The most underrated Broadway actress of the 21st century.
I saw her in San Francisco in both Anything Goes and Head Over Heels. She's UNBELIEVABLE.
I know right?
I recently did Disaster! and I personally played Kerry Butler’s role but my close friend played Rachel York’s role and her portrayal was so great to work off of.
Totally agree - in Kiss Me Kate she was superb with that incredible voice and oh so beautiful too !
How amazing is Rachel York?!! Why isn't she a megastar?!!!
Too beautiful?
Rachel York just has the "it" factor. She is always spot on in all her roles and her comedic timing and expressions are just an absolute gift. Her delivery of So in Love (2004, Kiss Me, Kate) is still my favorite rendition: she sang the song in a lower key, but the emotions were more mesmerizing. She sings so effortlessly and is absolutely amazing in any role she plays!
I love Sutton Foster but gotta say Rachel is fantastic in this roll! WOW!!!
Rachel can tap-dance, too, IN ADDITION to those pristine pipes for which she's known????
Somebody PLEASE write this woman a great big Broadway musical of her own to originate so we can see her win a Tony Award!
P.S.: Did anyone notice that they blocked Rachel traveling in the opposite direction from Sutton and Stephanie on that series of chasse-spins across the stage from 4:36 to 4:47?
@@oscarphileyesss I noticed this
I first fell in love with Rachel York from “Victor/Victoria” where she was a knockout as Norma 🤩 Then her amazing performance as Lucille Ball in the bio-pic “Lucy”. And then back in 2012, my mom and I saw her in this tour of “Anything Goes” and I got to meet her at the stage door and tell her how much I admired her. She was so nice and sweet and we got a picture together! 🥰 memories
She's amazing in Kiss me Kate
I first saw her in Anything Goes years ago. She's great! I've been to see Head Over Heels on Broadway twice and going back again before it closes. She's fantastic in that also.
i saw this cast in Chicago a few years ago. it was a great production!
Saw Rachel in Victor Victoria in the 90s...she stole the show.
She is the new Merman! Give her all the awards!
@J M Exactly what I was thinking. Rachel York can belt it out like Ethel Merman.
I think this is from the Greenville SC Peace Center Nov 2013 tour stop. The best Broadway musical performance by an individual actor/actress I have seen! The correct voice for this 1930s strong woman character! Rachel’s performance is the gold standard. I have listened to others from Ethel Merman onwards, often multiple times to try to take away my bias, but Rachel’s is still the best!🎉❤
she also voiced circe in justice league.
2:44 - 7:51
I prefer her voice to Sutton Foster, who sounds too nasal for my taste.
Even if Foster is the better dancer - for me a classical musical is primarily about singing.
Love miss York, but I'm underwhelmed with her she's seems totally uninterested and lazy. No engery at all. Is it just me?
Could be an off night?
I just saw her yesterday. She was phenomenal!
Yes. It is you. These kind of recordings suck the life out of live performances. Which you should know .
Slime tutorials, am I right
You also have to remember that this is an eight minute tap number. Anyone with proper musical theater training understands that they have to conserve their energy as best they can to sustain such difficult material. She is definitely giving 100% here. But any sense you’re getting of uninterested and lazy is just your own take. She worked her butt off in this part.
