Hi guys, love the channel. Have you any ideas for improving the sound of the L494 SDV8 exhaust? My L320 TDV8 had a lovely burble on idle but the new car seems very subdued. Love to see you try something to address this.
I've tried to remove resonator on my l405 5.0 supercharged. Quite honestly sounds like shit... Not even close to SVR, more like V6 Infinity. Don't make me wrong, it's good sound, but definetly not for V8 Range Rover. Also stock exhaust comes with X-pipe, which I didn't touch. Maybe straight pipe will help?
A great little Sunday here in the states (D.C.) binge watching powerfulUK videos! I have a 2014 L494 and on this topic, would love to know why when I start up the exhaust sounds so much louder compared to when it finally revs down to idle, is this a factory response? Almost sounds like during idle, the exhaust is muffled or limited in some way when in normal driving mode.
Hi Todd - yes i have been seeing you comments come in ! To my knowledge these is no change to the exhaust possible ( other than on the SVR ) so I think this effect ( I see it on my Petrol Defender ) is that to improve engine warm up the revs are increased ( like an old style choke ) for the first 30-60 seconds to warm up the catalyst etc. The engine will make a different noise when there is no load on the engine and also when you are still there is no wind noise to cancel out the exhaust note - so it seems louder ! This is just my thoughts - could all be twaddle !
Hi - this is the SVR 2015 rear bumper. The bumper has a removable tow hitch cover - there are different tow hitch panels depending on the type of hitch you have fitted.
Cutting a hole in the muffler then cutting a hole in the pipe in the muffler. How'd you even think of that? Most folks just get rid of the center boxes or the mufflers.
Yes it was a bit of an off the wall idea but seems to work well... the centre boxes are straight through so i dont see there would be any benefit ! Also this is a covert mod so no issues with warranty or insurance !
@@simonjefferson mine has the center boxes removed and rear mufflers in place. I'm thinking about putting the center muffler back and getting rid of the mufflers. I can't find any videos of the difference between each sound
very nice sound, but ONE QUESTION, how can i get this sound on my v6 supercharged L494. I love the rumble your car makes, but i dont think v6 supercharged models have that sort of sound. It is a big mystery on how to replicate that sound on my v6 supercharged. Any thoughts? I was thinking of replacing the 2 center resonators with an X pipe in order to get your sound. Maybe the X pipe will change the tone on my v6 to your v8 sort of tone. Hmm...

@@MrZziy It definitely will, but the noise might not go with the looks. The L405 was always the 'classy' RR, whereas the L494 is the hooligan RR. But the mod is easily reversed, just keep the part they cut out.
@@L663 I've watched this video probably 5 times, not counting the rewinds. I have a thought. To get a more natural looking SVR dual pipe outlet look from the standard Rover Sport mufflers, would it have been possible to simply cut in a same sized diameter hole in muffler, about an inch or so, next to the factory exhaust pipe, and weld a new pipe in the muffler next to the factory pipe? Other than the needed bend in the valved pipe, that's what was done to the factory SVR muffler. I'm asking your thought on it because I have a 2014 Rover Sport V8 with an SVR style kit and I'm thinking about having my muffler shop just add the new pipe next to the pipe that's already there, as I described. I already removed my center muffler and resonator, so it's loud enough already. I'm think that simply adding an extra pipe next to current one will give a more natural dual pipe look but shouldn't change the current exhaust note much, if any at all. What are your thoughts? Am I over thinking this? Because if were that simple I'm thinking you guys would have tried it.
@@carycoller3140 You must be sick of my voice by now.... well you could always mute the sound ! The problem will be if you just add an extra tailpipe at the end plate of the box where there is a circular depression your gasses will bypass the silencer totally and this will be loud .. adding a valve would be a good idea. The gen valves are hard to retrofit as they seem to use some tricky communication system,
Sounds absolutely incredible
This is too good! We need more RRS L494 films like this one!

What the cost of all the mods to the car total when done. And what will be the reflection in the cars value in your honest opinion?

How many inches is the drilling hole,
Is it possible to make the diesel model sound more beefy? New to all this car modding stuff but would love to make this mod if possible!
yes its possible, you'll need to straight pipe it i think
Yes with a Thor speaker in the exhaust they sound pretty good

Put a hole in the main exhaust pipe too! Very low sounding! 3/4” size!
Not a bad idea

You've just upset the Air/Fuel ratio by altering the exhaust backpressure.
The exhaust has a O2 sensor in it ( both sides ) and will make adjustments accordingly...
