    How about using it as summer non stop AC. My idea which I may make soon is installing the peltier on room window where the hot side is outside the room and cold inside.

    A personal cooling device maybe. You may replace both mini fans on cool side for 2 large CPU heatsinks placing the fins side inside a tube or similar structure frame to create the air path. A 30 cm or so propeller fan at the end of the tube will move the air and blow on you face/torso.Onother tube on hot side will blow the heat through a window outside the room.

    I will use the same unit to help the basement wine cabinet (up to 200 bottles) stay below 55F in Colorado summers. I use a small garage heater and an Inkbird Pro controller for regulation. The Inkbird is web enabled so I can track wine cabinet temperature remotely.

    I know this is a old video but I just purchased a large TowerOfPower Humidor Cabinet. I live a warm area and running the AC is far too expensive now. Making sure that the inside must remain 70° humidification is not hard since there are many devices to purchase to maintain that 70°. What there is not, is a unit or product to maintain the 70° inside temperature. Wondering if this would be a option with a Temp control module would do the trick.

    Just to point out, a large drawback of peltiers is their low efficiency. It can be used for hobbyist/small projects but can't replace air-conditioners/coolers meant for larger area coverage as solicited by many of the comments.

    • @mrawesome6239

      Ketan Vaidya actually it can.
      Their efficiency is bad due to the amount of power input and the energy lost to heat.
      Places where electricity drain does not matter, such as if you go on holiday in a hotel, you don't care what their bill is.
      Same as industrial places,

    • @lrahirwar27

      Ketan Vaidya ji, yes you are right. Peltier cooling area is mere 4cm x 4cm that is not sufficiet for cooler or ac purpose.

      The efficiency of a regular fridge is between 40% and 60% and the efficiency of a peltier module is between 10% and 15% so very inefficient indeed. They are mainly useful in applications where there is no room for compressors, pipes, liquids and gasses and in cases where the orientation of the system is changing a lot.

    I live in mexico and love to go camping with my gf, BUT theres a huge problem... the insane weather!!! imagine ur in your camping tent at midnight WITHOUT heat and those mosquitos, would actually be heaven, also if u add a 12 v solar powered system u can easily get inside ur tent and watch comfortly a movie with someone, ( i know that thats not the point of going outside) but it would be really fun !

  • @nishantyadav5587
    @nishantyadav5587 6 лет назад +2

    You can add a water block probably an alumini or copper made in between the peltiers and than run cold water through it which gets criculated in cheap copper pipes which can than be mounted on a table fan this way the efficiency will be much increased also there will be condensation of moisture in room leading to Air conditioned effect ...alternative to water can be an anti freeze coolant which ll be bit costly but more effective than water...no need for heat sink on cooling side just sandwich the peltier module onto the water block ....i have tried this is works perfectly i used 2 peltiers on laptop chargers almost 100 watts bt it gives me cooled air one more modification can be that you can use some tubing made of cardboards with inner side covered with alumini foil or tape to vent out the hot air...or else the cooling and heating simultaneously will nullify each others effect thanks

  • @eliastorres3132
    @eliastorres3132 7 лет назад

    What about using water for cooling the hot side and the cold side for cooling water which will pass thru a fixed fence which you can use with any regular fan to cool any area.

    Are the interior fans really necessary especially if using a big heat sink like the one outside? In that case, convection should take care of the chilling.

    • @GadgetAddict
      @GadgetAddict  7 лет назад

      Maybe, maybe not. Either way they take a minute amount of power compared to the peltier modules so it's probably not even worth worrying about.

    I have what appears to be the same unit. Where did you get the wiring diagram? Do you think its enough for a small wine cooler? I need to get it from about 68 to 5oish farenheit?

    • @GadgetAddict
      @GadgetAddict  2 года назад

      It's just positive and negative, 12V supply. So no real wiring diagram is needed.
      As for whether it could be used as a small wine cooler. Honestly I'm not sure.
      I guess it should be possible, since many mini fridges only have one of these cooling units (peltier)

  • @dpjazzy15
    @dpjazzy15 7 лет назад

    I just bought a unit nearly identical to this one. Mine has the same fans and heat sinks, but mine has 3 modules instead of 2. I wanted to use it to cool a bedroom. It hasn't arrived from China yet, so I won't get to mess around with it until then, but it is supposed to tolerate 150 - 180 watts on the high end at 12 volts. What's awesome about them is how small and compact they are. If 1 unit isn't powerful enough, I could stack another 1 or 2 with it in the window and get additional power supplies for them. If it's simply too weak to accomplish anything in my window, I'll make a foam box for it and use it as a mini fridge hahaha.

