  • In this episode of the insect hunter I show viewers how to use a wet shovel to collect small insects in plant material. Though this method is not the most technical it can still help a pest manager, hobby collector or farmer learn about the types of insects that are in a variety of plants. For alfalfa farmers in Idaho they may find it useful to help them detect the presence of thrips.

You deserve a lot more love! Sure, some insects and bugs look creepy, but a lot of them are very important, plus they are all very fascinating and cool to look at, research and examine.

I have no clue I have never heard of such a thing Taylor. Did you take a picture of the caterpillar to learn more about it? Maybe if you send me a picture (theinsecthunter@gmail.com) then I can at least help you figure out what it was. What plant was it feeding on?
