    Hey friends, I just wanted to leave a note about the metal sandpaper scrubbing starting at 8:58. I have received some good feedback about less abrasive methods for dealing with rust, and want to try experimenting with those. Due to scheduling this project with Tronicsfix, I actually filmed this video a while ago. Just wanted to say something cause I feel bad for replying “oh yeah good idea” to those comments, then moving forward as if I’m not really listening. 😊

      after sanding the rust off i like to seal it with clear nail polish. ive never had rust come back.

    This has become my favorite restoration channel. You strike a good balance with everything; the music, narration and editing all feel like just the right amount of each. Just a really pleasant experience

    You always do a great job of cleaning without all the uhhs, yuks, and so gross - Steve always manages to express during a teardown of a bug invested console. 😆

    The most underrated console of all time. I had one, and Shenmue was the game to go to. It was so advanced for its time and i absolutely regret selling mine. Great clean up :).

    I came here from the tronix video that he said he was gonna send you the purple switch lite that looked like it had gotten eaten. I didn’t see your video of it yet so I thought I’d stick around for this.

    @dkoldies THIS is how you clean and refurbish an old retro console 😉 and @tronicsfix replacing capacitors and fixing the disk drive. These guys are SHOWING you how to run your business 😂

    Great video. You're going to hate this, but I think you but the spring on "backwards" at the end of the video, for the CD bay cover release. I think the wound part of the spring is supposed to rest in the gap in the slider and not on the screw. I love your videos - it's so nice to see these consoles get some love and return to "like new" condition. Keep up the great work!

    You got a good one, most of mine need the UV treatment from the bromine yellowing effect

    As the drive isn't working, you could replace it with a SD card reader solution.
    At least then you don't have to mess with discs.

      Hey, I have a question about that, I was wondering about the SD card variant that you insert in the serial port at the underside of the GC does that thing require a disc to work? Sorry if this is a newbie question but I truly am a newbie to the whole modding scene :)

    You ever use peroxide and UV light to lighten yellowed case covers?

    • @mugogrog
      @mugogrog 11 месяцев назад

      He stated in a previous video on why he doesn't do that on the channel. He simply decided that he wanted to keep the cleaning down to things anyone can do with inexpensive items. That's the gist of it I think.

    I wouldn't bother messing around with a new laser (if you can even find good one's anymore).
    Stick a GDEMU in there and job's done.

    You can use IPA to clean off those marks on the outer shell instead of the magic eraser.

      I actually just finished working on a project where I tried this on the glossy part of a white PS4 case, and I can see myself moving more in that direction

    The Dreamcast was really a good repairable and from the beginning cost optimized design. A shame Sega ended building devices.

  • @andychamplin
    @andychamplin 10 месяцев назад

    I'm no expert, but I do know that the PS1 and the Dreamcast used the same era of disc drives. They may not be 1 to 1 so a swap may not be possible, but you might be able to deconstruct a working disc drive from a non working PS1 and replace the part that is bad. That is something to try.

    I had a Dreamcast in college. Spent literal weeks downloading games on dialup because there was no way to get games within a few hundred miles of where I was at school at the time.

    • @RynoDBones
      @RynoDBones 10 месяцев назад

      And eBay back then was money order only so soonest you could get a used game was like five weeks, and there was always a 33/33/33 chance you would get nothing/get broken disc (or a burned CD)/get the right item.

      1% everything would work out fine.
