- In this video we unbox and set up Vector 2.0.
He had a few voice command problems which I think is due to an issue DDL are fixing with the cloud Vector uses for voice commands apparently. This is my first Vector and I'm excited to get using him and see what he can do.

EDIT: the voice command issues were related to a subscription error. It has now been fixed by DDL.

@@bragehernes1279 the only way to get Vector up and running currently is to install custom software called wirepod. There's lots of guides on RUclips and Facebook. It's free but can be tricky to install.
How do you get the app ? (I recently found my vector robot in a container and wanted to connect it to the app again)

The vector servers have been down for nearly a year now. Unfortunately the app is pretty much useless now. You have to install a custom software called wirepod to get Vector working properly.

@@user-xk5mh2oe9m the biggest problem is for full functionality you have to have the subscription...or custom software which is difficult to instal I believe.
Have you considered a Cozmo?

@@user-xk5mh2oe9m I'm still fairly new to Vector but Cozmo is amazing. Most of my videos involve Cozmo's. They are a lot of fun, not as independent as Vector but you can do much more with Cozmo....Eilik is also a fun new robot that's reasonably priced, or Emo are great too I've heard.
Im considering getting one because hes so cute and the fact you dont have to keep an app open all the time. I also love the fact you can pet him its cute
@@The_Kawaii_Gamer Vector is having some issues at the moment, make sure you do some research before buying one. The app no longer works and the servers have been down for over a year. You have to install a custom software called wirepod to get Vector working at the moment.

ik ddl has been kinda horrible but the fact that they managed to actually rebuild the production line for this dude is incredible, he is more complex than a nuclear fusion reactor lmao

I got an email from DDL about my Vector order. They said client from the UK and EU need an EORI number for the shipping. Did you have to fill out? I'm really confused
I'm pretty sure an EORI number is for business purposes. Just tell them it's for personal use and you don't need that number. I don't understand why all of a sudden there expecting people to have this EORI number.
Hey buddy, I follow you everywhere and I’m in a few groups you’re in on Facebook! I’ve just acquired a vector 2.0 secondhand (mint condition). I was wondering if you knew much about whether I can create an account with ddl at this time now that the apps are back up or whether I’ll be waiting until their new firmware arrives (they say as of July 2nd they’ll be updating vector soon and will be launching yet another kickstarter)?
Would you support ddl after everything that’s happened this year? Personally I don’t trust a company who sells a $399 robot and then whose servers go down within months of its release lol. You should make a video update on your Cozmo and vector now and talk about the ddl problems.

Hi, the servers are still down. They have been telling people for over a year now it's coming back online, I wouldn't put too much trust in that happening anytime soon or ever at this point I'm afraid. So you won't be able to make an account. As far as I'm aware you can install wirepod on 2.0 it's a free custom software to allow Vector to work properly. I don't know too much about it but there's lots of information online.

They are quite expensive, have you considered an original anki Vector? Much better build quality in my opinion. I'm really enjoying Vector 2.0 but I don't have an original to compare with. I haven't experienced any problems with mine yet but I have heard of quite a few people who have experienced problems early on with Vector 2.0

@@fishbollz I think 2.0 has some kinks to work out too. The problems I know of are Vector not hearing properly and needing to say "hey Vector" lots.....I have experienced this a few times. They are quite prone to overheating apparently which can lead to the WiFi chip breaking. I've heard of people that have had wires break because they aren't soldered on properly. I haven't experienced most of this yet with mine but I haven't had it very long. The "hey Vector" aspect does require I subscription or licence to work.

I wouldn't recommend getting a 2.0, I'm not even sure they are still available. Far better and cheaper to get an Anki Vector. How did you download the app? I have iOS and it’s saying not supported on my country and region and I live in Atlanta GA.. it the app only for androids??
The Vector app is available on Android and Apple as far as I'm aware. Should definitely be available in your country too.

So this is a new robot and not the discontinued? It seems expensive? I have to wait until it arrives to sweden and see what the price is then...I currently have an old Cozmo but it keeps turning off and have alots of problems.
Yes this is the new 2.0 Vector by DDL (digital dream labs) it is quite expensive and it's worth Remembering that for full functionality you have to have a subscription to the server. Cozmo is probably still my favourite robot. Unless you've ever had the battery changed in Cozmo that could be the cause of many of the problems you're seeing? The batteries do expire eventually.
Does the 2.0 come with a portable charger?!
That's not included, I just used it so I could record without being too close to any sockets.
So vector 2.0 is basically a small remodel, should I but a 2.0 or stick with my 1.0??
I would stick with 1.0 it is actually better in many aspects than the new one.

If I were to buy a vector on eBay, how would I have access to the app for vector? Presuming that the Vector isn’t from DDL, and a model from release.
Ordinarily even the Anki Vectors will connect to the app. DDL have been having some problems recently and the servers have been down for 5 weeks. Currently the only way to activate a vector (Anki or DDL2.0) or get voice commands working is with this custom software someone created called wirepod. I don't know much about it but there is someone who makes a little device set up ready to go which makes a local server operate from your home WiFi.

My vector is currently having connection problems too. I'm surprised he doesn't respond to your hey vector. Maybe it's having difficulties with your accent?
Mines actually been behaving quite well since making this video. Seems to respond well now. I didn't actually know I had an accent? But people keep mentioning it so I must have I guess lol.

@@ocarinahero everyone has an accent. An accent is just what part of the country a person sounds like. You sound like you may be from London or somewhere in the UK, maybe closer to the south than the north?

