The best review of one of these Yamahas I've seen. Considering this is a "silent guitar" no one else plays it unplugged to give you a sense of what it sounds like with headphones in. At least you did that, so thanks.
Mine uses a 9 volt but I believe the newer model uses 2 AAA batteries. The guitar also comes with a power adaptor but I find it clunky. The cord is fairly short and it goes into the guitar in a weird position. When I gig with the guitar, I just make sure I have a new battery in it and go!
@@starrynightguitars: I have a Yamaha C40 which is an excellent student, and intermediate instrument, but I wanted something to noodle on when laid up in bed, and I'd say it's a higher quality neck, finger board and frets, on the silent 😉
I just got one last week and I love this thing. I got the steel string version. I have zero complaints and it works great for me for recording and for live use. I had shoulder surgery and big acoustics are painful to play, Ovations i own make life a lot easier but its still painful. This guitar if youve had rotator cuff surgery is a god send. Just a heads up. Thanks for the video. I love this thing. I do want to get a Yamaha that uses the same electronics but in a standard acoustic the Transacoustic series.
Thanks for checking out the video CT. I used to have a steel string one but I sold it to get this one. I needed the nylon string more. Glad to hear you’re liking your new guitar.
@@starrynightguitars Id used Ovation acoustics for decades and just recently I bought a F335 that i put a bone saddle and nut on. Guitar was $80. I bought a F310 that i did the same thing to, but also added better tuners. $80 total. Im looking at a Red Label FG700S right now that i may buy ($212 shipped used) and I have their Silent Guitar. I think Yamaha for the price has some of the best acoustics ive played. Even the cheap ones I have after a lil work sound and play nice. I am very very interested in getting the Nylon string model of this silent guitar down the road as well. And i really want to get one of their Transcoustic series that utilizes the same technology that the silent guitar does for electronics. Yamaha = Good stuff. :-)
@@ctcards2636 - I totally agree with your last statement. Yamaha=good guitars! All the acoustics I’ e seen have been solid and the electrics are great as well/ though not light! I had an Ovation Elite for a few decades. It sounded great through an amp but not acoustically. I think the nylon string is great. This is the older version. The newer one is only slightly different. Different wood and includes a tuner. Happy shopping!!
Hi Mr kettner. I loved having you as a band teacher 2012 and 13 I think. Never got see how talented you were in class. Awesome guitar. you play beautifully.
Hi Robert! Good to hear from you. Hope all is well and thanks very much. Still practicing and trying to get better. 😊 All the best to you in the new year!
I have the nylon version with the slightly narrower neck than the classical silent model Yamaha also sell . The sound quality and playability is really excellent. Super intonation...great fingerboard. I play it through a Laney AH150 Audiohub which is a very good match for this guitar I feel. Looking to also buy the steel strung version next.
I have the steel string newer model with AA batteries. As i recall the newer model has more synthesizer options. It's my go to guitar so i don't annoy the family. :-)
Thanks for sharing this with us Richard. I've had a couple of these over the years and must admit they are pretty good. I used to play mine just through the Roland AC 40 and it sounded really good. Interesting your using a Katana. I'm looking at purchasing another nylon string soon. Looking forward to more of your videos. Best wishes from the UK 😎😎🎶🎶
Digital Guitars UK- thanks for checking it out! When I gig, I usually use my Fishman Loudbox Mini which is an acoustic amp. I just plugged into the Katana for this video.
Great Video! Thanks. Im 65 and what to learn guitar. I like all genres of music Classical, blues, meta.. etc.. do you think this makes a good first guitar?
Thanks for checking the video out! I guess it could be a good first guitar. The only problem with that would be that you couldn’t play with other people with this instrument. That’s one of the most fun things to do & certainly one of the best ways to learn. Have fun & enjoy the journey!!
Great video, thank you so much. I do have a few questions 1. How long does the 9 volt battery last? 2. When traveling can you carry it on or do you need to check it in because of the size when flying?
@@brandonkriegerKNSS - You’re welcome Brandon. The battery lasts quite a long time. The guitar also comes with an adaptor but I don’t use it when playing live. There’s a storage pouch for the adaptor in the gig bag. And yes, you can travel with the guitar & it fits in the overhead compartment.
@@brandonkriegerKNSS - one more thing about the battery. It lasts quite a while for me because when I do live gigs, I only use it for one or two tunes. I also make sure to unplug the guitar once I’m done using it otherwise it will continue to drain on your battery. All the best!
@@BrandonKrieger - Well, that depends. If you're a real classical guitarist, you might think it doesn't sound very realistic. As I mentioned in the video, I originally got it to use in our fifth wheel. I think I like the sound best when used with headphones. The built in effects sound really good to my ears. When playing live, I'm not super happy with the sound but that might be my fault as I've not taken much time to deal in a sound.
I am just learning guitar@@starrynightguitars and I have a Taylor GS Mini Koa Plus which I love. Just trying to figure out if there is a better travel guitar that is more compacted that still has a great sound. My focus currently is mostly Acoustic playing not really into electronic guitar songs and/or classic ones as of yet.

Thanks John. Yes, there is very little sound if you play it I unamplified. Great for traveling!
