This is untrue. Out of all the expensive niche fragrances I own, not a single one of them has come close to the amount of compliments and affection that Sauvage Elixir has brought me. As fragrance nerds, we can become ego invested in our expensive, out of the ordinary type fragrances because they make us feel unique and special.. but I can say from experience that some things are most certainly popular for a good reason.

This reminded me of something that happened when I was starting the Master's program at University. I always wore the same basic perfume back then as I didn't really think much about fragrances back then, I think it was just Brut. I did, however have five or six perfume gift boxes that my dad had given me. These were the type that came with a bottle of the perfume and some other branded item like a toiletry bag or razor in a nice presentation box. I have no idea where he got so many of them, but suspected he hadn't paid for them, but had probably gotten them in the course of his job. Anyway, when I ran out of my usual stuff one day I didn't feel like buying more so I decided to finally start using these. The first ones didn't make much of an impact, but then I got to Safari for men, and my then-gf went absolutely crazy for it. It got to the point where I'd go to meet her and the first thing she did was give me a hug and sniff me (which I didn't actually mind). Then when I ran out, I went to the next perfume and that day when she went to smell me she got upset saying that wasn't my smell. I laughed it off, but she was a bit upset the rest of the day. The next day I went to meet her and she gifted me a box of Safari. She also told me that one day at her work some other guy came in wearing it and she got upset that someone else was wearing my scent. From that point on I always wore it while I was dating her. I figured it was doing it's job so why mess with it.

That Black Orchid is super incredibly powerful to me. I've had it 2 years and only wore it twice so far. It is an extremely specific fragrance for me. If it's cold outside, and I know I'm going to be out in it, I'll put that on. Perfect example, the first time I wore it, my wife and I went on a horse and buggy ride thru Indianapolis to see the Christmas lights. It was very cold out, and it was perfect for that situation. But I would never dream of wearing it in an enclosed, intimate setting. Not a chance. It's too strong. It damn near repulses me, AND I LOVE THE SMELL OF IT! 😄😄😄

I do avoid Savauge and a few others, but really it doesn't seem to matter here in Washington State as it seems like noooobody wears scents. Even girls rarely wear it unless on a date. The last two girls I dated didn't even own a fragrance.
Now I am guilty of owning an Aventis clone and it gets sooo many compliments. I also have a Layton clone and it does well too. Just got Khamrah Qahwa and Turathi Blue and they're doing great, compliment wise. I think the fact fragrance is rare here makes me get more attention for it.

I've just gotten back into wearing colognes after probably 20 years or more. I started with a cheap Calvin Klein 4-pack. I was wearing what I thought was a small amount, but while in a theater a few days ago, started smelling what I believed to be Obsession (one of the 4-pack, but not the one I was wearing). I began to get self-conscious, thinking it was me (I like Antonio's advice, and try to heed it: you should be discovered (because of your scent), not announced). Upon leaving the theater I realized it was someone else, as the smell subsided immediately, leaving me barely able to detect the other CK scent I was wearing (I really don't like Obsession, so I rarely wear it).

I highly believe that fragrances stink if applied to dirty, and unwashed skin.
Some people don't shower, or they think that they can get away from showering by spraying a fragrance.
And combining the dirty skin, and fragrance creates a bad scent.
3:28 I don't think it is Ambroxan. I wear Ambroxan EDP by itself, and women hound me over to know what I'm wearing.... Could be that people over spray Sauvage, and people get nose irritated from smelling the citrus notes.

First day I wore Y EDP at work. Before I even reached work I noticed I was with a lady from another office , getting off at the station. As we were about to enter the yard she said "Oh, that odour I can't stand it!". I thought it was some garbage nearby but no, she immediately stayed away from me and went around the building to enter from another door to avoid me, mumbling something. No one else commented on it, I have tested it at home , going out, it go little but positive attention. It's strong and perhaps she just didn't like it. Even if Y line is supposedly an office friendly line, I know only use it outdoors.
And no, I hadn't oversprayed. Maybe 3-4 sprays and I have a dry skin that 15 sprays of Terre, Explorer or Prada L'homme are hardly noticed even by the lady sitting right next to me at the office. And I also meet tens of clients everyday.

@@lullemans72 afterwards I actually just put a couple of sprays, it's indeed quite strong. That day I was thinking of putting 3 but maybe I used 4 (two under each ear and 1 in the wrists but sometimes because I don't want to rub it I put 1 on each thus 4).
I had applied at least half an hour prior because that's how much it takes me to get to work. Also, the comment was made outside, in the yard and the weather was pretty cold, December I think. It didn't smell that much in the office but I had washed both the neck and the wirsts before sitting at the office.
But as I said, I usually pull off 15 sprays of usual office EDTs and some EDPs with no one even noticing. So 3-4 on my skin is almost nothing especially during the winter and outside.

I sprayed Oud Wood on the back of my left hand, 1-2 sprays. Its ok, not really my thing, musty and old came to mind. Then I sprayed Sauvage Elixir, 1 spray on my right hand. For the next 2 hours it was all I could smell, and not just smell, it was like it had coated the inside of my nostrils. Sex Panther from Anchorman kept coming to mind. Its quite .... Pungent. I couldn't imagine someone wearing this in close quarters, especially not 3 or 4 sprays. Strength aside there is also the change that occurs on skin. JPG Elixir smells sweet to me but loses most of that sweetness on my skin and smells much more masculine, whereas on clothes the sweetness remains. Bought Givenchy Gentleman Boisee blind. Smells great on clothes, almost too sweet but becomes a baby vomit smell on my skin.

Most fragrances are awful to me. If they dont make me break out in hives, they trigger a migraine. Seriously, a little goes a long way. Other people should only smell your fragrance if they're hugging you

I miss, not being able to buy Hugo Boss, In Motion, eau de toilette, in my country., anymore. The one in silver and orange, round sphere. Only body spray, I got compliment from ladies. Use Paco Rabane, Millions, today. Both deodorant and eau de toilette. A bit too , eh.. sweet and very easy to overspray. And far to expensive, plus far too many use it. David Becham, Classic Blue is ok for daily use. Other perfume from same mark, I think smell like..... euch !

I really can’t stand Dior sauvage. I ended up giving my bottle away after awhile. There are a few colognes I wear, since some tend to bother my nose, but now I’m a fan of using oil. Oils like Egyptian musk or even the ones that imitate popular brands.

Kirke, Erba Pura and others with this DNA have not a good reputation. They are very loud and dry down into a very frustrating musk that stays for ages. They are often used by those ladies who love to hit hard on the trigger. I would stay away from this one. The other two are fine.

To me when it come to colognes, etc, it's not the fragrance per say, it is th strength, like the ph may be say 2 but how concentrated is it?
Regardless of brand. price, quality etc. again some times its the strength of the fragrance, not the PH level!
