This was always intended to be an easy sipper. If you listen to Matthew talk about it I think you will find it is pretty much what he describes. This has more flavor compared to the 101 IMO. I love this stuff!
John Gajkowski Yeah, it's for sure an easy sipper and we look forward to resisting it, maybe on one of our live shows, now that it's been open for a bit. Maybe it's opened up and we'll enjoy it more
I don’t think you all are the target audience for this product. The average consumer is not looking for barrel proof super complex stuff. Something easy to drink that’s not boring and feels slightly more upscale kinda like Basil Hayden. I think it’s a good move by Wild Turkey.
I saw this on the shelf in Northern Indiana for $30.29 and went for it. Glad I did. The first couple of sips brought a peppery heat, but mellowed out to a smooth sipper within a couple of sips. I found Longbranch similar to Barton 1792 Single Barrel in this sense. I think this is a good bourbon that can stand on its own or very good in an Old Fashion. Thanks Chad and Sara!!!
Just opened my first Longbranch tonight and I REALLY like it. Almost embarrassed to say this, but this is my first Wild Turkey product. Spicy sweet upfront with a soft finish with lasting caramel. Just a little smoke and char in the background. I like my bourbons and whiskeys under 100 proof and I sip Irish whiskey more than anything else. Longbranch may be my new favorite when I'm out grilling. Picked this up on sale for $29.99. Love your channel!
I saw this for the first time in our area of Pennsylvania on Friday night and bought a bottle. I tasted it and liked it. Then I thought that you had a video about it. Looked back and found it. My nose and palate aren’t as sensitive and developed as yours. Couldn’t get the lemon peel that you described. My take is that I like it. It is a little more expensive. Feels a little buttery to me. I do like 101, too. But my mood changes and so does what I pour each night. I’m glad I picked it up.
Honest review, you guys! Well said. Thank you for the nose and taste insight. Sounds like it needs ice and an orange slice in an Old Fashioned glass. Thanks Sara! ;)
It seems like the entire review focused on proof, taste be damned. That harkens me back to college kids whose favorite beer was the strongest - in my day, that was the "Ice beers." I am not a bourbon guy, I prefer rye, but I bought some of this and LOVE it.
Thanks for the great review. I enjoy the Rare Breed as well. Never tried the 101 but I will soon based on your recommendations. My bourbon pallet is similar to yours. Cheers from a warmer Chicago.
Hello - great review! This is the first time I've watched your channel and it's so great I subscribed. So now it's you guys, the Whisky Vault, and of course: Ralfy.
@@busterspark4410 i was seriously just at the liquor store and i couldn't decide this or Angels envy... Will definitely have to go back and get it next time and compare
I have a bottle on order so have not tried. my bottle is only $35.00. another channel said bitterness could be coming from the mesquite. not quite sure if that is the case until I try, but in using mesquite when i have made BBQ before, I think that it could have a little bitterness to it but you usually would add a sweet sauce to the meat that would negate that. I'm thinking if Longbranch was 10 years old, more like 94-96 proof or even 100, and still in $40 range that could do the trick. maybe they can continue to work on it. love that bourbon makers are trying new things, as well as sticking with what they are good at. you are right, WT 101 is a great and very affordable product, but this is cool too. cant wait to try it. thanks.
Reminds me of Aberfeldy 12 year. Its not bad but there's nothing thrilling about it either. A good one to share with non-barrel proof friends. Cheers, love the channel.
You guys are Crazy, and that's why we luv ya... I can tell your really tryin to like it! I'm going to go get a new bottle of 101 and try to recapture a good evening from the 90s ✌
Having tried this with my father recently, I was thinking a barrel proof or high proof single barrel selection for one of these could be wonderful. I am also of the mindset that I would get WT101 instead and maybe use this bottle as something to ease a person into whiskey drinking.
I remember this was the newest episode, so before watching it I went and got a bottle of it and drank it while watching and getting the notes with y’all lol
