- Just to explore up first turkey Mount Archer North Rockhampton showing some of little historical gems that aren't in any of the books sorry, documented some of them in my video from mining, World War II and more
The shaft was overgrown, many of us regular users didn't know it was there. Although probably just before this video someones dog fell down it and had to be rescued so it was cleaned and the firies left that fence behind.
that mine was probably some gold mining that was occurring, the Canoona rush was the first gold rush in the district but it petered out pretty quickly, didn't last long
Yeah failed. Attempt in search for gold but Moores creek. They did find some gold. Down near the cemetery that wasn't recorded very well in the history
Have you thought of wandering around the mountains behind the old Cammoo Caves at all? There is the old Flogged Horse cave, as well as a huge, cathedral-like cave, with the entrance being a small opening at the top of the ridge. Further down the road towards Olsen's, on the top of the hill (the small range crossing), there are remnants of an old cottage, as well as a few old, spoked, model T type wheels. On the same ridge, there is a Karst cave system where a man and his wife lived. Some of the older locals can tell you their story. I think he was nicknamed, 'the crazy clock man', because after he passed away, a collection of old clocks were found in one part of the cave.
Oh wow! Nice! No, I've never ventured out that way around that cave system scared I might get lost. I'll have to take someone with me
@@CQExplorers i can show you a few. Would be good
@TradeTravelTroopy anytime I'm always up for an adventure
I grew up in that area, my family had the lease on the Camoo caves back in the mid 70's, for about 3 years, we'd leased it from a feller named Llewyn who also had a kiosk called Wappaburraover on Great Keppel.
@Xl8tor241 I was mates with the adopted son of the people who turned it over to National Parks. There's a lot more caves there than most people know about, especially on private blocks close to the range.
Really interesting video mate👍. I’m there often and didn’t know half that stuff. Thoroughly enjoyed it and now have more stuff to look at when I’m riding 😃
Too easy Mick Lots of history around up there 😊
8:25 'More fullerer' is the correct term I believe...😂
Didn't know if it was Fuller full or just an f load of water 😉
Another great video, keep up the good work 👍
Thanks. It was a good video to make. Finally, I got around to it
There's a house in George street, between William and Derby streets that has a retaining wall constructed from river stones sourced from Moore's creek at the bottom end of First Turkey. Five trailer loads if memory serves correctly...that was in the early 90s.
Ah nice! I'll have to drive past and see if I can see it
@@CQExplorers 195, between the front house and the back yard/shed. Behind the tractor mechanics.
Thanks Brad. I'll have a look next time I go past
I never knew the weir existed. Very cool.
So much up there people don't know about. It's like a mystery area
Good one mark, is it a good idea to do that walk on a saturday morning with out getting run over by bikers?
Yeah it can be done whenever The track is a shared track up to the mountain bike area Saturday morning probably would be a popular time for them
