I was fortunate to be educated in English, and get selected into IIT, with an opportunity to excel in tennis as well. Many folks think that I was privileged due to my caste. My parents were very poor Brahmins who succeeded in India because of sheer merit, but suffered discrimination precisely because they were Brahmins and my father was repeatedly denied promotions because he was considered upper caste ( a kind of reverse discrimination as it were). I graduated from IIT, completed my post-graduate studies in the US and achieved a moderate success in the US through my merit and became a US Citizen. The basic answer is because the General Category i.e. that section of the society that is being institutionally discriminated against because of Reservations (Quota System) in India. These people leave the country and the US by default gets the best and the brightest of the Indian population.
I am proud of each and every one of them. I am proud of each and every one of them. They have made a difference to the way the world views India and people of Indian descent. if you really look at the early Indian migrants they will have come from families with certain level of education and wealth. But that does not mean they were 'elites' in India or it was only a certain 'caste' which migrated to India. India has had leaders from every 'caste' from the get go. #history
I've grown up in the uk and used to want to go into politics here. Now, I feel as if the only country I'll truly be accepted in is India. You'll always be seen of as indian here (in a bad way).
It is of course true that so-called upper caste folks took advantage of the opportunity to come to the US, however many were simple middle class, NOT elite and even under privileged socially. What they did have was a strong values like hard work, convictions towards the education and many had excelled academically in India.

There’s an inherent contradiction when you talk about folks who are on H1-B and Green Card having issues with Democratic policies on immigration. Those who fall in the above immigration status are not eligible to vote, how does the policy directly affect US citizens of Indian origin ?
