I bought a Victorinox Forester (two handed version) out of curiosity and since then I feel naked when i don't have it with me. The blade is sharp as hell and easy to resharpen, the saw is absolutely usable, even for wrist sized branches and the small tools really come in handy for survival- and everyday tasks. If you ask me for the perfect EDC-Knife, it would be this one. Of course this is not made for hardcore batoning and a foldable saw does the job quicker, but you normally don't carry a full tang blade and a foldable saw on an everyday basis, whereas this knife fits in every small pocket and is lightweight. The best survival knife is the one that you have with you and this one fits this criteria perfectly.
For Comparison: A Mora Garberg together with its sheath and a Bakho Laplander weigh 231g + 200g = 431g. A Forester which combines knife, saw and additional tools only weighs 130grams.

👍 Good demonstration. I agree with you; tried and try tools are “tried & true” for a reason.

I just bought one of these knive and waiting for it to arrive. For years my Ed has been a smaller bladed 2 blade Victorinox with several additional features…but as the craziness gets worse in society, I feel this is a better urban carry. Helpful video! Thanks.

I got it and I like it! It was very sharp out of the box. However, the blade point was so dull (rounded) that it could not poke out of a paper bag! Now it is better printed with a little judicial effort with my dremel grindstone!

I don't think the dual grip is out of production as the current Soldier, still issued to all Swiss soldiers, has it, just in olive green instead of red, with black raised stripes. I like my Soldier because of the colours and the fact that it has a Phillips SD instead of a corkscrew, but I prefer the main blade on the Forester as it isn't part serrated. I agree that both are great for Bushcraft and outdoors activities.

Brother i wanted to have the one hand opening feature and i can only get it if i buy the trailmaster grip as it is the only one the retailer around my area has. I really prefer the one hand opening but the the thing im skeptical about is the serration. You have the swiss soldier's knife which has the same tools as the trailmaster grip so tell me if the one hand opening is worth to own if we get the serration with it

This’s a great knife, I also have the soldier but for sure the Rangergrip 78, or 79 is the best for forest or camping. Strong tall saw and the blade is perfect .

Agree the 130mm ones and they are the best one stop outdoors only tools best at fire making out there now that I have one and put it through 2 winters. All the Victorinox Delémont RangerGrip 55, 79, 155, 179 models have a better handle, bigger blade, and a superior saw more comparable to an actual specialized folding saw without the extra bulk and expense. For one tool outdoors carry be it hiking, camping, shelter making, or fire building it is exceptional and the Ranger wood model seems to pass the test for those touchy about knives. So far it gets treated more like a classy kitchen piece than a big knife and there has been none of that "multitool bro/lesbian" eyeroll or avoidance.

Very nice review my friend. Very handy tool too. I find the saw and the awl particularly useful.

👍 But: The Victorinox Forester M Grip is still in production (I just bought one). Many other Victorinox 111 mm knife types with these two-component scales will continue to be produced, in different colors. All army builds have these hard plastic and softer material grip scales, so they've performed well and there's no reason to stop making them.

I want to order one online.
But what is "M grip"? Is it a rubberized material? I'm not so sure about rubberized materials because where I stay, if I keep them, they melt over time.
