I have a Kanstul made F Besson Meha s/n 1475 from 1984 in silver plate. Great trumpet!

The loss of Kanstul was a major blow to the brass world. Jim New is still making mouthpieces, but the company as a whole is a footnote to history.

I have a Kanstul made F Besson Meha, bought new in 1985, large bore (0.470) and I love it! So open, easy to play and just sings, especially in the upper register. I keep thinking I should get a new horn but nothing sounds as good as this one! (I’ve had other horns but always go back to the Meha). Nice video with great knowledge - thanks!

I have a Schagerl 600S. Tray Austin said that the Academica line resembles Besson. It surely looks like.

I've got a REAL 1952 (made in France) Besson Meha and it plays very powerful. I bought it in 1987 from this guy's father, who had it silver plated a couple of years before he sold it to me.....for only $500!! I took it to Bob Reeves who measured the bore at .470, and used it for my lead playing until I bought a Jerome Callet Super Bore in 1995 (bore .472) and it was made to Jerome's specs by Kanstul. Even more powerful with better control, and a lot more sizzle that cut through the band. (rounder louder triple 'C's)
