Thanks Sandra., We slowly settling in & almost unpacked. This weekend will be the first time B & I will be here together. We'll be working on cleaning up some sheds & the pig yards. We're really looking forward to it. Cheers & all the best.
Absolutely loving the new channel and farm content! As a young person who ultimately aims to have their own farm but has no one around with a clue about how to go about it, your content gives me some much needed insight!
Davinci Resolve for edits? A wonderful choice. You get Database, Collaboration, Vetting, Editing, VFX, Audio, Colour Grading and Export all in one. The Free edition is what most people can ever need. The Studio version is to make Hollywood movies.
Fresh mushrooms mate. Puff balls are all edible here as long as they are white on the inside. I would get a book do some spore prints see what you have got. We love fresh wild mushrooms. I have a couple of patches of those that stain blue in the garden ;-)
Yeah I was thinking the same thing! I'm no expert but I recall that puffballs have no toxic varieties, you just have to be careful you don't mistake an immature toxic variety for a puffball. I would be so happy if I had puffballs growing on my land!
@@Berkeloid0 Yes thats the case here with puff balls. You are right there are some that start as a ball or egg stink horns is one. We are lucky the forest is right across from my house lots of varieties to forage I have some books but its also possible to take them to have them identified too in season.
Thanks for that Davey. I noticed some magical looking mushrooms growing from the old cow pats here after the last lot of rain. Mustn't be very good as they turned a purplish blue on the stalk when I picked them.... 🤔😉 I've made B aware of which ones they are as well so we can stay well clear of them.
Thank Rob for the update.. That's fkn awesome.. Love the fairy rings.. did some work up the hill from me and there were fairy rings every where after some rain. A heap of the red and white capped ones.. Now are you sure your ducks are ducks?? Over here they are called wood geese.. Great to see Jack enjoying himself so much.. Cheers buddy til the next one...❤
🤣 If it quacks like a duck. 😉 Are they the fly agaric/Amanita muscaria mushrooms? I didn't realise we had them here till I did a quick search just then. Cheers mate & shall chat later.
I've had an allergic reaction in the past to their spores as well Garry. I'm hoping it will be something that passes as I'd really like to start growing oyster mushrooms again at some point.
🤣 I was growing oysters for a while until I had a very bad reaction to their spawn. Would like to try again though as they are one of my favourite foods. Cheers Gary.
Not psychedelic but I've been told they cook up a treat. Leaving the land be for a while. will be chopping & dropping the grass to get some organic matter back into it. Will also look into potential improved paster varieties & cover crops as well.
Cheers for that. I just unpacked my garden books the other day but didn't see my fungus book in there. I will be checking anything we pick before consuming it. 😉👍
This ring popped up again last week after the rain. Not as visible as this one but then again the grass has grown a bit since then. 😉 What a difference 8 weeks & a few hundred mil of rain make. Hope all's going well with you mate.
I'm fairly sure that they are the common field mushrooms we used to pick as kids. Will get a proper id next flush. The puff balls are also edible but I've never tried them myself.
Not at all, managed grazing with a small mixed herd would do so much more for the land. Spreading manure and biology everywhere they graze(which will stimulate growth I'm the grasses) which isn't going to happen if you leave them fallow. Plenty out there on soil disturbance theory
We will be resting & observing the paddocks out the front for at least 12 months before we add any cattle. We may get some goats or sheep before then but they will be cell grazed around the place using electric netting we think. Cheers Paul & have a top one.
Our Fairy Ring is half the size of yours. Yes, is fascinating! I’m glad that you are enjoying your farm 🙂

Interesting mushroom rings. Those cattle egret are handy if you have cattle they remove ticks & flies & consumes them.🐮
It will be a while until we get any cattle but won't complain if they decide to visit here from, time to time.
Cheers Anna.
good to see it greening up
It's super green now. You can see just how green in the background of this weekends video.
Cheers & have a top one mate.
I look forward to it cheers mate @@BitsOutTheBackFarm
That's pretty Cool brother

That's great to hear CC. 😁👍 Hope to get into more regular videos now we've almost fully unpacked &* slowly settling in.
Cheers & have a top one.
We are loving the content too ... new farmers on 63 acres here 😁
Yay blessed by the farie folk ... we just had one pop U too 😁
We've had more pop as well but are harder to see in the grass now.
Have a top one.