    • @nautical1983
      @nautical1983 7 лет назад

      again....5% efficiency on peltiers. ur in for a huge let down if u think u can cool a room with these...even if u properly insulate the indifference of temperatures. u could get box fan for the same price i bet

    • @dpjazzy15
      @dpjazzy15 7 лет назад

      nautical1983 box fans don't make a significant temperature change. I bought one to mess around with it. I may incorporate it in my computer some way if it doesn't help my room at all. I bought it to mess with it and if it's super inefficient, I'll run it off solar or I won't use it as an AC. I just find it to be an exciting concept. No moving parts. Very cool. I'm also interested in the efficiency differences if you is more units at lower power instead of fewer units at maximum power.

    Sir can you tell me that on the both sides the fans are sucking the air or blowing the air

  • @privateprivate8366
    @privateprivate8366 6 лет назад

    OK so, I don’t know anything about Peltier modules. But, the other day, I blew an old mini fridge because, when it was manufactured, they used the same socket for 12v that one would use for 120v so, I didn’t know the difference and blew it. One of the engineers I work with took interest and said that it probably had a Peltier module so, I gave the fridge to him so he could tinker with it and bought myself another mini fridge, which might also have a Peltier module, but cools as well as warms.
    Anyway, the question I’m trying to get to is whether it’s possible to convert an Homedics MyChill from an evaporative cooler to one with a Peltier module. I have 2 MyChill units (one large and one small) and, apparently, Homedics knew little about how to manufacture what they were selling. I’ve had both for about 3 months. The larger one will no longer distribute water and the smaller one, which I keep at work, is leaking water all over my desk. But, I’m looking at the size of what you have, I wondered if something half the size of that could be used inside of an Homedics MyChill, without all of the problems the units ship with. As the new mini fridge I purchased, apparently, uses not much more electricity than a light bulb, it seems like a perfect match, although from what I hear regarding most Peltier setups, they seem to draw too much electricity for the benefit.
    Still, I would love to have a small, portable, leak-free unit for home and work. Is this a possibility at all?

      you should be happy with your purchase. a peltier is an open source of differing heat, thus creating condensation as apposed to closed water systems. arc ur ecu and ur out more cash with potential fire hazard. i work at microsoft and have heard its a bad application

    • @czarzenana5125
      @czarzenana5125 6 лет назад

      It is a bad application because those peltiers consume a lot of power that is also converted into heat. You will have to get rid of that extra heat as well.

    I'm looking for a little help.. I watched a bunch of videos on these and not getting a solid answer and it seems you are the only one that actually responds to questions. OK here it goes. I built a 1:32 scale "ice box" for a model ship. I used the smallest Peltier module I could find with the lowest volt requirements. ( TES1-3103, 3.5V/3A) I'm powering by a 3.5V 1400mah li-po. The unit seems to work but it gets very hot pretty quickly, no matter the polarity. what am I doing wrong here??? do I need a buck converter?? or are there different peltiers for heating/cooling? STUCK!....

    • @MxSpanner
      @MxSpanner 6 лет назад +1

      Randy Coolbaugh i think peltier modules logic is
      The lower the temperature you can get on the hot side, the lower the temperature you can reach on the cool side could be upto -0 to -35°C depending on the type of peltier module.

    • @randycoolbaugh1408
      @randycoolbaugh1408 6 лет назад +1

      oh. so the TYPE of module also depends on degree of ability... did not know this! Thanks!! I have been playing with this thing for a bit, I ended up making a larger heat sink with a fan.... a teeny tiny fan.... also I installed a buck converter... This is as much as I can do without it loosing its scale ice box appearance.

  • @EspHack
    @EspHack 7 лет назад +3

    "that" thing will draw 4-5 times more watts than the conventional compression AC while doing the same "cooling" essentially if you wanted to achieve the performance of an 800w AC you would need about 4000w worth of peltiers, and the heat those will produce will be around 7000w, imagine that, how would you dissipate 7000w of heat?
    anyway im just thinking of making a personal AC with this, since going down the scales that much you simply cant do it with conventional AC units, and using around 200-300w to cool your face on a desk seems pretty reasonable to me

      Nowadays you can actually buy small portable aircon units which look almost like a slightly oversized brief case. Or maybe between the size of a brief case and the size of a carry-on luggage.
      They're proper condenser based aircons, but just made much smaller.

BTW, it was kinda awkward at the end you were moving but had the two "previous" videos show up. I think it is much better if you just froze the last frame instead. :)

      There's probably some math behind working it out but I'm not sure. You'd need a LOT i'd guess. You might want to look into converting a car aircon system instead.

