Why has it taken me this long to come across these great videos!?!? Wow... stoked... you're a bad-ass Rob and this terrific information broken down in a wonderful way!
No, one of my absolute favourite drummers did NOT just drop a comment on my video! 🤯Dude. Thanks sooo much! 😃Wowzers
@@RobBeatdownBrown My fav online drummer meeting his fav drummer. What a thing to stumble upon!
I love that you realize that "music" is the language that unites us all, and you don't just restrict yourself to "Black" drummers, "Hispanic" drummers, or ANY drummers that play within a particular style. I love "Buddy Rich" "Dave Weckl" "Jeff Porcaro", as musch as I love "Tony Williams" "Nate Smith" "Manu Katche", and "Clyde Stubblefield" and "Chongito".... Keep it up.... I appreciate you, and LOVE what you do. :)
I’m so impressed with Rob’s ability to communicate with us “students “ and to break down complex riffs. Thanks Rob!
Terrific contribution to the Gadd fans of the world. Great relaxed teaching style and really clear slower version. Kudos. I subscribed.
Rob your pocket is amazing!
Sir, you are excellent. Both your playing and your explanation are hugely enjoyable. Thank you.
I first learned this lick after watching Gadd on Zildjian Day in New York. Probably 1986 or so. He did it, and so do I, with the left hand doing a cross-stick. Awesome lick!!! Love the "Give me some chicken and a biscuit" analogy... Brilliant!
My Goodness. I will never forget "Give Me Some Chicken and a Biscuit". I love the way you teach Rob
Steve Gadd shows this lick in the beginning of "Up Close" (drum video)! But he begins it with two extra LL ghost notes before the first hi-hat accent.
Awesome. I love adding to my vovab. Having spent a good amount of time working on different ways to use my 6 stroke rolls (hands, diffrent timings, and stickingd, between hands and feel etc...) This one came quick for me. Gotta love when practice pays off!
Yours are some of my very favorite videos, Rob! I've gotten something helpful from every single one. Thank you!
Thanks Rob very cool lick, Steve Gadd is the best, good instruction my friend.
Great job Rob! Great demo of the sticking & BDrum. Thanks, much appreciated.
Amazing lick Rob ! Thanks a lot for playing it in such a great way ! Reminds me of something Steve was playing with Will Lee !
Thank you so much, finally some one showed this! God bless!
Thanks, Rob. Keep cranking out the tasty vids. You are an inspiration, Bro.
Rob, great job of explaining this classic Gadd lick.
That's awesome! The saying definitely helps with understanding the rhythm, Thanks!
Thank you, Rob! This is an amazing lesson. You are an awesome drummer!
That was an excellent lesson. Thank you for sharing. Gotta practice this. Well done.
Thanks for another awesome lesson and showing this cool Steve Gadd drum lick! I've been working up my Funk grooves a bit more and now I'm going to incorporate this lick as well. Great video with an awesome teaching demo!
Great teaching bro. Easy to understand. Thank you so much
You're an absolute legend Rob! Thanks so much for this.
+5ynnoj Haha. Thanks, dude :)
Dude, you kill! Great job, awesome tutorials, thank you for posting!
Awesome video, Rob - thanks for making this! Enjoying your drumming :)
love your vids! you're so lucky you have space and awesome gear to practice with
So glad I subscribed to this wonderful channel!!!
What a great way to break down a lick. Thanks!
Your title of this "Gaddism" was worth the price of admission!!! Hilarious! Thanks for breaking that down!
Thank you very much for this Rob!!!
Drum on!!! You are a good guy,... "hey man"!!! :)
Thanks for breaking it down! I thought I had it down some time back but yours makes more sense.
Hey. Just recently subscribed. Been through as many videos as I can of yours. Love the way you really explain to the world how to do shit that we can't without boasting how good you are. This is a fantastic video and I reckon you have made this the easiest way to execute it. Gonna really work with your videos next year 2018. Happy new year Mr beat down 😎
Great lesson. Flutter lick is super cool too!
Thanks man! More of these plz
Hey, Great presentation. I just subscribed. I'm sure you have a wealth of knowledge to share. Thanks for the post.
Thanks for sharing that! Love the thinking about it in terms of rhythm as opposed to 16th notes.
Great!!! Thanks Rob!
Thanks for this Beatdown, appreciate it. Keep it up dude. Thanks again.
A great simple breakdown of a hot lick.....thanks Rob...
Great video. Thank you
I love it! ! thanks Rob!
thank you for that (and all your cool videos!)
Thanks, Rob. Cool lick, cool lesson. I subscribed.
that lick is in the Steve Gadd "Up Close Book" several times, but anyway, this is a cool lesson. And sometimes Steve Gadd plays this lick with a rimclick instead of snare and opened the hihat on the first stroke, sounds also great.
"Give me some chicken and a biscuit" classic- LOL
That is some beautiful playing Rob!
Smooth lick like you. Thanks for that. I have to show my students
GREAT lick and GREAT vid! Thanks Rob!
that's freaking awesome!!!! thank you!!!!!
