Gommersall family homestead is opposite it and still standing. Doug Carswell did alot of work to restore this home. The site of the Thomasson family home is just around the corner on Greenlakes Road also. Great video

There was a trench the army had cut on the top of the hill at the south of Lammermoor, that had a good view over the southern beaches. Roundabout where Ocean Crescent is now as best as I can recall

The schol was on the swamp side not the new pub site, flash Harry's pud was on a wee know on the other side of the swamp.

When I went up there , I couldn't believe people lived on the top. With near vertical front yards. Amazing view tho.

Just another one of Australia's Ghost Ports, up to Port Douglas and down to Kiama, just 2 more. The local library would help with the location of the book " Australia's Ghost Ports " Lived in Rocky for approx 6 months, rented the house in Millers on the hill up from the Van-Park-(ex Mt Morgan ,Millers) $18/week Joyce Miller( world famous concert piano player) and her husband Neville had the Caravan Park in Parkhurst. Grandma Miller $$$$$ lived " on the Hill" in Rocky, that's a Rocky saying. Thanks for the video.

Visit the Museum as well and see the copies of nuggets they found in the early days of the mine. Huge dollars required for restoration of the area, like most old mines.

What a great video Mark enjoyed it very much very brave of you to walk through that long grass and going across that bridge and thank you for doing so.. My Mums people were from Mt Morgan and she was born there in1923 and her mother was the first white woman born in Mt Morgan .... My brother and I spent many holidays in the Mount and we even went to school there for 2 years so we used to walk across the old bridge that was replaced with the new suspension bridge... It is a shame that more is not done to those places of interest those bridge structures could be cleaned up and the old rail line also for tourist walks I'm sure the Rockhampton council could dispatch a wipper snipper crew once a month to do the job,.. but if they could not restore a Heritage listed bridge than grass cutting is out of the question,.... anyway thanks again Mark.....

Good video. The original crossing of Alligator Creek was a forde (causeway) right next to the water pipeline. There are newspaper articles (2H1800s) of travelers stripping and crossing the forde at flood times and being attacked by crocs. That would have been where the first inn was located. The first bridge (timber struss - Australia's largest timber truss span bridge) was opened in 1877. The concrete bridge 'that is not used anymore' (is used by locals) replaced the timber truss bridge in 1960. The Army had the privilege of blowing up the timber truss bridge (probably for demolition experience). The 1960s bridge still flooded too frequently so the current bridge site at a higher elevation next the railway bridge was built.

Have you thought of wandering around the mountains behind the old Cammoo Caves at all? There is the old Flogged Horse cave, as well as a huge, cathedral-like cave, with the entrance being a small opening at the top of the ridge. Further down the road towards Olsen's, on the top of the hill (the small range crossing), there are remnants of an old cottage, as well as a few old, spoked, model T type wheels. On the same ridge, there is a Karst cave system where a man and his wife lived. Some of the older locals can tell you their story. I think he was nicknamed, 'the crazy clock man', because after he passed away, a collection of old clocks were found in one part of the cave.

There's a house in George street, between William and Derby streets that has a retaining wall constructed from river stones sourced from Moore's creek at the bottom end of First Turkey. Five trailer loads if memory serves correctly...that was in the early 90s.

My mum and dad built the railway house. I loved growing up there. It's was the best childhood. We would walk up the railway tracks and go for an adventure.

Iron sulphide( iron pyrite) was, and still is, used to make sulphuric acid. Acidification of run off water from iron sulphide is currently the mines main pollution.

The colour was green, bluish-green and rarely turquoise blue." They were there prospecting for a hopeful phosphate deposit to mine for fertiliser.
