22 years on eBay and last weekend was the worst we had ever seen. We have over 20K items for sale. Did less than $100 over the weekend. My theory is the SVB banking news led to people being afraid to spend money. When the government agreed to backstop all the funds on Monday the sales went back to normal.

Love history. Had my kids listen to the story of St Patrick yesterday. He was a slave in Ireland. He took care of the sheep. He did this faithfully for years. Then he heard from God to walk to a ship. When his slave owner refused to let him go he walked straight out the door and kept walking till he got to the ship. Many years later he returned to Ireland as a priest to tell about Gods love. This was a very druid lead country. Many miracles happened along the way.
As for his birth place. Like much of his stories. No one is 100% sure. But probably somewhere in Britain (Maewyn Succat) is what most believe.
    His story is amazing.

A little perspective I never truly realized when reading about St. Patrick…as well as anything in Ireland during 1100 - present.
Slavery in Ireland…was THE WORST the world has ever seen.
It was over three times as long as the US…and appx 4 times as many souls enslaved. They were enslaved in their own country as well as shipped across the oceans to far away islands.
Dude did all this during some of the worst times on Irish history.

As someone who still has a 50 hour a week career AND an EBay seller, I have realized that even though some resellers may be “full time” - and love not having a boss or a company dictating what they do, being a reseller is not all that different. We all kinda work for EBay and the other platforms. We are at the mercy of their glitches, fees, rules, etc- whether we agree with them or not. I hear myself saying the same kinds of things about the company I work for and what I disagree with as I do about EBay. The biggest difference that I see is that I get a paycheck, benefits, paid vacation, raises, etc- whether I agree with them or not. 😉 Don’t get me wrong- I would love to “work for myself” but right now, glad I’m not totally freaking out 😉

Been an eBay seller since 1997. eBay continues to mess with the algorithm. Take down 25-50 listings and sell similar to reengage the eBay algorithm. Consider selling some items with FREE SHIPPING and build the price into your item. I currently use promoted listing across every listing that I have. I send out dozens of offers daily, have multiple sales and Coupons that I send out as well. I sell sports cards and nothing has fallen off as much as that category, but I am down only 20% of the highs of 21/22. I list every single day even when I had Covid and was down an out. You need the consistency and the dollar volume to propel your items. I rank in the Top 10% on my items. I also fret when I get that one day of one item that sells for a few bucks, but is it because it is the second week of the month and the paycheck is spent. I have noticed that every other week I see a spike a lull and a spike. Keep grinding, I would never quit my day job to do this as a job, but I commend those that do.

It happens to a lot of sellers regularly, same exact string of events or very similar, always in 3s after days of low / no sales at the worst possible time. at this point I find it insanely hard to believe it's just an organic occurrence, I swear it's ebay creating these situations somehow, with the "buyers" being ebay employees, bots or whatever else but generally alt accounts buying items with the sole intention of returning them. basically an operation that turns return labels into an ATM. Whether it's ebay, usps, who knows but I swear something along those lines is definitely a thing. ebay has become a very shady and manipulative platform. Seller since 2002.

Not sure how many of your viewers sell on Amazon, but I’ve been on Amazon since early 2018 (seller fulfilled, not FBA), I’ve sold mostly books. My sales have been decreasing year after year, despite a large inventory…the problem I came to realize is that there is too much competition with other Amazon sellers (especially FBA sellers), and the bigger sellers race to the bottom on price as they don’t have to charge shipping with FBA. Plus, the Amazon fees are outrageous… doing my taxes this year and checking my sales and costs numbers….Amazon fees came out to over 60% of my gross sales. Now that doesn’t include the cost of goods, packing materials, my time, other overhead, the $40/month for the Amazon seller account. So, I believe I’m going to quit selling on Amazon…just split some of my Amazon inventory between eBay and Mercari…and continue to sell on whatnot.

I had a 45 hour period without a sale Feb 28-March 1. This has never happened in the past 8 years.
Then all of a sudden sales exploded. I had by best sales day, week and rolling 31 day numbers ever.
    It was crazy!
We settled in back to normal until yesterday. Crickets all day until 9pm. 6 high dollar sales came in before 11pm.

Good job on your sale Kevin! Something is better than nothing! I made one sale and the buyer cancelled. He made an offer and I accepted it (though I don't offer best offer on my item). He sent a message wanting the item by Friday. I told him I would upgrade shipping from first class to priority with no guarantee he'll get it by Friday. Reason, once the item is shipped, USPS would be in control.

January wasn't too bad, we just about hit our target sales. February, however, was terrible, the worst month in over 20 years of selling; 10 days had zero sales despite 1000+ listings, TRS, 100% feedback, markdown sales, promoted listings... We've not had a zero day for about 4 years--even when on 'time away'! Luckily, sales have started to pick up in the last few weeks.

Sales will bounce back towards the end of the year as many people continue to give up on the reselling trend. It's good that the economy is turning the screws on all the people who have been encouraged to resell over the last couple years thanks to the RUclips reselling community. Y'all have brought a lot of people into the game, but now people are probably leaving at an equal rate.
I don't get angry at RUclipsrs luring people into this "easy" money because the reality of this business will eventually come to light, as it has. Reselling is going back to hobby status for most people. My 90-day total is at an all-time high.

I've seen an uptick in returns. Just as buyers are looking for more deals by messaging and sending low ball offers they're also being more particular when they do spend money and therefore are more likely to send something back. It's a sign of the economy.

Being partially Irish myself and a red head, I can say St Patrick is about as Irish as Corned Beef and Cabbage. Both are assimilated Irish traditions. Patrick was a Brit of mixed descent (Roman and Britannia) kidnapped by the Irish and Corned beef was absorbed as a replacement by Irish immigrants.

Those stretched soda (pop) bottles probably came from the West Virginia State Fair which is held every year in Fairlea West Virginia, which is just close to the state line with Virginia. Many people from VA come over for the fair. Back in the 70's and 80's these were popular and sometimes come with colored sand in them. Pepsi has always been the soda of choice at the fair. It's not the festival it once was, but still worth checking out if close to the area in August.

If Tonasket gave you a bit of a pronunciation problem try the county it sits in, which is Okanogan, the name of the indigenous tribe in the area. It’s up on the Washington State-Canadian border. The town is named after Chief Tonasket of the Okanogan people.
I grew up in Michigan, so Indian (and French-Indian) names were part of my youth. Try this one: Michilimackinac, which is from an Ottawa Ojibwe name for Mackinac Island. It was always a favorite.

First of all…$204 dollars a day for a FULL TIME BUSINESS is NOT a good thing.
Secondly…why should he care what others are doing?!?!
It is NEVER a good idea to set your goals based off the failures of others.
      This is business, dude.
You don’t just keep being “thankful” for diminishing sales all the way as the ship goes down.

Chipped Mug Return: or, they sent you their old one. It happens. I’ve had a few items in the last 20 years that I am sure (but can’t prove) were damage claims where the item (or item photos of an item) was sent back that I don’t think was the one I sent out. Sometimes I now put a discreet mark on the outbound item with a UV pen, if I think it’s likely to happen. That includes expensive Anime and Video game discs. Even an unusual coffee cup.
