Hi. My name is Rich Kettner. Thanks for visiting my channel! I'm a retired music teacher and am now enjoying retirement & playing my guitars.
My Foolish Heart
I've recently heard a version of this by John Scofield and I fell in love with the tune. The guitar is my Eastman John Pisano 380.

Beautiful tone right there😮
@@neoranyamatsane4854 - thank you very much.
What is the string tension like if you play in alternate tunings like drop D or even drop low E to C? I usually play Martin acoustics (25.4 inch neck) and I have always steered away from shorter scale guitars but this one looks like a great intro to jazz boxes.

Great job Rich. Is that a 5th Avenue you are playing?
@@philjunnila - hi Phil. Yes it is.
Nice one Rich!
@@ModernGuitarHarmony - thank you very much. Such a lovely tune.
@@starrynightguitars it is indeed 👍

Hi Mr. Ketner! It's one of your old students!
Beautiful. I wish I could play that on my guitar
Thank you very much. The arrangement isn't mine. I't's by the amazing Walter Rodrigues Jr. You can find him on YT and he has the arrangement available on his Patreon page.
Excellent review and beautiful sounding guitar... Thank you!
@@visualmusic4 - thanks for checking this out! I LOVE this guitar!
Beautiful playing!! Thank you!

I love it pops !
@@Xavier148xav - Pops?!? 😂
More keaggy! And I would like to hear some more from that Eastman
That’s all I’ve got from Phil!😂 I am definitely a fan though. I saw him live twice- once with just him & his acoustic guitar. Mind blowing!! Check out some other videos on my channel to hear the Eastman in action.
Niiiiice how is this even in my algorithm hahaha
Glad it found you! Hope you find it helpful.
Is that intonation OK? At 1:29 it appears the EAD saddles are all at the top of their adjustment, while the GBE saddles are at about the same place on the lower side of the adjustment. I usually see a stair-step, low-to-high, for each string set, not 3-equal top, then 3-equal bottom. Beautiful guitar that sounds great, in any case!
❤
Great playing man, love it!
@@ThatMaggot42 - thanks very much!
Great job !
@@user-vt5kw3iq1n - thanks very much.
Hey Rich, thanks for the video. One things that is not clear to me from the description on sites like Sweetwater is whether this is fully hallow or semi hallow (with center block). Can you clear my confusion? Really looking to get this one.
@@Ruddy_ - Yes, this guitar is fully hollow- no center block. Very light as well.
Thank for the info and the demo!
😊 nice
beautiful playing, what kind of strings? nice and dry and woody
Thanks! I had just got this guitar so I don't know what kind or gauge of strings. And yes, it sounds absolutely beautiful, acoustically or through an amp. I sold my Eastman T59V to buy this and I have no regrets. It was an awesome guitar but this gets the sound that I've been hearing in my head.
I'm trying to narrow down some choices for a hollowbody 330 style myself, transitioning from soley acoustic playing to explore electric. The only other contender is collings i30lc and maybe Heritages 530, but Collings is obviously way more expensive.. however it's touted as being very feedback resistant. have you had the chance to see what level of volume it takes to make this get unruly with feedback?
@@user-kx2uz6vo9g - I recently did a video on my YT channel where I was playing with some overdrive. It sounded great but I haven't used it in a band setting where it needs to cut through the mix. There is also a great video of Shawn Tubbs playing one of these with quite a bit of distortion. It sounded great!
I listened to your explanation about the circle of fifths and how it relates to this guitar exercise and am intrigued to explore it. Thank you!
@@bobhekker4060 - thanks Bob! Take it slowly and keep at it. Well worth the effort.
love it
Thanks so much.

