Concise ! ...... or the filter that I DIDN'T HAVE. Bought my '16 with 8600 miles on it in Apr '18 so I'm not thinking somebody removed it. Dared to NOT empty the glove box before removal and was successful. TY for posting this.

Great video - It should be noted that some (including my 2016 Ram) had a slot for a cabin air filter but did not ever cut the opening to slide a filter in. Hard to believe - believe it! You will need to cut an opening in the plastic (not easy) and then buy a cap to snap back over your filter once you slide it in.

Major cost cutting design flaw in the pre-2017 Rams. Imagine all the dust and mold and crap collected on the evaporator/heater core without a filter. Imagine the cost to replace the evaporator when it fails due to all that crap and your AC doesn't work. Google that. Ask me how I know.😦😠
I suggest getting the kit to fix it before it's too late.

Great video. Quick advice on what filter to buy; DON'T get the thick ones, they will shorten the life of your ac unit. The current false advertising that is running rampant is an N95 cabin filter. Don't fall for it. There is no vehicle that is sealed to make that useful except those that are designed for it. Such as a space shuttle or submarine or other similar purposed vehicle. Having the windows up doesn't mean your vehicle is sealed. You are always breathing outside air 100%. The purpose of the filter is because of the vacuum effect the ac unit causes, it intakes more air in such an isolated spot that it causes a vacuum and can suck up pollen, dust, leaves, grass particles, etc.. your face is no where near the filter therefore you are personally still breathing outside air as it's constantly coming in through various crevices, holes, openings that are natural in all vehicles. The more you limit the vacuum effect (by getting a thicker filter) the more harder the ac has to work. As some of you mentioned a lot, and I mean a lot of vehicles do not even have cabin filters, but the slot is there for that purpose should the car owner want to put one in. Just remember your breathing the same air that is outside no matter what size thickness you put in there. Just trying to help you save some $$$

I was in Naples Chrysler Dodge (Naples FL) for a brake job on my RAM 3500 and they recommended the cabin air filter be replaced. Along with $6300 in other recommendations. Today I go to replace the filter myself, and the filter and cover are both missing. Now either they checked the filter, and forgot to put it back, or they didn’t check it at all. The truck is used, so maybe the previous owner? In any case, would you trust a dealership that did this? Not only that, but they charged roughly a 60% markup on the rotors and pads, and 120% markup on the calipers. I’m 2000 miles from home with no tools or place to work on it, so I was at their mercy. Not sure how some people look themselves in the mirror in the morning…

My 15 1500 didn’t have this. I’m cutting the space and adding the filter. Found the kit on Amazon. Kind of a weird item to exclude up front. Using a brand new razor in a nice box knife. There are slots where the knife slides right in. I’m 6’2” so I’m laying across the front seat from the drivers side like I’m doing a photo shoot for some trucker mag. 😂

Just finished. There’s also a cable bunch on the far right (passenger side / outside) to watch out for. Shaved it clean carefully and put the filter in.
Added the new door but had to really work to get the filter into the slot based on the angle needed in order to start it. It’s not straight at all. Lol. Frustrating but now it’ll be easier to swap this out.

As luck would have it, here I am, 2 years later… not with my ‘15 1500, but now a ‘18 3500… same question as before and this video pops up in my search. Deja vu much? Hell yeah!
My 18 came with the cabin filter though so no need to cut anything this time.
Couldn’t remember how to get the lid piece off so thank you. Straight to the important stuff.

Beginning in 2017, Dodge introduced the CAF to this model, and most current trucks are outfitted with one under the dashboard behind the glove compartment box or under the hood." It looks easy on the video. However, I cannot find the tabs on the side. It's a pain.

Push the tabs towards each other. See if that helps.

My 2012 RAM does not have that cover. The area is sealed off with no access.

I've seen some people with a sealed cover use a dermal tool or hot sodering iron and cut it out.

If you choose to get a higher quality filter make sure it has good seals, what good is a hepa or charcoal filter if air can get past. I want to drive past a dead skunk and not smell anything lol

Having trouble pushing the left and right taps to release the filter cover...is there a tool to be used?
    Thanks in advance

Zeegiliana- I don't think there is a tool. Put your finger on the outside of the tab, push it in while pushing it towards you. I hope that helps.

I have 2012 Ram and apparently they forgot about this trucks cabin filter. There’s no filter and I don’t even have the little cover on it. In fact it doesn’t even look like the space was cut out to slide the filter in.