    Hi, Can you dip the heating part into water without the fan attached ? Peltiers are anyways inefficient, so want to know what impact that experiment would have on cold side of the module :-)

    • @czarzenana5125
      @czarzenana5125 6 лет назад

      Yes you can. I read from a guy that actually dipped it in a large bucket with a lot of icy water and the temperature of the cold side of the peltier got down to -50 degrees Celsius. The maximum achievable temperature difference of both sides of the peltier module is 67 degrees Celsius, so if you manage to cool down the hot side very well the cold side will get very cold.

    hi buddy, I am very much looking for air-conditioning solution for my 60 bed hostel using a peltier design, the reason for this is fairly simple
    1) want to just cool the bed instead of the whole room
    2) I could have duct free AC solution (I had considered using an old 1.5 ton AC via 2-4 inch ducts to supply cool AIR to all the beds but that would mean running the AC all the time irrespective of bed occupancy)
    3) I am using wall fans right now which use 60 watts of power at 230volts whereas this will be using 12volts at 60-80 watts hence similar power usage *(hopefully)
    however I foresee 1-2 major challenge
    1) Dissipation of Heat - Generation of heat from the peltier heat side.
    Possible solution - I could use a liquid cooling method & circulate the water through an over head tank with 60 units running all night for 12 hrs it should be able to heat sufficient hot water for bath OR atleast warm it
    2) I would still be left with the problem of recycling the AIR in the enclosed area. 8hrs of a person sleeping in an enclosed space is unhealthy & dangerous therefore I would still require ducting system for this
    question to you - have your observed the time taken to the cool the enclosed bed space that you had experimented & also how much temperature drop was possible

    • @czarzenana5125
      @czarzenana5125 6 лет назад

      Just lower the voltage to decrease the heat pumping effect.
      You could also use a thermostat which switches on at one temperature and off at another temperature, but changing the voltage is better for the peltier module.

    Reverse Engineer it! Get the Peltier and put them on the roof to generate a generous amount of energy and save it like in powerbanks or use with a 5V or 12V fan. Hhmmm What do you think? There are tons of detailed guides on how to make one online. It could be helpful at least to save a few bucks.

    hey i like your videos! i recently been tinkering with 2 peltiers i ordered on amazon for cheap. they worked great for a little but but both suddenly stopped working. i cant find any info why i destroyed them as i made a diy mini cooler. they were rated at 12v and had them hooked up to a golf cart battery thats 12v. i had heat sinks on both sides. but im confused on the direction of the cooling fans on both sides....i think i had both fans inward to push air through the heatsink and push the temperatures off of the radiating aluminum. the seller was awesome and sent me free replacement peltiers....but im hesitant to ruin another pair of them when i dont have money to buy more. any suggestions where i went wrong? do you know if a peltier gets destroyed if its internal temp destroys itself by not using heatsinks with fans and thermal paste?

    • @GadgetAddict
      @GadgetAddict  7 лет назад

      I don't think it makes a huge difference whether your cooling fans are pushing or pulling. Peltiers can fry themselves if they get too hot. I've lost a few due to overheating. I've also had some that just failed for no apparent reason. Not being pushed very hard and suddenly they just stopped working. So I guess to some degree it might just be the nature of the beast when it comes to cheap eBay electronics :P

      I appreciate the response! I tried to look deeper into it and took a long time... the conclusion I came up with was to start at the beginning . knowing the seabeck effect and its properties to interconnect 2 different distinctive metallic properties and individual conductivity of the unique properties. Then tried to think of where the system could possibly fail...boiled down to the connectivity of the conjoining of the 2 metals. poor welding or soldering jobs can oxidize with air pockets or cheap materials becoming brittle by the high intensity and expansion/contractions by a direct connection with fluctuation of heat. like concrete getting breaks and crack from extreme weather.

    the cardboard box. do that but out of plastic or something with a smooth surface. remove the 2 fans on the coold side. make 2 hole's in the box. get 2 metal tubes. short ones. maybe something like what they use for small vents. now you got a intake and outtake for air. put 1 of the fans you removed in the end of one of the metal tubs. now it will suck air in to the box .cool it down then blow it back out. if you have a smaller diameter at the outtake then the air will compress a bit and get colder. (inntake big outtake small) . on the hot side. remove the fans. take a metal tube cut it in about half on the long side. stick it to the hot sides heatsink. and but a fan on one end. blowing air in to the tube. this should create a "vacum" and pull the hot air with it as it passes the hot heatsink. now you consume less power. sorry about the poor spelling and gramer. am both lazy and dum. :)

    Anime fan. Building a Totoro mascot costume that can get up to 140*F inside during the summer. So yeah, I don't dare wear it during the summer. But if you can figure out how to get one of the mini refrigeration units to work in a mascot costume using just a phone battery pack, you'll have some buyers, fast. The one in this video is too large. But I know they make smaller ones that are powerful. Mascot fans work off of a simple battery. But it's not enough. Just circulates the hot air around the mascot costume. You figure that out, make sure the emissions are non toxic, I'm first in line to buy!

    How many BTU/Hour of cooling will it do? I have done a bit of math and a high-end gaming PC will produce 2,500-4,000 BTU/Hour. The 4000 was a bit of an exaggeration. I am sure that peltiers could be used for PC cooling at very low cost if solar powered.

    • @Rroff2
      @Rroff2 6 лет назад

      TEC1 Peltiers are usually in the region of 100-200 BTU so you'd need like a dozen of them to even come close to removing the heat of a gaming PC assuming you were effectively removing the heat to an external environment.
