I’m glad I found this vid I been thinking about goin to college in my state just for basketball cuz it’s been my passion and also wanna develop my skills more if I had a chance just to even be on a college team I would be workin my asss off
I ain’t even asking for a scholarship as all I ask is to be on the team and show my talent commitment and dedication. No matter how many practices to the amount of playing time. We all know colleges are a business.
I played at a NAIA and my Coach did me the same way I didn’t get a chance to travel they call it travel squad lol I didn’t get a chance to travel but I did get the same gear as everyone else so that counts for something 😂
Do you know if they let you be on that squad if you’re not eligible? I transfers from another school and didn’t know I needed a certain amount of units.
Yo Brian, I enjoy watching your videos. I have one offer from a small D2 that’s out of state, and i’m not sure what to do. I’m a senior and i’m about to graduate.
Hey, I'm trying to walk on a D3 college program next fall. I've never played organized ball, but I practice everyday regardless of weather. After the holidays I plan on doing cardio and strength training as well. I'm an average dude 6'0 But I know I can ball if I can get on the floor. Any more advice
Playing pickup basketball will be your best friend. Everything you do during your practice need to be practiced then! Get confidence up and work on reads
Heyy man !! I love ur videos I got a question tho , if u play for a college program with no offical stats , if u basically play college jv ( I do ) can you go to ncaa d1 , would really love ur response
I want to be a walk on so bad I have passion and love for the game my senior year I was benched because my coach was playing favoritism and I never got an opportunity to play and I really improved my gave but I was just never given an opportunity to show what I could do
I’ve never played in highschool only because I played another sport in the same season as basketball. But they don’t have my main sport at my college, so I wanna do basketball. But I have the athleticism. Do you think it’s possible if someone has all the ambition and drive that you need (I played at a high level in HS in another sport. I know what it takes) but they never played on a team in HS ?
Sum pros didn’t play till 16/17. Dennis Rodman didn’t play till 23 I believe after he hit the big growth spurt at the airport. It don’t matter when u start imo it matter how good u are.
It is possible to get minutes without a scholarship, it’s just really rare for it to happen that way. Preferred walk-on spots are offered all the time though.
@@BrianThomasII okay for sure. Have you been an average rate of the time it takes for a walk-on to get offered? Just taking into account the walk-ons that you actually saw get offered.
@brian Thomas ll I'm 17 and only played 1 month of organized basketball and I want to be at the next level what will be the most efficient way to get their?
I’ve made my highschool team every year but I’ve never played in a single game because an injury has occurred right now I’m in college and going to do a walk on
@@Kingpat-yt that’s the same plan I have . I wanna walk on to a low division school and gain experience so I can tryout for the G league . or at least play overseas
I’m 20, graduated 2020, stopped playing basketball in middle school and spent highschool taking care of my mom and little brother. I’m gonna enroll and try to walk on and Ik it’s a near impossible goal but I’m dedicating my 24/7 to this. You’re around my age I’d say give it your all and go for it. Be hungry for it. Nothing hurts more than an opportunity missed when you could’ve made it
Wsp, my name is Devon Johnson. I was watching some of ya vids and they became very helpful with my process. I'm 23 and I believe I still have 3 years of eligibility left to play. I haven't played basketball under the whistle since 2017. Everything after that year was intramurals. I'm so motivated to play again. I don’t really care about going D2 or D3. I just know that I want to play for the right school and a school that WANTS me and believes in me. Any advice about walking on at a school?
If you are serious about this I wouldn't look for a walk-on spot rather send film out to colleges of all types and see what they tell you. Market yourself to the teams. Get on a NAIA school or High level juco. 2017 was a long time ago and that is the only concern.
Realistically how good do you have to be to to walk on? Im tall, have some bounce and post skills and my biggest strength is rebounding and passing. My perimeter defense is bad and in high school i started but did not average a high amount of points. If I were to buckle down and fully commit to this how good do I have to be to get a chance on making the team?
Hey Brian, another banger vid as always. I am going to a college with no basketball history whatsoever is it still possible for me to tryout for the team and make D1 and possibly make the NBA with my raw talent?
I’m communicating with the coach from a college I’ve been accepted to and he likes my game it’s just the film I have sent isn’t enough so being a walk on does anyone think my chances are higher now that I know he’s watching I just have to show out?
D2 would be worth it, I play development and depending on where you go its just juco but your two years of eligibility go to waste, if you go naia development make sure they have a good development system to play d2 or up your junior/denior year
I’m 6”8 no basketball experience 18 years old trying to walk on at USC. I’m willing to do anything because hysterically after 18 years and tons of people trying to get me to use my size I’ve realized I have a gift that I NEED to use by all means. Any tips on how I can make it happen?
Learn how to play how the coach will want you to play. At 6'8 your coach will expect you to be an under the basket rim protector and post scorer, so focus on the fundamentals and worry about the advanced shooting skills and dribbling until you have the big man skills down. With your size and at least a decent skillset you could make it.
I'd start at a local juco nearby or find one that needs players because you're more likely to play on the team. Develop your skills there and then transition to a higher level. That's just thinking practical, to be honest.
at 6’8 college coaches gonna love you at power forward/small forward, but you should be able to play all 5 positions. Best advice I could give to you with bookoo d1 friends and family members, exposure is everything. Walking on is like the job hiring process, for one you have to show you have skill, so you would need some form of practice/game footage to show you are a good piece they would need on their team. Second, try to find any professional/nba skills basketball trainers in your area, if not, grind daily, like it’s your last resort, at the gym and train yourself, watching as many youtube videos for different handling drills, shooting drills, conditioning workouts etc. i could list a couple i have that have personally helped me if you remember to come back to this comment section. Another thing that’s mandatory is get in contact with the coaches, email them, or find yourself some connections who know the coach or coaching staff personally. If you put it into your mind that this is like you need to put food on the table for your family, then you can do anything, you need that DAWG mentality. Pretty much make basketball your life, and you’ll do fine. This is usually my workout schedule Mondays - Handles in the morning, then finish your workout with making atleast 100 mid range shots. Take a break then finish the day with cardio in the afternoon Tuesday - Start off with making 3-pointed 100 shots, then go into drills for footwork etc. End the day with a light weight workout (arms legs whatever you feel like) Wednesday - Cardio (running up a hill or incline/stairs cardio) then after cardio make 100 3-pointer shots Thursday - Handles, and other in-court drills, (make sure your practicing everything game speed, so full fast pace) then end the day with 50 mid range jump shots Friday - Practice layups, do full court back and forth 12 times practicing variety of layups, off hand, etc, make 50 free throws, then end the day with weight training. You could either use your weekends as a break or designate weekdays as a break day, like wednesday and friday and exchange those workout days for the weekend. A good cardio workout i suggest is 17’s, go to the side of the court and run down and back 17 times, you should be able to do this at like 35-40 seconds for the college level. Another good cardio for basketball is suicides twice back to back.
@@nuunie17k15 I appreciate this so much man you don’t know how you’ve helped me. I was just about to throw in the towel then I looked at my phone and saw you and others positive comments. I think that’s a god given sign to keep going. I’m gonna do your workout it’s just when I play in pickup games my court vision, reaction, and jumping ability is bad so I have to work on that.
