruiser teleport is just silly. As I don't like so many changes it is good to know the PVP aspect of the game opens up new strategies and ways to defeat oponents. And lastly I hope the ending of the campaign won't be a total fail.

    Terran just needs another relatively cheap Starport unit that attacks both ground and air units. Wraiths were great - TBH, nobody really uses viking for more than AA and anti-colossus.

    I am extremely exited for this Beta, and I want to get my hands on mass lurker again. I was a casual BW player and I can only hope the lurker changed little, I hope that they aren't made from hydralisks, as I feel that would be too late in the tech tree in SC2. Regardless, super exited to play, and I hope I can make it into beta.

    Terrain BC can teleport anywhere in map, that is hilarious. I like how protoss can only teleport to their nexus, and zerg using nydus can only move one at a time, but BC can appear from nowhere.

    Those Battleship teleports seem a bit OP. So many of these features are going to be a nightmare to balance.
    I miss the days of WoL Beta when I could steamroll 90% of games by spamming Immortals. It felt good to win so much at a game I'm so bad at!

    6 new stuffs on Zerg and Protos units while only 3 stuffs on Teran. Teran players are pissed right now, we want more on Teran units. Put back again the Warhounds that you've removed and make other units at least more playable like the reapers which are quite unusable beyond 7 min game time. Blizzard lets make this happen.

    I have a idea we should have a unit that is like a unit that is able to give a area effect of damage and speed that helps your units but does the opposite thing to enemies like creep but has to be built in a tarran factory and it will be ground and can't support air. Also it could have a ability to cloak itself and when near other (this is what I would call them) St for support tank. They will move really slow and have little to no attack to deal. This unit will help players to get material faster and have a helping hand in defense and attack options but they have to be visible to make the area affect and the only ability when it is not clocked is unload. So this is my unit I hope for the terrens

    Hopefully they decide on the Terran unit and then I'd say all three races are rounded out with cool new things. This current vid is just Legacy of the zerg/Protoss though.

    The upgrades are huge, but the Terrans seemed a bit disadvantaged compared to the others. I wish they would make something like a carrier or a ground unit that allows marines or other units to board it and drive around while the units inside fire at the enemy following them. It would be a very aggressive unit used for quick attacks if it's fast.
    Or have the Terrans use some bio-engineering for once and use weapons with sprays or something on the zerg or other units. Stop just relying on the gun.

    It will be interesting to see what the pros will do with the new units. Some looks insanely strong, others look weak. But I am sure things might make more sense after Life, Zest and Maru has shown us what is possible to do.

    Well these changes will really make it even more fast paced and lethal. These changes will certainly favor micro over macro. I am kind of thinking some of these might be a little OP though. Giving the zerg a void ray but also giving them a power that nullifies the kind of mass aa strats that cancel void rays and own corruptors. The idea of teleporting battlecruisers sounds awesome (if not imba) but I love battlecruisers and anything that makes them more viable than just massing infantry is worth a shot. Will have to play to find out.

    Every time a siege mode tank gets dropped from a medivac, it should lose 5hp or something. It should cause strain on the tank as it moves in siege mode.

    How about a hardcore mode where it goes back to 12 unit control (or 24), one structure control, simultaneous grouped casting control which forces players to individually micro spell casters and no auto rallied mining workers.
    Call it 'Legacy Mode'. For the most skillful players, showcasing true micro, like in BW

    That Viper air ability in this video looks so overpowered. Pheonix, Viking, and Mutalisks are the counter to Vipers. This ability created makes it possible for Vipers to obliterate entire fleets of the unit that is supposed to counter them. Without air units there isn't a ground unit in the game capable of chasing down and killing an 150 hit point unit with a 2.9531 movement speed. Vipers are also cheap enough to mass produce; it could end up making Zerg air armies impossible to defeat in the lategame of Legacy of the Void.
    Immortals need to keep their hardened shield passive. Without that ability an Immortal is just an Archon with a bonus to armored rather than to biological. Anyone that has ever played Protoss knows exactly what happens when one throws archons at roaches or hellbats...they get obliterated. Without the hardened shields protoss will be unable to take out the opposing force's high hit point/high damage units. I get the desire to make them less of a hard counter to siege tanks, but protoss really doesn't have much else in terms of ground units capable of breaking through tank walls. Not to mention the introduction of Widow mines made it much easier to neutralize immortal hardened shields.
    Lastly, the disruptor is ultimately going to end up as a suicide unit and that completely goes against the protoss playstyle. Protoss needs a high splash damage/long cooldown ground unit, but the disruptor isn't a good fit for that role. I think it would be great if the disruptor could be re-imaged into something closer to the role of the reaver.

    I was honestly hoping that there would be more units for Protoss this time around considering that the Zerg and Terrans had more multiplayer units from both Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm combined than the Protoss currently have. Where's our Dragoons at?!

      in the canon Protoss lore relased with sc2 wol it says that, the Protoss unfortunatley lost the shrine and facilities to make dragons when Aiur fell to the Zerg.
      its quite a complicated unit lorewise because all the dragons are Robot skeletons around a Life support system. That supports crippled veteran Templar fighters. and therefore we now have the immortals wich is old dragons beefed up because they are a dying breed.

    The swarm host spawn while moving is an excellent idea. I also like the flying locust evolution. I thought that should have been in multiplayer HoTS but people were like NOOO.... Zerg would then be too op vs the meta and stalkers I make without anything else.

    I cant wait to see all the professional players master these new units. I am honestly thrilled about this expansion. Blizzard, you are taking e-sports to the next level - yet again! I cant wait to try it out myself.
    Furthermore - I'm looking forward to see what you managed to pack into the Protoss campaign, as you really improved in Hots comparing to WoL. WoL was a blast no doubt, Hots was a wee bit better in my opinion.