Have been using it for a number of years now. Is great they have the free version for folks just starting out as well.
Your second fungi you came apone was Bird's nest fungi Rob
Thanks for that Mitch.👍
Oh yeah, if they turn blue then pick,m ‘ give,m a wash and Bobs your uncle!! 😂😂
sadly these don't
who then turns into my aunty before morphing into a rainbow that dances it's way over the horizon....
@@BitsOutTheBackFarm 🤣
Never seen that before.
They popped up again after the recent rains Amanda. They were a bit harder to see but that's due to the grass growing after all this rain.

@@BitsOutTheBackFarm Oh yes be careful with those 😉 A spore print would also be dark purple to almost brown too😃

That is quite a few mushrooms. I accidently mowed some over in the summer and the spores were bad for my sinus's. Good job on the video .
I've had an allergic reaction in the past to their spores as well Garry. I'm hoping it will be something that passes as I'd really like to start growing oyster mushrooms again at some point.
Hopefully, it will pass soon and you will get them started. 🙂. Good luck!

Don’t worry about Jack, fairy rings don’t curse animals.
I walked through it a few times as well so must be OK in their eyes as well.😉
thair huge fairy rings, we used to walk thru the rings as kids, i think it's ok, provided you don't destroy them.
We used to as kids but now I wouldn't think of it.
Cheers Shane.
Mushroom farm coming soon then
🤣 I was growing oysters for a while until I had a very bad reaction to their spawn. Would like to try again though as they are one of my favourite foods.

How bazar with the mushies, if their fairy, wouldn't that make them "Magic Mushies"? Pigs, Goats, & chooks, would do wonders to those paddocks.
Not psychedelic but I've been told they cook up a treat.

That’s awesome, good futile soil or at least some life below the surface.thanks for sharing. Cheers
Cheers Stephan. 😁
You also need to watch out for “field mushrooms” staining yellow, they can make you a bit sick, called yellow stainers or Agaricus xanthadermus
Cheers for that. I just unpacked my garden books the other day but didn't see my fungus book in there. I will be checking anything we pick before consuming it. 😉👍
Nice to see some greening grass Rob. Those mushrooms are everywhere at present and some of them are huge. Must be perfect conditions.

Would a fairy ring be a good place to plant a tree, with the fungal life there?
Not sure with this variety to tell you the truth. Might be something to look into when I find my fungus books.
we missed the old cooking videos,
guess now we have an excuse for one
the one you pinched is an agaricus spp. most likely edible. at least the ones here are
I'm fairly sure that they are the common field mushrooms we used to pick as kids. Will get a proper id next flush. The puff balls are also edible but I've never tried them myself.
the puff balls are nice
cut like steak and sauté them with butter and garlic@@BitsOutTheBackFarm
Amazing! We have some pretty sizeable puff balls growing on our farm but I've never noticed rings. Will have to pay more attention in future.
We had another faint one pop up in roughly the same spot after last weeks rain Tairis. I'm thinking they will be a regular occurrence here.
The best thing you can do with all of this former pasture land is nothing for at least 3 years to re-establish the grasslands.
Not at all, managed grazing with a small mixed herd would do so much more for the land. Spreading manure and biology everywhere they graze(which will stimulate growth I'm the grasses) which isn't going to happen if you leave them fallow. Plenty out there on soil disturbance theory

I am so disappointed that you didn’t work in one mushroom pun. I thought you were a fungi….
😂😂
🤣 My bad mate. I'll try better next time.
Today I visited mushroom farm ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Nice one. Were they edible or medicinal mushrooms?
Talked about mushrooms. But didn't get to that. Lost interest. Cheers.
Yet you stayed long enough to comment. I'll give you a thumbs up for that. 👍🤣
1st 🙃😉😊