Good to see a new one here. Great lick! Didn't know I was missing your channel. Some how I got unsubscribed to it and I don't know how or when....
Thanks Rob,. I enjoyed the way you broke that down & explained the lesson, especially the part about spending time with it, REAL SLOW - To get rid of any bugs :)
One of my favorite Gadd licks. So signature that I almost don't do it... but its SO cool
Cool way to remember the lick! Kudos dude!
I saw Gregg Bissonette run down this lick at a clinic in 1982 when he was just coming up. It was at a small drum shop near Cincy Ohio but it was recorded and I have it on VHS somewhere LOL! Nice breakdown bro spot on! I love this riff cause it can be applied to several music genres. It's no wonder why every producer wanted Gadd!
Thank you for transcribing this lick. It always was one of my favorite of Gadd, but I never seen anyone show how to play it. I think it’s that lick which Steve uses in Tom Scott “Dirty Old Man”.
"Give me some chicken and biscuit" so simple but genius man....the name will help me remember the sticking and the pronunciation will help me remember the rhythm...Thanks for the lick man
Thanks Rob. Awesome lick.
Wonderful! Thanks so much.
Great job, man, thanks a lot!
Thanks for the cool video!
Splendid!
Totally cool Rob! Gives insight into the likely origin of Kieth Carlock's signature para-diddle-diddle lick too.
Very cool!👍
Thank you Rob!!
Another great Lesson Rob Mate !
Yeah Man, thanx a lot!!! Great Video!!!
man I LOVE this stuff.. would have killed to play with a competent drummer like this (or Steve!!)
Gonna be practicing this for the next few weeks , thanks!
cool link, I loved it..very cool
Tune called "dirty old man" by Tom Scott where I think he does just this. Thx Rob!
Hey where have you been hiding. I like the lick but the way you take your time and do a say and play makes it fun to watch you. Thank you. I'm a fan. Jim from Jersey
Smooth touch buddy👍
Bueno, creo que ahora no queda gente sin mostrar este lick, Nice video men
Yeahhhhh man ...... great ! 👍👌
Sweet drumming!
Thanks for breaking that down brother!
Fantastic video Rob....I'm late to the party....but terrific groove!
What a great teaching method Rob. I love it. You've given me some tasty chicken and biscuits. Thanks!
Great work, Rob. I, too, am a Gaddaholic. You can also check Steve on his usage of paradiddles btwn sd, hh, and bd across the bar lines. Believe there is evidence of that on his NYC clinic live last year or year before. I'll research the video. - Dennis
Thanks man !
Found you by accident and man you have changed my drumming drastically!!!!!
love tht lick! wen i first heard him do it 😱
Holy shit I can’t believe Nate Morton commented on your vid! Honestly for real Rob you just lay it down about as perfect as Anybody can, and you just give Such great lessons and insight to all the layers of the instrument and groove. My teacher gave me this sheet music for this groove he knew Steve real well from Rochester and Eastman, i’m from Buffalo 40 minutes away got to meet Steve once at a clinic he is like Yoda of the drums
Thank you Rob...
haha! I love this! haha! Give me some chicken and a biscuit! I'm smiling like an idiot! Have a great weekend, Rob!
Thank you man. Such a gaddsim should be inspected surely
This is the shit right here! Been a big fan of Gadd's for a long time. Kudos to you Rob.
got it brother!! ... thank you!!! it only took 6 years to get it flowing smoooooth!!!!!! but worth it ...
Thank you!!!
NICE feel bro...could tell in a few notes you have crazy technique...so nice to see that relaxed feel and how to hit the hats musically. Loved how your ears grabbed onto this lick. I have a Rayford Griffin story on JLP's Fables with the same idea. Playing it slow...YES, Give Me Some Chicken in a Biscuit! Such a Gadd feel. ...now I'm off to Popeyes!
Gadd uses that lick constantly, a version of it is on 50 ways to leave your lover...Or, when you see him in the drum battle between Weckl, Vinnie C and himself ...:)...He makes it sound so sweet though...:)
not many people showing how to play this lick because not many people can figure out WTF he is doing for it... bonus points to you sir. great explanation i knew it was simple but just couldn't hear it right
cool stuff still love it!!
The first time I ever heard Steve play that was on "Dirty Old Man" when the Tom Scott New York Connection album came out in 1974 or 75. They came to Atlanta and played at the Great Southeast Music Hall. I got up from my seat and tried to get a better view of his right hand. His version is a little more aggressive, I think.
Thanks Rob.
thank you sir, very dope
Very nice. Great feel. Also liked the metronome joke.
That simple... love it
Thanks ....greetings from Türkiye
Once again, I'm late to the party!! Oh Well, better late than never! Isn't this just a paradiddle-diddle followed by 2 kicks, landing on the down beat at the end? I'm glad you figured it out for me! It is so hard (for me) to figure out detailed parts and sticking by just listening. Great party Rob, thanks for all you do!!!
