Ruching (Gathering) A LuLaRoe Julia Dress

Here's a simple way to add ruching (gathering) to a dress.
I would recommend measuring your dress while it's on to determine where you would like the ruching to start and stop. You may want to mark your material for reference. It's important to remember to only stretch the elastic as you sew it in without stretching your dress.
A couple other notes: My machine's lights work fine in person, but appear to blink when recorded on camera and my tension is way to high because my toddler rolled it up when I was looking (I typically sew with it set to 5 not 8.5)

How many inches of elastic do you recommend I cut if I don't want to go all the way to the hemline? I'm going to start 9 inches from the armpit.

It'll just depend on the distance from where you start it to the hemline and how heavy you'd like the gathers. Could you tell me the distance length between where you want it to start and the hemline?
