I think you either get it or you don't. But I loved it. No big brands, just guys doing there own thing. A lot of these hot rodders / engineers find it difficult to express themselves, on the salt they can let their achievements speak for them. Long let it live. One of the most special events in America motorsport.
Thanks for watching and agree on presence of real engine sound instead of music. Both still pictures and videos are captured on a Samsung S7 Edge mobile phone but despite the low tech equipment, it's actually possible to hear, when some of the drivers are missing a gear shift out on the track. So one can only hope we managed to convey the special atmosphere from the starting line of the Salt Flats.
I did the 130 mph thing in 2001 in my New Beetle diesel. Only got up to 116 in the standing mile, but impressed the hell out of a lot of people with the cloud of black smoke. Hilarious fun!
this would be so cool to watch there. Something about vehicles that are geared so high they can't even roll out. Like hearing round track cars, the cam is still so rowdy at 70mph it hasn't even smoothed out yet. Nothing sounds as cool as a huge hp boat going across the water with the engine under load. I'm sure this place is the same way. I get a little sweaty when a huge cube ground pounder rolls by, but hearing them flat out is so awesome. The amount of hp it takes to do this is astronomical. Torque is left with the push vehicle lmao
i can see this being really addictive. But it has to be a special kind of crazy to drive some of these vehicles that speed. I've been 60 in a t-bucket and knew I was gonna die!! The previous owner said he had it over 100! In a fiberglass bathtub big nope for me. I've got problems now. Building a 12-1300hp streetcar. I know what kinds of ET it should turn. What I'm having trouble with is driving an 85 Buick regal over 150mph lol
What's interesting about Bonneville is that even though the sun may be 100 degrees, the salt surface itself is cool because the water is just slightly below. Great walking in bare feet.
Accually I do give quite a lot to charity. That does not mean I have to don a hair shirt. There is much to look forward to. I have also been a public school teacher for 35 years, and if that isn't charity I don't know what is!
From my understanding the car was running a 2.0L Synergy v8 with a Weismann 8 speed gearbox. This was probably the year before they started running the Judd V10.
Bonneville needs to get with the times. The way these runs are filmed the cameras are quite a long distance away. Use drones at several locations and pan a quarter mile each!
Yay, no death rock, but no commentary either, like, it'd be nice to know things like speeds, cvlass and power, stuff like that. I think you'd do well to step it up, since you are ther eh! Love the engine sounds!
Did you happen to catch any footage of the 88 t? Only had 87.14 on the standing mile but was there to say this is where I started. Plan to stick with the 2,500 RPM limit as long as possible at least the 150 mark
@@michael49777 No not high, extremely high gear raito 1.12:1 -2.0:1 I was there 55T the math says I'll need a1.94:1 rear gear to go with my 2500 rpm limit, just to get in the 130 mph club. 2.44:1 final only yielded 87.14 on the standing one mile
nice , no crap music, just the best sound of all, engines. thank you

Imagine my surprise when I went to write a comment and found I'd already written one 3 years previously 🤣
thanks for sharing your film enjoyed the start line action with engine sounds rather than some crap music

Fed lille film I har lavet fra Bonneville - jeg SKAL osse bare derover en dag. En af de ting som er et must !!

I'm glad you got Bill Ward in your video. (Orange El Camino at 18 minutes) Thanks.

Nice video,I liked that view going to Bonneville is on my bucket list,Thank's for posting, you now have one more subscriber.
Take a gas mask with you Mafren. If you are downwind of one of those skanky diesels when it pumps particulates - you'll have cancer in weeks
So glad this is still up, its history! Should be saved and down-loaded much, for posterity.

Really enjoyed watching this! And listening to the roar of the vehicles.......
Aaaaahhhhhh, the sweet sound of horsepower with no distractions!
super video thank you
I really enjoy watching but it would be nice to know the speed
I have dream of going to this some day.

@@raymondo162 it's not a diesel you idiot, it's nitro methanol
Was this the year that the salt was as hard asphalt and all those records fell??
I love videos that have nothing to say.
Magnificent sport.
Marvellous clouds of carcinogenic diesel particulates...……..
9:42 Best sound
sounds like it was stuck in 1st
Chone Hi-rev was that a wankel?
@@talon0863 they don't have gears

The info on that orange El Camino would be interesting...
Would have been nice to have the times and speed
l would have to know how fast some of them were going...But good video....THANKS
I guess the fastest time was set by Team Vesco with more than 420 MPH, but you can find all results here saltflats.com/2017/Results_long_9-17.htm

Great video, RIP headphone users.
Man, I sure do miss this.

Read the class on the side of the cars.
Flat Earthers think that this place proves them right, even after seeing a car disappear over the horizon at 3 miles.
Thought the meet was two weeks.

Unfortunately not. Only a fraction of the material have been left out.
Wicked 👍
World of Towing.
At 8:58 that engine sounded like uh huh uh huh
Sounds a bit more interesting from 9:42 and I think that engine holds about 5 Bonneville records
Instead of wheels would it be possible to use skids keep the engine and instead of driver gears use fans like they do on air boats
I think that if I Gear my Tricycle right I’ll hit 50 mph.
man i gotta go now......
I feel privalidged to see this
Nice flag on the Kiwi machine.
What speeds did the cars make?
Results can be viewed here: saltflats.com/2017/WOS17/Schedule.htm
Not a single view at full speed . No speed available .
Yes . As soon as i can afford a camera & cross the Atlantic , no problem ...
1:0m the music stops thank f@k's - then we hear ENG's revving up wheeew lets roll
wtf not areal race day camera's not all down the track and inside cams sad
Thailand love mooneyest
Нахватает съемок разгона со стороны как в "Самый быстрый Индиан"...
the turbinatator looks like a 30 06 on steroids
Nice video! Thank you for sharing. Where can you legally drive fast in Denmark?
blew my bloody speckers up man!!
Why those machines have to be pushed to start?!
Even first gear is such a high ratio that it would be very hard for them to start going without being pushed up to speed.
Yup it would be too much slip/heat in the clutch.
what do they need a pusher truck for
MsJinkerson
The gearing is so low if they start with out a push they will lug the engine
Edit: that’s just my guess at least
They would burn the clutch out going from a standing start due to very low gearing...
High gearing......
sheesh, there's too many stupid people
Too high.
Way to much wasted time before they start their run. Need to edit it out. But still, thumbs up.
12 zillion on engine, but $9 camera on front bumper not worth it
Pushed becouse of high Gear ratio.
Nothing to do with gear ratio. High gear would make it slow off the line

aber hinter den sieben Bergen ; Thrust SSC - still the only car to travel faster than the speed of sound
Ahhh l'édition, un art qui se perd
Ditch the intro ''music''.
BOUT THE MOST BORING VIDEO EVER, YOU COULD HAVE SHARED SPEED AND TIMES. ALL I SAW WAS CARS. BIG FING DEAL.
Didn't you have brains enough to stop watching if you didn't like it.
The horrible music ruined this video.

Qe canal tan pedoro incompleto
hply crap that was some f'g annoying intro music......
All crap
skip the first minute or so of shit music
if you really want speed, why start with a stupid vehicle?
These cars have roots in street driven hot rods, so it’s not a stupid vehicle.
