  • Hi everyone,
    This is my video of opening DSG 6 speed gearbox, this is 02E code gearbox and it's been used in many VAG group cars, Volkswagen Golf, Audi, Skoda, Seat.
    please note- The way I disassembled all is only for reason there was no repair done on gearbox, if you need to open gearbox and do repairs do all same way just flip gearbox down to rest on bell housing, so that way all gears will stay down onto that housing.
    This gearbox was leaking on clutch pack cover seal, and run on low oil, as previous owner didn't do maintenance well.
    I disassemble whole gearbox to see how it looks and will keep some of the parts as spare in case will need in future.
    Thanks for watching

    This way as I watch it doesn’t look hard to do at all!

      Hi,
      Yes it is complex, I started and continue stripping gearbox from bell housing side, but when the housing is split and open other way than it looks a bit easier to do any repair.

      Hi, yes that big bang or hit was coused by delay in shifting gears and no oil, so shifting would happen later than should and so clutch engagement not matching time too. Thanks

    Where do you get parts for these DSG’s? Pretty sure I have a problem with my diff, a there is a noise coming from it on decel in all gears. I don’t want to tear it apart until I know I can get parts for it. Thanks for the great video!

    • @out_of_service5844
      @out_of_service5844  2 года назад

      Hi, I would say brand new parts only from VW dealer, clutch kit and normal maintenance parts you can get in other aftermarket parts shop. Just when you are to do gearbox start opening gearbox with bell housing down, so that's for repair purpose, on this video was teardown and not repairs carried out so wasn't really important to keep all parts together.

      There are not a lot of "doctors" for this transimission. It is bad that you need to dismantle whole gearbox to replace inner filter. Complete service is over 300 euros to replace inner filter because it needs to be demounted from car and dismantled whole unit. And yet you have to replace outer filter and oil every 60.000 km and to pay over 150 euros. You have clutches and flywheel to replace at least every 300.000 km which is over 800 euros.
      I am driving Passat with DQ250, there is rattling sound but still going.
      The only smart way is to buy DSG under 200.000 km and sell it in next 5 years.
      The easier way is to buy auto trans with converter and just replace oil and filter.
      Other problems (mechatronics and sensors) i am not counting cause they can occur on every transimission.

    • @out_of_service5844
      @out_of_service5844  3 года назад

      Hi,
      The best quality is to use original VW DSG oil, OE oil is ofcourse most expensive, but if you put bad cheap oil inside than it can cost much more when something fails.
      Other than OE oil, so far I could find would be Febi Bilstein, as per Febi it is replacement of VW DSG oil.

    Hi, thanks for the informative video. I have a 2015 CC with the 02E trans. It all of a sudden stopped moving both forward and reverse. When I scanned it, I got a code P0716 (G182 implausible signal). Pls can the G182 cause the car not to move at all? Is there a way to check this sensor with multimeter. I have checked the connector and no physical damage, I have opened the mechatronic cover and the wire of the G182 looks good. before all of this, I have replaced the DSG oil and filter. Is there something else I can do? My car is 32000 miles. Thanks again.

    • @out_of_service5844
      @out_of_service5844  2 года назад

      Hi,
      Usually with this fault code set gearbox will be in limp mode, very often it drives but with big delay so you need to rev it up more than 2000 rpm to get it going, not recommended to do it.
      There was TSB for this fault code, so mainly there is connector not seating properly, wiring damage or faulty sensor, sensor has built in temperature sensor, so not really sure to test it with multimeter. Try to read parameters, so input shaft speed and temperature sensor, if not reading I would remove sensor and than check the magnetic ring in gearbox make sure no metal filing there. If still giving fault, try new sensor.
      One thing contact your dealer and ask is there any open campaign for this fault as your car only 6 years old and low mileage.

      @@vincentmyrick9243 Yes, I took out the gearbox and found out the teeth on the drive plate are heavily worn and with metal filings around d bell housing of the gearbox.The drive plate was just spinning freely inside the gearbox. This drive plate also drives the transmission oil pump through a long splinned rod as well as the K1 and K2 clutch sets. Usually, the sensors-G182 rarely go bad. Good luck.

    • @connorb9097
      @connorb9097 2 года назад +1

      @@CM-ch5vc nah, I got a new one, still gotta fit it.
      I’ve gotten around it by putting it in Sport mode, getting up to speed around 60kmph, and going into neutral then into drive. It’ll skip the gear and go into 5th or 6th, then use shift the gear knob over the the left (RHD car) to lock it into that gear u til I reach a hill or something. If I fuck up and it starts flashing S and the wrench sign on my dash again, and I’m cruising, I’ll put the car in neutral and flick the key on and off (re stars the car while still rolling) and put gear shifter back into D
      The box usually selects 5th or 6th
      With your 2nd gear being out it actually might be easier for you to navigate this, as 4th gear is usually cruising speed, not really 5th or 6th haha

    • @connorb9097
      @connorb9097 2 года назад

      In your case I’d start in Sport, get off the line and pretty well floor it, you’ll have to use paddle shift to lock it into S1 (so it doesn’t try and change up to S2 and fuck up) then shift to neutral then back down to drive. First gear should get you around 40kmph, so it’ll shift into 3rd or above right away. Bypassing 2nd
      I put it in neutral again rolling up to a red light, then put it in sport just before I stop so I know the car has selected a gear and not done flashing wrench thing. V awkward trying to get off the line only to realise you can’t actually move
      Best of luck

    hey i have a question, my dsg metal pan (the first one you removed in this video) got damaged in an accident and upon replacing the pan and fixing all other parts that got damaged i get a code on the dash “transmission faulty” in Red and beeping. issue appears to be electrical, some of the white little wires on the plastic wire harness on mechatronic got a but pinched (there’s a total of about 18 really thin wires immediately visible upon removing metal pan) my question is, do you think those wires being a bit pinched would cause that issue? i am planning on replacing that plastic wire harness because it is omly $130 USD then if my issue isn’t resolved i will buy a used transmission (it is about half of the price of a new mechatronic) Also, my mechatronic appears to not have a clutch speed sensor or temperature sensor, i don’t know the exact name of it, would this also be a possible issue? or some vehicles don’t come with that sensor? i have a 2017 Gti Autobahn. In this particular case in video excessive play in flywheel made the input shaft of gearbox to have play. So than seal couldn't seal oil as shaft was moving a lot. In your case believe shaft has no play and you can get only cover where is integrated seal.

      @@CandyX1979 Hi,
      You can check my other video where I replaced gearbox and flywheel, aswell replaced crankshaft bearing which was in bad condition, In your case I would say you have oil leak at clutch pack cover seal, same as this gearbox had, but main cause which made seal to leak could be that small bearing in crankshaft so the shaft is not supported, I would say you have that issue.
      I would suggest you to first remove gearbox and see what damage is there and see what parts you need, you could find flywheel bad as well and so the best replace all of it once gearbox is out.
      The best case is that you find that shaft has little play and seal is leaking, than you will need only clutch pack cover and again to see small crankshaft bearing.

    has the flash of death been figured out where this transmission jumps out of first gear under takeoff and will not go into reverse at other times...VW says it is the clutch friction disk wearing in the wet clutch....but it does not do it in 3rd gear and we all know VW reputation is a piece of trash and liars...so thus the question here. If the clutch frictions were bad in K1 then you would have the issues in 3rd and reverse has nothing to do with friction disk....and even if so would be so little. Thus mainly solenoids, or bad forK connecting piece etc.??? Just was looking for clarificatoin as to why would jump or loose connection in 1st gear upon takeoff....it is very dangerous drivetrain!