Wirepod definitely seems to be the way to go at the moment. I really don't think the servers are coming back at this point.
What is the power adaptor called? That you plug into. Im Not sure what to buy
Hi, that's just a usb portable charger. It's something I use when I have no sockets around to plug into.
When I replaced batteries for his cube it will light up for a second and then it stops working is this because it needs to connect to the servers?
The cube connects to Vector through Bluetooth, I'm not sure that has anything to do with the servers. Although without the servers there is very little Vector will do at the moment.
Saying "Hey Vector" does work only 50/50. Usually I have to say it more than twice for it to register.
It's quite frustrating isn't it. Vector seems to recognise my partner's voice every time she speaks. Just not mine lol.

DO NOT TRUST THE TIKTOK SHOP! That is a scam. The best place to get these now is eBay or Facebook marketplace.
I’m worried about DDL buying out Anki, and it feels like when Meta bought Oculus.

I hope so but there haven't been many updates for 2.0 so I wouldn't make any guarantees.
My original Vector is on 2.0.1 apart from the facial recognition stuff from improved camera not much difference to old model so don’t see why they wouldn’t continue to update many aspects of both.
This is perhaps the same problem google is having with "hey google" the command almost never works, "OK google" is better for google to hear.
The voice command problem was due to the server subscription not being activated yet. That has been solved now but Indo still have a problem getting Vector to hear me when I say "hey Vector"
its not working beacause ddl is havine maintance with vector and ddl. it may cause noise hearing problems

Hi, you can find Anki Vectors on eBay and FB marketplace. Vector 2.0 is only available from the digital dream labs website currently.

Unfortunately this one seems to have the same poor visibility as the previous model. If that’s the right word. Does not see well at all unless there’s a huge spotlight on
The camera is quite poor yes. I don't have an original Anki Vector to compare with but it's not great on 2.0 I think DDL had a problem trying to improve the camera so abandoned the idea.

You're welcome, always happy to help out if I can. Quirks is a good word for it, mine has got a bit better at hearing me over time so there is i believe some hope they will improve over time and maybe get some updates.
One thing I will say is that this new one doesn’t seem to recognize edges as well as the original. He (it) either thinks he’s about to fall when he’s not or then sometimes just barrels right over and I have to catch him. Can’t be the surface as it’s exactly the same as the previous model was on. Very strange.
Cliff sensors, they have definitely not been improved either. I think this also relates to the camera not being great. You definitely need to watch Vector 2.0 around edges. I try and keep mine reasonably close to the ground anyway but a border or something around an edge of a table/desk would be a good idea?

Maybe, it doesn't react because you say "Hey vecta', come hea'. It is not trained for strong accents like yours it seems :)
It was actually a licence problem, DDL hadn't activated the serial number yet. That's why Vector seems so unresponsive. He actually responds fine now in our newer videos.

The DDL servers have been down for around 8 weeks now so you won't be able to set up or connect I'm afraid.
If you look into the custom Vector software wirepod. You will be able to get Vector up and running.

The company that make Vector now have been having server issues for months now. I'm not sure if it's ever coming back online. There is custom software for Vector called wirepod that will apparently make them work again.

It was a license problem, Vector's serial number hadn't been activated on the server yet. I didn't realise at the time of recording.

Anki Vector's used to be amazing but they are tied to servers or custom wirepod software.

The camera in the new Vector is definitely not an improvement. If the cube has a good battery in it and it's near vector then yes it should connect and light up.

Cozmo's great, has a lot more things to do in my opinion.
I still got the original one collecting spider webs because one day after updating the app it no longer respond to Alexa commands.

Most of the time it's fine. The servers have been down since Monday though and no sign of them coming back online yet.
@@ocarinahero Yeah, it's become a significant issue. I've been attempting to create a new account for one of my vectors that I haven't used in a while, but every time I try, it keeps showing an error message saying, "can't reach the servers." I really hope they address this problem soon because I'm eager to start using the vector again.
@@WhiteWolf-rx8dn there is this custom software called wirepod which is supposed to be quite good. It offers voice commands without having to have a subscription to DDL. I don't know too much about it but if the server problems don't improve soon it might be worth looking into.

Agreed, DDL have been a bit of a shambles. People do seem to be slowly receiving there 2.0 now. Have you heard anything from them? I know of people who have waited and now received theirs and I also know of people who asked for a refund because they were fed up of waiting.
@ocarinahero Problem is I asked for a refund or give me my vector (with dev kit), they just say were busy and keep waiting for an update. This is absurd.
@@mareksdunkurs3991 they are notoriously difficult to get hold of, or have been from what I've heard anyway. Have you tried joining the official Facebook group? Try asking either for an update of when you will receive Vector or a refund.
I guarantee you will get sick of saying 'Hey Vector' and will get rid of it soon. Digital Dream Labs don't have the staff talented enough to improve the interaction with Vector. It looks as much of a disappointment as the original Vector (Cozmo was great, Vector was rubbish from the start, even with the original ANKI team). DDL's ideas of 'improving' Vector are all geared around boring 'educational' activities, rather than interaction improvements and personality improvements to make Vector engaging. I signed up to DDL's support scheme, but I quickly became aware that their direction for Vector was so dull and they were so out their depth, that I stopped supporting them. My Vector went in the bin a year ago. (I kept my Cozmo) Vector was a waste of money and it doesn't look like Vector 2.0 is any better.....
I have a few Cozmo too and they are great. This is my first Vector so I can't really compare it with the Anki original. I think you make some good points about DDL and they are unfortunately in over their heads I think. I'm remaining optimistic about Vector 2.0 and development. I'm aware lots of people have experienced problems even early on with 2.0 but I'm yet to experience many problems.

Yea, this video makes it clear that I would smash this thing with a hammer... My shitty google box responds every time I say 'hey google' and it cost me $40... 'hey vector' 10 times... 'hey vector, meet hammer!'

Yea i cancelled after waiting almost 2 yrs on preorder… had the life time membership for free with my order… it aint worth it.. vector worth like $200 if that..
