I still can't believe that out of all epic world-in-the-stake battles we've got in the last games (like Ultra Necrozma in USUM, Giratina in PLA and even Max Eternatus in SwSh) the one that got the 'Sephiroth' treatment with ominous lyrics in Latin was the one against Rose right before the legendary.
I feel like they could just do what Zelda does, only voice acting during cutscenes and when you just quickly talk to someone there is no voice acting besides maybe a few words
I mean, they did add the cutscenes and even animated the characters speaking…
Maybe they went like “Oh screw it, we’ll add it on the next game surely!”
Especially the animated cutscenes in Scarlet and Violet. They feel empty without voicing (although the music always slaps).
Another fun fact about Pokémon masters EX's VA is that the characters will also say a special line when getting selected into a team with other specific characters. For example, N will recognise any of the BW and BW2 protags, aswell as Ghetsis!

A couple of things that I’d like to point out is in Pokémon Snap they used the Japanese anime voice for Porygon, even though it was given an English voice for a “Who’s That Pokémon” segment.
And in Poképark Wii, Porygon-Z had to have a voice made exclusively for that game, as it had not appeared in the anime.
That’s two members of the Porygon line with three voices between them, and we still don’t have an anime-style voice for Porygon2!

Pokémon needs to bring in voice acting. The amount of times I've just listened through a bunch of Masters EX voice line vids to hear the different ways characters speak is insane. Not only that but the singing trainers like Piers and Ryme NEED their voices.
I can spend hours listening to their voice line and their interactions when some of them are on the same team like when blue and leaf are on your team blue will say"I sorry leaf but I alone is enough" or something along those line
Give me what I neeeeeed-
And that is full on voice acting in mainline, I'm *begging* you GameFreak. Masters gives so much personality to everyone by doing this.
By the way, really like the longer form! Keep up the good work.
its odd how a pair of DS games seem to have the most mainline examples of voice acting. roxies singing, the village bridge song, elesas gym, colress and ghetsis... they all feel so stylish!

Ikue Otani really has an eye for getting long time contracts, she literally voices two main characters in the two longest going piece of fiction right now
I dunno how much they pay her, but between Pilachu and Tony Tony Chopper from One Piece, she guaranteed to still have work by 2050 at least
I'd take voice acting just during cutscenes, that way it's not so damn awkward watching them flap their lips in silence after I'm already done reading the text

There is no way you missed the village bridge man. That man had a full on vocal performance, and is probably the best voice acting we've gotten.

Another thing to consider is that pokemon games allow you to choose your name. And that helps with inmersion a lot. And all the characters refer to you by that name . But they wouldn't be able to use the name you choose in a voice acted game.
I would like if we got vocal battle themes with lyrics for a future game. I love the recent gym battle themes, and it would be great if they expanded that!
I do agree with the second part of the reasoning every Pokémon game I play I come up with the voices for the characters and act it out. It’s a lot a fun to do so as well.

One thing I noticed in this video is that gen 5 is amazing. Everyone hated Gen 5 when it originally came out. A few years later there was a group of people who said that Gen 5 was underrated. And now it is in the top 3 best generations for everyone. Gen 5 is no longer underrated and people love it now

I don’t mean to be that guy, but I wouldn’t really call Roxie & Elesa’s gym themes true voice acting. It’s just the music being diegetic in the same vein as Team Star’s music; it gives the illusion that Roxie actually is singing, but it’s still just the soundtrack. Although I will say, as much as I love Piers, he really should’ve gotten the same treatment as you suggested, that silent cutscene was very awkward.
I see where you're coming from. I just thought for the sake of being thorough, I'd put them in. Plus, plenty of people do consider it to be voice acting, so I'd get many comments telling me I missed them.
Honestly, I don't think pokemon needs voice acting throughout the ENTIRE game. Most rpgs now have voice overs during cut scenes but otherwise the characters are silent. I think that would be enough for pokemon.
Obvious voice overs would be the professor's introduction at the beginning of the game, going into gym leader and elite four battles, and the climax at the end of the game

its a proper shame that they dont have proper voice acting expecally when all the major charaters are voiced in the anime. and with the games trying to be more cinimatic with people talking them just being silent is more and more jaring. what really sucks is for the adverts for the latest game to show off that gym leader with teh balls for hair the advert was her talking like a vtuber with her having a voice actor

I've always been of the opinion that a few generic voicelines alone would work complete magic. The fact we don't even have that yet is astonishing.
There were even “vocals” in Ghetsis’ them in Pokemon black and white. Which are just the voices “saying” his name
Sw/sh has no excuse brih bede’s theme has someone saying bede in the background, and the absolute banger of a gym leader theme has chanting or something

I love that Pokémon Masters EX gives more life and character depth to the character giving us cannon voices but also how they interact with other characters that we dont get to see in anime or main line games.

What about the Village Bridge theme in Pokémon BW/B2W2 after you talk to the singing guy? I’m pretty sure that was also a recorded voice. Also, Bede’s theme has his name yelled out in the song.

i would like to add that bw and bw2 had vocals in some songs as well, in the form of ghetsis and colress' themes.
It's not much, but it IS voice acting.
Also, technically, Arceus’s English pronunciation is officially “Are-kay-us”, but the Japanese spelling is “A-ru-se-u-su”, so… maybe Ryan Reynolds’s just spoke Japanese for a secind
if you are not gonna do voice acting at least do like little dialogue beep sounds like most other RPGs that have a large amount of NPCs, i cant think of any example other than undertale, and comparing undertale to pokemon is like comparing peaches and dragonfruit so i refuse to elaborate
everyone knows nothing after gen 7 exists. If they did, they wouldn't have those evolution changes.