I am with you in regards to the proof for the price point... I am pretty new on the bourbon drinking but I really like the 101. It is easy on the wallet and it is complex enough to drink it neat or in a cocktail. I think you both do a great job on presentation and illustrating the bourbons you review... I still have Buffalo Trace as my number one, even though it is only 90 proof but I like WIld Turkey very much their distillery is one of my favorites of my bourbon trail bicycle tour....cheers.
Looks like the price has come down in the last couple years. I was able to get a bottle in Ohio for $32. I know it's not for everyone, but I really liked trying a good bourbon on the other end of the spectrum.
First off let me thank you both, been exploring bourbon more due to it being difficult to get good scotch at a lot of the bars in find myself in. I actually had both longbranch and rare breed last weekend. I agree that longbranch is a very easy drinker and I really like the smokey thread in it, but rarely breed was like a very high quality French Vanilla ice cream loaded with red hots candy. The difference between them in my opinion would depend on the night, relaxing with nice easy bourbon, longbranch. If you want a bourbon to slowly savor, rare breed definitely fits the bill. Thank you again for all your help any other suggestions are greatly appreciated
Its different, yet delicious. It's a nice change for Wild Turkel fans. I love this on a rock with a lemon peel or in my old fashions so much I bought case.
I think i will try it !..haha.. I like high proof as well...my first wild turkey was a rare breed which is wicked good. Then a co worker bought me a 81 and i liked it too.. sometimes a lower abv is nice ! cheers ! and i have been watching you folks for a while just not a big commenter. haha. Keep up the good work !
Longbranch is obviously a hit here in South Alabama. Checked three liquor stores around the county, all sold out. I picked up a bottle of 101 instead. It was good, but not the same.
Nice review and love the bottle closeups. It was because of you guys that I ended up trying wild turkey. I too got the bitterness but it was on the finish for me and I like it. But then again I enjoy strong black coffee too. so maybe that's why. either way I'm enjoying this whiskey. Cheers!
Great review. Thank you! The review felt very objective and you twos like the WT. So to give this a less than favorable review speaks to your integrity as reviews. I always turn to you two for reviews when I see something new, and most of the time we see eye to eye... except Corner Creek... that stuff is great! Great Job, keep it up.
I like this. So if it's a straight bourbon.. What us the "refined process".I didn't think you could add any process to the bourbon rules.. Such as charcoal filtering
The mesquite and oak charcoals are added to the barrels for flavor. Much as Jack Daniels cannot be called bourbon because it’s filtered through sweet maple charcoals. It can’t be called a bourbon if anything is done outside the barrel or anything other than whiskey (wood) is in the barrel
I re discovered Turkey (81 and 101) and really enjoy both . When I heard about Longbranch I was really excited. I was expecting to hear more of a mesquite flavor. But with this review, I'll have to agree with you "My Bourbon Journey" I'll stick with 101. Not paying the MSRP of Longbranch
It's okay. I am drinking it now, I love the smell. I am experimenting with Bourbons as I tend to prefer scotch. I will try this once a week to see if the flavor changes over time. The back end notes fade quickly for me, but i prefer to Woodford reserve. I also purchased Elijah Craig, and may get an old forrester next
been waiting for this here in oregon, haven't seen it yet-- I was hoping for a rare breed like taste with a little smokey kick and at least 100 proof, but still I will try it out.
I've noticed that everyone's taste and preference is so varied and affects these reviews. With long branch; one tastes lemon, another tastes cherry, another (Mcconaughey) tastes sweet smooth and smoke (Which all put together sounds like a whiskey sour-yum!). I think I'll buy it and hope it tastes for me what the makers say they were going for.
Wild Turkey in general knocks it out of the park, I like WT 101, Longbranch & Rare Breed both on the rocks or in an Old Fashioned. Im bummed my bottle of Longbranch doesn't have Director Mathew Mcconaugheys signature on it? 🥃Cheers
I'm a big fan ot Wild Turkey I'm gonna pick up a bottle of this and see what it's about. I'm pretty excited I love adding different batches to my collection, if it sucks I'll just old fashion it.

