  • Jarrad VK3BL uses affordable test equipment to demonstrate the difference between proper signal splitters and T Connectors.
We then put the MFJ-1708SDR to the test, proving - just like the circuit diagram suggests - it is nothing much more than a 'Switched T Connector'.
It is another example of MFJ releasing a product 'just good enough to work', but not make it into a serious Ham Shack.
We strongly feel MFJ haven't honoured their obligation to the consumer with this product, as using it will without doubt degrade the performance of both your receivers; it may even cost you an All Time New One 'ATNO' contact with a weak signal DXPedition!
All that said, it 'does its job' as demonstrated in other youtube videos, and disconnects the second receiver on TX; although most of us could do that ourselves with little more than a relay.
We recommend anyone using these ensure their SDR is a quality make, such as the SDR Play line up, rather than a cheap 'RTL-SDR' that will introduce 'birdies' into your quality transceiver.
We also strongly encourage people to disconnect the device when they are undertaking weak signal work, such as DXing.
We apologise for the long video, but it is a complicated subject, and we hope we've explained it well.
