The show that they are spoofing is "Match Game." Shia is impersonating Doug Henning- a hippie magician who was big in the 1970's. Armisen is impersonating Paul Lynde, Also impersonated are Brett Somers by Amy, Fannie Flagg by Kristen, and Nipsey Russell by Kenan.
This show was from 2008, the detective is from the present, when it aired on SNL. The game show somehow slipped out of their time in the 70s, that's one of the reasons that everyone in the show is so disconnected.
@@tyrant-den884 You're confusing Movie Will Ferrell with Sketch Comedy Will Ferrell. Go back and look at Ferrell's run on the show, and it's clear that he was very malleable at matching various tones and comedy styles wherever he was needed. He was the wacky manchild type at times, yes, but he also played the straight man quite often, too. Every cast needs at least one. I'd argue Phil Hartman similarly filled this role.
This was one of SNL's best skits ever! Fred Armisen's take on the guy from Hollywood Squares is perfect and Amy Poehler's drunk lady with the hoarse voice was magical!
Fred's manic blend of Paul Lynde and Charles Nelson Reilly is so frenetic and wild. Amy's Brett Somers is a scream; she's clearly having a blast with it. I grew up occasionally tuning in to Match Game on TV and enjoyed its naughty humor; they got away with some stuff at the time. Shia here as Doug Henning is quite good. Henning was a magician who had a Broadway show in 1974 (titled "The Magic Show" ... how creative, LOL). Martin Short did/does a fun impression of Doug. And, yeah, it's very strange having Bill play the character who is not a big personality-- considering he is a wiz at celebrity mimicry.
Oh yeah feels like such a long time ago but are just 10 Years. Heck even Megan Fox was really hot and cute then... and Rihanna started her career.. How ppl and life can change in just 10 Years wow
I saw Doug Henning in his wonderful "The Magic Show" on Broadway and he was exactly like Shia portrayed. Our family ran into him in the parking garage after the show, and he still had as huge a smile and magical personality as he did on stage. He passed away in 2000 and is missed.
Can you tell me what happened to him? Everyone is talking about how he changed and shit but I don't see it. When I see his face I just remember transformers and how cute he was..
he just did a lot of crazy shit. He stole an idea for a shortfilm and then he tweetet everyday "I'M NOT FAMOUS ANYMORE". then he was at the Berlinale Filmfestival with a bag over his head and also got arrested, I think... And a lot of other weird stuff happened. Don't know if he had drug problems or something.
***** actually he´s just done the usual over the top bullshit moves that everobody is capable of and alot of people do every day over the world, the difference is he is/was/whatever famous so people like you can judge him on the internet

Ah, the 70s. RIP, Paul Lynde and Charles Nelson Reilly, you hilarious old queens.
The same, I'd have to stay in bed, but I had a little tv in my room and always made sure to watch Pyramid (I think it was only $10K then), Hollywood Squares, Let's Make a Deal, Newlywed Game and Match Game.
Well slap my ass and call me Jenny, you are absolutely right. Hadn't realised it before reading this. And what a movie it would be too, all we would need apart from that, is someone to portray an idiot with a flare gun to burn burn the place to the ground
When Shia came into mainstream recognition back in Constantine and iRobot I believed that the guy had the chops to be as good an actor as some of the best in the business, he had some missteps along the way but I think now he's on his way to proving me right.
Some of the greatest SNL actors randomly together in a very silly and hilarious skit. The sole tolerable appearence of Shia LaBoeuf on... earth. This is just perfect.
This sketch really caught the essence of Match Game. Amy did so well as Brett Sommers and the guy that played Paul Lynde cracked me up. Shia LaBeouf is a pretty good actor someone should put him in a movie.

Underrated comment.
Thank you :)
Kristen doesn't look like Paula Poundstone in this
I think Kristen might be Marcia Wallace
fuck you..............it's an impersonation of charles nelson reilly, not paul lynde................paul lynde was never on the match game
Shia looks like Inigo Montoya
That’s what I was thinking!
He kill my father......prepare to die!!!🤣😂🤣😂
He is identical to magician, Doug Henning.
or Frank Zappa
I was just about to comment the same thing before I saw your comment 😂
Shia is actually pretty funny
He's very very funny
He was hilarious on even stevens
duh?
When he's not being a crazy person.
yeah he didn’t just get on evan stevens family because of his boyish looks lol 💕
i think his whole ploy was to act innocent and hide in the body bag, so when they find his DNA he can say it was because he was laying on him.
Big brain thonkin’.
this show was in the 70s. DNA analysist for crime wasn't exist or even sanctioned by justice dept as legal evidence back then.

So weird seeing Hader being the straight man.
Right?? V strange
Is it? I feel like Hader proved himself the most versatile utility player the show had since Will Ferrell. He could do pretty much anything.