It's "refined" in mesquite and oak "charcoal", so seems unlikely. I'm guessing they just pour it through a bunch of mesquite and oak charcoal chips before bottling.
I have been liking your reviews more and more....perhaps thats the bourbon talking LOL...seriously you guys are great! I am a novice to the bourbon world but I have had many in the $30 and under range. The only one I have tried in $40 and up range has been Longbranch and I love it.

It's my favorite bourbon to date. Lower proof doesn't always mean lower quality. It's good stuff and the only way I drink it is neat or on the rocks.
Exactly, people that bash it just don't understand what it was intended to be. Glad to hear there are people out there that can use their noggin.
I don’t think you all are the target audience for this product. The average consumer is not looking for barrel proof super complex stuff. Something easy to drink that’s not boring and feels slightly more upscale kinda like Basil Hayden. I think it’s a good move by Wild Turkey.

I literally got a bottle of this today. They only had one so I'll be putting it in my collection. Thanks for another delightful review :)
I just like that McConaughey has his own whiskey and its Kentucky Bourbon with Texas influence....
Honest review, you guys! Well said. Thank you for the nose and taste insight. Sounds like it needs ice and an orange slice in an Old Fashioned glass. Thanks Sara! ;)
Thought I Knew all that Wild Turkey has to offer, but this one escaped me. I am a huge Turkey 101 fan.
It comes to market May 1, so it hasn't escaped you yet!
It's only new mate, dont fret!
It seems like the entire review focused on proof, taste be damned. That harkens me back to college kids whose favorite beer was the strongest - in my day, that was the "Ice beers." I am not a bourbon guy, I prefer rye, but I bought some of this and LOVE it.
Review was spot on. Marketing is outstanding. Something to try at least once. I do appreciate bourbons outside the box.
Got a glass right here. I like that it is quite dry for a Bourbon, not overly sweet at all and hot on the tail. Get the lemon too...
This is a nice, easy sip for me. One of my favorite in an old fashioned too.
I love this bourbon, It is really smooth.
It is great for bourbon drinkers to have more options. I know myself WT 101 is my personal go to but I do enjoy trying others just to enjoy life.
That McConaughey impression came about nine and a half minutes later than I expected.
jmwillsey I tried to fight it. I failed.
Thanks for the great review. I enjoy the Rare Breed as well. Never tried the 101 but I will soon based on your recommendations. My bourbon pallet is similar to yours. Cheers from a warmer Chicago.
Very smooth, very light but plenty of flavor. Which is usually thought to do at lower proof
Hello - great review! This is the first time I've watched your channel and it's so great I subscribed. So now it's you guys, the Whisky Vault, and of course: Ralfy.
blahmehmeh Thank you! Glad to have you aboard!
Mathew McConaughey discussed that he wanted a bourbon he didn't have to drink with an ice cube or add any water to hence the proof
That makes a lot of sense!
Someone should pour him a glass of Angels Envy then. Probably the most drinkable bourbon I’ve ever had at least.
Exactly why I drink it neat

Mesquite gives off a pine / grapefruit smell when burned. I'm guessing it gives that citrus note to Longbranch.
Ryan McCann Yep, good call on that.
Thanks for the great review! Have a Rare Breed and Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel waiting in the wings. Cheers Chad and Sara! 🥃👍

This comment aged didn’t age well haha
I found this on sale by me for $34, It has a different kind of twang, like sweet corn, must be the mesquite? It’s quite good
Great review Chad and Sarah👍🏽😎🥃 been waiting to try this one.
Jack Daniels is charcoal filtered before barrel entry, but I believe only Gentleman Jack is filtered again after it is dumped from the barrel.
When is Dickel filtered?

It's Bourbon Night hey I'm from indonesia, i just started drinking whiskey, can you recommend me a god bourbon that available worldwide..?
Personally I like it to me very smooth and has that WT finish.
I've tried a number of decent bourbons under $50 and this is probably my favorite.
Good review.
Wtrb at 116.8 is fantastic and just 5 bucks more than longbranch so I'm sticking with rb.
Thanks! I was wondering how this one came out. Sounds like 101 for now.
I've been drinkin this for awhile. It's worth havin a bottle for sure. Not always about the proof, but about the flavor and character.
I totally feel you about the 81 proof wild turkey. I was disappointed I have been a big fan of Wild Turkey 101 such a good flavor.

I don't think he's the creative director anymore so they probably removed his signature.
Can you guys please review Wild Turkey Master's Keep Decades? Thanks.
This is $22 near me. I might have to pick up a bottle and check her out. Thanks!
I gotta try it... I love a good old fashioned. I bet the Mesquite is giving it that bitterness? That wood smoke is so strong and pungent
I'm a big fan ot Wild Turkey I'm gonna pick up a bottle of this and see what it's about. I'm pretty excited I love adding different batches to my collection, if it sucks I'll just old fashion it.
Just came back from the Dominican Republic and got a 1L bottle of Longbranch for 40$ US (55$ Canadian).. A good friend of mine got me a bottle of WT101 that I have not opened yet as is unavailable where I live... That means I will be able to try them both with the original WT... This will be very interesting... :-)
I've been curious about this one. I tried a mesquite smoked whiskey once that tasted like tequila. It was horrible. So I've been reluctant to try it.
Has a nice chewy mouth feel.
How I see it is , they wanted something that the Lincoln buyer such as Matthew portrays in commercials would drink. After three tumblers I really appreciate smooth frontal with bite in the end.
Do they have a higher proof? Be a whole lot cooler if they did.
Revisiting - a year later. I like that I can session drink this. With 101 every shot say here goes another billion brain cells.
What was that at 6:47? ☺️

Oak barrel with mesquite staves????
It's "refined" in mesquite and oak "charcoal", so seems unlikely. I'm guessing they just pour it through a bunch of mesquite and oak charcoal chips before bottling.
Bourbon, whiskey, scotch, who cares, let's drink!

By the commercial stand point, they tried to get the point across that long branch is a welcoming gesture, something friendly. Targeted audience, friends and family who don’t really drink whiskey.
We don't have this in Canada, boooo! Oh, by the way, love your channel! To bourbon lovers, wherever you may be!
Thanks!
I agree, a good tasting bourbon. Must be the 'mequite' wood listed on the label - (oops, you would think that somebody would have caught the spelling mistake on the labels)
Presentation point, it is a good lookingame bottle.

This bourbon tastes a little Jack DanielsE, if you know what I mean.
Banana, vanilla wafer, very smooth, easy drinker. Great bourbon! Love the videos.
I like it.. Good uncorking!
WHEN will this be released in Canada?! Oh the waiting......
