Great sound !! congrats.
Beautiful tone!!!!
I've read that Mendez had to have his Olds valves excessively lapped to match his old Besson's worn out valves.

A buddy of mine in high school ('87/'88 school year) had a silver-plated Mercedes but it didn't have the 1st slide saddle, and the valve caps looked like the same ones from a Bundy. It also had a 2-piece bell. I had a Bach 72 and would mock him for getting the "knock off" version of a Bach until I tried his and actually liked it. To mask my teen aged insecurities, I told him; "It sucked" but it really didn't.
Sounds like your friend had a Mercedes II, which was a student model like the Bundy. The Mercedes of this era was a mid-line instrument.
Sentimiento extraordinario! Like!
When I purchased my Bach flugelhorn about 20 years ago, for some reason many of my contemporaries looked down on my purchase claiming there were better fuels available. I’ve found the horn to be top notch, and have been very satisfied with my horn.
@@michaeltroster9059 I tried 12 flugelhorns (Yamaha, Kanstul, Calichio) at Dillon Music before choosing this one. Just before I made the purchase I asked for another Bach 183 to try. It was terrible. Mine was good from the get go but after a Reeves valve alignment and some other mods it played great. I played it for 16 years before transitioning to an old Couesnon for a year and eventually to Van Laar, which I play to this day.
Tell me more about this horn please!! Wow

@@ChrisKaseMusic thanks!
I know these horns are highly prized in Europe, but their sound is kind of "meh" to my ears. They sound a bit thin to me.
@@ronaldinnewmexico1912 well, upload a video of your favorite flugelhorn and we’ll compare…
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
How do the harmonies work in that thing ???
@@apeschell please check out this video: ruclips.net/video/D1Dj73jPoqo/видео.htmlsi=f38n1oXRbK0Qrq24
@@ChrisKaseMusic thank you for explaining!
How do I purchase one
It would be hard to find one of these in useable condition. Check out the NuEVI by Berglund Instruments.
14:49 Beautiful!!
Thanks! 🙏
Hi Chris, I would love to but this amazing instrument from you! I see that you are a Van Laar artist, I also play a beautiful Van Laar instrument. I am finishing my conservatory studies in the Netherlands where I studied with Angelo Verploegen, maybe you know him? Maybe we could continue our conversation over e-mail?
sure: go to chriskase.com and you will find my email.
Awh man, these are so hard to find now! Where I live(The Netherlands) it is nearly impossible to find one of these beauties. I guess you are not planning on selling it right??😅 Great playing! That last bit was especially wonderful!!!
Thanks! I just posted a video of one of the first Steiner EVIs, please check it out. I will be selling it.
Ok what’s the mouthpiece Denis wick 3B FL ?
What mouthpiece are you using at the end with this?
Hi, the mouthpiece at both the beginning and the end is a Frate Precision Classic 4+ ML,3,106 with a custom rim.
That’s a .438 bore? How did Maynard get that huge sound on that horn? You play brilliantly to state the obvious.
The Conn had a HUGE tuning slide bend that opened the blow up. BTW-Maynard played the 38b on LIVE gigs but the 36b for studio sessions. I briefly had a 1960 38b, it was heavy and clunky but man it was easy to play and LOUD
You’re good at this. 😊
What’s the mouthpiece for that van laar what a range
It’s a Denis Wick 3BFL, although the mouthpiece has nothing to do with it.
wonderful timbre
Senza dubbio tra i migliori flicorni sul mercato, buongiorno. Complimenti al Maestro!
👍👍👍👍👍🎺🎼🌹
I have a NY Bach from 1947 with a 7 lead pipe. What’s the difference in blow between the 7 and 25 in your opinion?
supposedly the 7 is more open than the 25 (due to a larger venturi, I guess). but as happens with mouthpieces, by trying several examples of the exact same size, you won't find two that are exactly alike. and will most likely find that all are slightly or even very different from each other.
@@ChrisKaseMusic which Frate mouthpiece are you using? I have one but the rim feels a little small. I have the 4M 3106
@@jonarnold8982 mine is a Classic 4+ ML,3,106 with a rim copied from a Giardinelli 3VS because the standard M rim also felt a little small to me, the Giardinelli rim is slightly flatter.
Nice! I still own a 1964/5 38B that was a Christmas present from my family when I was in middle school. I knew that it was an excellent horn back then, but didn't know of the long list of jazz greats who played/play this horn during their careers. A couple of years ago I had Bob Reeves perform a PVA on it and it's never played or sounded so good. Liked and subscribed.
Thanks, enjoy your Connstellation! 🎺
I just got my Aki EWI 1000 last week. It was in dire need of some TLC. I had to break down the synth unit to clean it and replace the tuning pot that had its post broken off. I got it back together and tested that everything is working. The controller is now all torn down. I’ve polished up all the keys and am in the process of cleaning the rest of it and paining the body. Hearing you play yours has me jonesing to get mine finished up! 😂 I still have my NuRAD and other controllers, though. You sound great as always, Chris!
thanks! 👍
Mellow and beautiful! Great job 👏!
My god nice.😊
Thanks! 🎺
❤❤❤
Excellent video, as usual. :) Keep up the great work - very informative and enjoyable!
Thanks! 🎺
didn't expect it to sound nearly that good. great playing man!
I have a Kanstul made F Besson Meha s/n 1475 from 1984 in silver plate. Great trumpet!
I have a Kanstul made F Besson Meha, bought new in 1985, large bore (0.470) and I love it! So open, easy to play and just sings, especially in the upper register. I keep thinking I should get a new horn but nothing sounds as good as this one! (I’ve had other horns but always go back to the Meha). Nice video with great knowledge - thanks!
Thanks! 🎺
What a lovely horn. Beautiful sound.
Thanks! 🎺
I've got a REAL 1952 (made in France) Besson Meha and it plays very powerful. I bought it in 1987 from this guy's father, who had it silver plated a couple of years before he sold it to me.....for only $500!! I took it to Bob Reeves who measured the bore at .470, and used it for my lead playing until I bought a Jerome Callet Super Bore in 1995 (bore .472) and it was made to Jerome's specs by Kanstul. Even more powerful with better control, and a lot more sizzle that cut through the band. (rounder louder triple 'C's)
Beautiful playing. Nice horn. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the great video. What’s the difference between 23, 24b and chorus models?
Thank you. The Chorus is a newer model (2000s) compared to the 23 or 24b, which had different bore sizes and possibly different leadpipes and/or bells.
its been great listening and learning about these horns
thanks for watching!
lovely
That was excellent!
Is goog
Nice
Nice sound <3
Thank you 😋
wow that sounded amazing !!
You play that hellish demon music very well!
The loss of Kanstul was a major blow to the brass world. Jim New is still making mouthpieces, but the company as a whole is a footnote to history.
hello, the intro is very groovy. Whats the name of the music ?