Thanks for checking it out!
Is this the dirtiest video you’ve done so far? 😉 Beautiful tones from the T64. It’s on my bucket list. Thank you.
@@standingbadger - Yes sir! I recorded it on my phone so it didn’t sound as good as it did in the room. The bridge sounds so good with OD.
Sweet!
Thanks for checking it out.
Hey Rich thank you for all your uploads, I discovered your channel while trying to found eastmam t64 clips. How do you compare the neck of the t64 with the t59 and maybe with the godin 5th kingpin?
@@podfigo - thank you for checking out the videos. One big differences I see in the neck is that the body on the T 64 restricts you getting into the upper register where the T 59V had better access to the higher frets . That’s not a dealbreaker for me but I do miss getting into the range of the 15th to 17th frets. The height of the fret is very similar to the T 59V and they’re very nice. The Godin has almost no fret and they are very low. It also blocks your access to the fret above the 12th or 13th due to the body. I do like the Godin for sitting around and playing it acoustically as it’s pretty loud without any amplification.
@@podfigo thank you for checking out my videos. Both the T5 9V and the T 64 are beautiful guitars but I find some slight differences in the neck. The T64 doesn’t have as easy access to the higher frets once you get above the 12th fret. This is not a dealbreaker for me but the access to higher frets is much or assessable on the T 59V. If you were a player who likes to play way up the neck that fact might be a dealbreaker with the T 64. I love how light this guitar I s and I’m really loving the sound of the P90 pick ups. As far as the Godin, that has almost no fret. I tend to find myself playing that when I just grab a guitar and sit down and play it as it’s quite loud without any amplification.
It is the neck of the t59 fuller or chunkier as I saw on eastman forum site?
@@podfigo - yes, I’d say the T59 has a bit more chunkier neck. The T64 also feels like the fingerboard might be slightly more narrow. If you have large hands you might find the T59 more comfortable. Both are really comfortable to me so the difference is negligible.
Great sound 😎
Thanks!
Hi, did you try katana 50 before you buy 100?
@@mitasaron2735 - Nope. I wanted the pedal board that goes with it and it’s only available for the 100. However, I’ve only used it two or three times. 🫤
@@starrynightguitars Oh, I understand. Thanks =)

Just bought one. Best guitar I have ever owned. I would take if over my Gibson 335, my Guild , or my Epiphone Casino. If you’ve never had the pleasure of playing one and are thinking of buying a new guitar, do yourself favor , play. one. Nice playing. Enjoyed the video.
@@CScott-zu5mv - thanks very much. I must agree with you. I’ve had many great guitars but this one is simply stunning.

this was awesome!! nicely played brother and such a sweet tone from your Eastman!
@@proverbs11vs30 - thanks brother! I’m loving this guitar! It’s a keeper. I’m thinking of setting it up with some flats.
@@starrynightguitars that would be cool, I had flats on my T-486 and it sounded great to me (but Im partial to flats 🙂) I have heard of 'half flats' but havent tried them yet..
@@proverbs11vs30 - what gauge flats do you use? Are you able to bend strings?
@@starrynightguitars I currently use diadarrio flats .11 gauge (I dont do much bending at all) but I can bend a whole step at the 12th fret (on the G string) and 1/2 step on 5th fret (G string), Im thinking about going down to .10s as they may be a bit softer on the nails (as Im trying to play more /exclusively finger style)
@@proverbs11vs30 -thanks! Yes, I’m thinking tens as well. I put a set of 11s on my telecaster and I just couldn’t bend anything. That might’ve been because of the scale length but I’m thinking I give 10s a shot.
Nice. New guitar sounds great.
Thanks Gary. I’m loving this guitar!
Awesome. Mac Millers cover is beautiful
Really nice :)
Love the choice of material. Partial to melody. Nice.
Thanks for listening. So am I!
I've heard that trick from a couple other sources i.e. putting felt or foam under the casings of P90s. Good to hear it worked. This guitar is high on my list of future acquisitions. Looks and sounds great! I appreciate hearing the first-hand experience from a jazzer.
Thanks for checking the video out. Yes, this is a great guitar. If you’re more of a rock player, it sounds killer with some dirt on it as well. Check out the video by Shawn Tubbs where he plays one of this with some drive. Incredible player!!
Nicely done, Rich.
Thanks very much!
right on, old timer. hell yeah
Love this! Any jazz improv tips?
@@R0s3_Th3_S1mp - thanks for checking this out! As far as tips- do a lot of listening and try to start playing what you hear. Maybe check out Jim Hall & Grant Green. Great players that are a bit easier to figure out what they’re playing.
Great Video! Thanks. Im 65 and what to learn guitar. I like all genres of music Classical, blues, meta.. etc.. do you think this makes a good first guitar?
Thanks for checking the video out! I guess it could be a good first guitar. The only problem with that would be that you couldn’t play with other people with this instrument. That’s one of the most fun things to do & certainly one of the best ways to learn. Have fun & enjoy the journey!!
When I get old, I hope to be like you. Awesome performance
Thanks for sharing this Rich. You make it sound lovely. I had the good fortune to play a T64v/b late last year and I fell in love with it. I was shocked at how light in weight it was.
Thanks very much. Yes, it’s super light and the pickups are wonderful.
Pretty decent sound.
I have since sold this and bought a Henriksen Blu Six. Amazing amp!
