Absolutely love this channel. Makes me want to start all over again fixing and flipping boats. They're the only vehicles I have profited on and really enjoy the work.
Troll the automobile auctions. Troll the Power Sport auctions. They regularly have 1 to 3 speedboats. They are just the stuff we want when the deck is soft, and the gunnels are faded from the sun.
Can't wait till the first run out of haul over inlet. A cooler of cold beer on board, a bucket of chicken, 3 bikini clad ladies, and pure sunshine. 😊😊😊
I was wondering how you were going to get the resin to bond the inside of the foam matrix surfaces. I cracked up when I saw the trash can drafted into service. Good solution.
Great content I’m a marine mechanic in central louisiana meet you at Yamaha school I’m a long time watcher keep putting out the great stuff I really like the whaler project thanks
It depends on what foam is used. Closed cell won't soak up water. I think there's so much resin in the grids it provides a barrier. I used closed cell foam products on shower surrounds and it works great.
You fiberglass work seems kinda sketchy. One sheet of biaxial for the transom, little 2 inch strips to tie that back piece back in. !/2 foam. does seem very structural. Just saying...
Does anyone know if that foam will soak up water if there is a little break in the glass? I asked last time but guess he's got too many viewers to answer. Maybe other viewers have some experience with it. I bought a catamaran where someone filled the bottom of each pontoon with foam instead of having a regular bilge. Will it absorb water and become extremely heavy over time? Do I need to dig all that foam out and put in bilge pumps?
Eventually yes, even though it’s closed cell foam I’ve tore into many boats where it was absolutely trash. The best thing is to repair any cracks before that happens, water will get in there and the foam will not allow it to drain.
Thanks! Not looking forward to digging all that foam out, but better than breaking the boat on the travel lift if that foam is full of a ton of water. I think there is about a foot and a half of foam in the deepest parts of the pontoon. Do you think it would drain if I dug down to the hull in the deepest place and put a bilge pump there? Would it drain and get pumped out? Or do you think the foam will hold the water like a sponge and I need to remove all of it?@@reefslayer21
@@ninehundreddollarluxuryyac5958 if the foam is dry I would leave it and just make sure no water can get down there. That foam doesn’t soak water up like a sponge it takes quite a while till it starts to deteriorate
@12 mins I would not of put the mat over with uneven resin, some parts had very little resin soak. Andy from @Boatworks Today wil laugh his bollocks off, He made a vid how not too and you've just proved him right. Leave it to the pro's.
typically love the videos but this one was painful to watch. so many things just thrown together "good enough" style. Never rounded the edges of the blocks, never created fillets for the glass to sit over the blocks, lots of space between the final glass on the blocks and the reattaching transom fiberglass, you can literally see the fiberglass bending to the transom on the middle top screw. I hope he filled that in later but it wasn't on this video. You got squeeze out on the trailer tie down hook holes but not where the bolts for the engine will go? yikes....

Why type of foam coreing is that?

People are asking way too much these days makes it thought not impossible but man it's hard to find a deal 😪

Love it! Lots of hard work but it helps people like me learn some cool boat tricks.
Fantastisch vakwerk man !! hij wordt weer als nieuw
The air chisel is never anybody's first choice. Just hearing that sound brings back several bad memories.
I love watching your videos! Bro- please wear a respirator around that stuff, you’ll thank yourself years from now!
Currently rebuilding a Release 20 glad I found someone explaining some of the process and financial expenses with 1st hand knowledge
I certainly appreciate you showing the good, the bad and the ugly of it all..Thanks a bunch

Making diagonal cutouts of coosa board to fill the corners of the transom might have been better for overall support.
This series is gold!!!! Learning so much
Nice Work great videos
What type of coreing is that?
Took my Q!
Been there done that, super videos, keep up the good work.

I learned a new word: pooky. 😂. Thickened resin/epoxy. Who knew? 🤷🏻. A 60 horse…on a 13 Whaler?! 😮😳
thats plenty of HP for this comm. boat
@@aquasaltyfishing4933 agreed. I knew a guy with one back in Honolulu. He had a 2-stroke 25. PLENTY of engine for that small boat.
Getting ready to do the exact same work to a 17' Whaler, really helpful to see your videos on the job.
As always, great video, Dude!
Love this channel man!!!!
I see you finally got the sawzall blade. Makes it a lot easier, doesn't it.
When client work's slow have a side project to remain net positive
Make Technician Tuesday Great Again 😄👌
Also total man hour ???
Looking for a video on repairing a transom with flotation pods.
Have you ever made a video like this?
Daaaaang! Serious work
You fiberglass work seems kinda sketchy. One sheet of biaxial for the transom, little 2 inch strips to tie that back piece back in. !/2 foam. does seem very structural. Just saying...
You need an organic 3m filter mask when using polyester resin. The fumes and catalyst are very dangerous. 😮
Wondering the the total cost of this repairs demo .? Is the boat istill worth it ???
I'm still working on that video going over the cost break down
where did you get that zall saw chisel ??? I need one of them ... Thanks !!!!
Do you have a link to the foam you used to make the transom?
No, sorry, I just got it from my friend that does fiberglass, he had extra :/
Whats a project like this estimated to cost?
I like to no how much it cost you in the end to see if my project is worth it
Do you get the resin on your clothes or how to avoid. When I do a patch..it just gets everywhere on me.
Was the boat Worth the work in de end?

Thanks so much for sharing your experience. Any further insight into the nature of this foam is greatly appreciated.@@reefslayer21
About 10 years ago I used Seacast to redo my transom. It seemed to be OK, have you ever tried it?

WOW
Note to self never restore small Boston whaler lol looks like nothing but foam
