    I appreciate you showing yourself skating in them. I have so much dress shoes that I don’t use anymore and wanted to throw my chicago skate trucks on them (switched to riedell). I also picked up some unusable impalas that can’t fit my partner so more trucks to make customs with.

    Great! I've been building skates for a few years out of a horde of ex-rental pairs and parts that I acquired in order to start up skate classes in a regional town, and it never occurred to me to look for video's of the process to get tips! Then again, self-taught skate mechanics the hard way, is a good way to learn! My tools are limited to what I found in my Dad's garage..Damn, I definitely need a drill press, and the cleaning brushes! It'd make things sooo much easier! :-)

    After drilling out the rivets on riveted plates what kind of nuts/bolts do you replace them with? Can you replace old cushions? Can you replace an axel? Is there any place that sells cheap parts separately? Does the rustoleum hold up to wear? Is there a reason you didn't replace the hardware with new black hardware? How do you know the pitch of the nuts if you replace the axel nuts? What about the axel washers?

    Could you make a video about wheels, no one ...I can't find anyway....talks about size and what to use for what. Will a smaller wheel be easier for a beginner to learn to transition from front to back? What is a smaller wheel used for verses a larger 65mm wheel?

    • @freeflydenny
      @freeflydenny  5 лет назад

      Actually my next video was going to be on wheel size. I personally think the smaller the wheels the easier it is to move your feet around without getting tripped up. They are lighter as well so it almost feels like wearing shoes. I also can keep up with anyone so i dont believe they are slower either. They look pretty cool too :)

    • @freeflydenny

    Without words it is hard to tell, but the plate is centered on the heel, but the front is just a few mm to the outside from true center. If you don't do that the wheels aren't right under shoe. Outside will be flush to outside of wheel and the inside will have more than half of the wheel showing. It also helps with push when skating.

    hey, i‘m trying to turn Air Jordan 8 with a zoom Sole into roller skates. According to a skates shop owner here, it‘s 8mpossible, as the sole is not flat. But i feel like, if i can find the right plate, and modify it by drilling holes in the plate, where the shoe is flat(more centered than with plates i found so far) i can attach the plates properly and not have any problems. I was looking for a flat plate like you are using here, but wasn‘t really able to find one. I would need to have a place where the holey from the back are about 2“(5cm) from the back(i suppose i will have to drill these holes) from there, the flat area is about 6“(16cm) long, so if i find a plate that has that has fitting holes, perfect, if now, i would have to drill these too. I think that 6“ would give me enough stability, but finding a flat plate which is wide enough, is the problem i‘m facing at the moment. I‘m from germany and here aren‘t that many shops for skates. These that are here either have only complete skates or just a limited range.. Do you have any recommendations on where and how to find the right plate for the job? (i‘m totally new to this so really have no idea where to look) The shoes are size 10, which might give an idea on what place size would fit(?)

    Why did you try to save the boot/upper it looks like a handmade leather shoe with a goodyear welted leather soles and stacked leather heel. If the upper isn't in too bad of shape you should be to clean nourish/moisturize and polish like an old or new pair of Allen Edmonds. and even if it is in rough shape a cobbler could repair it.
