@@jefflittle8913 Nepo's problem is lack of consistency and endurance.
In the first 5 games of the WC Nepo was just as good as Carlsen - I'd even say that he was better, if anyone had a chance to win any of these games it was Nepo. If he was able to keep up such a level over the entire match, he would definitely beat Carlsen.
All it took was a single bad move in game 6 endgame - and he collapsed mentally.
Magnus is Magnus not because he is the best in every game - many players are capable of Magnus-level performance or even better. No, Magnus is Magnus because he can keep up such a level throughout an entire tournament. He is the most consistent player in history. That's what makes him the GOAT.

This should be a good wake up call and reminder for everyone (even me a little bit) as to how good Nepo is.
Just because he lost to the best player in chess history everyone wrote him off. Even tho he's basically the only one in the tournament (aside from Fabi) who's actually won a candidates tournament and got a chance to challenge magnus

this was just an inaccurate game, from both of them. Nepo gave so many outs to Ding, who missed each and every one. I mean good for Nepo, but this game wasnt really a show of force.

@@Brien831 humans are not engines, the reason this game was the way it is was because of nepos moves and prep like Ng4, of course you could follow a stockfish line that both players know that ends in a draw and say "wow, what an accurate game"

Hardly. I agree it isn't a great start for Ding but this is one game of fourteen. It isn't beyond imagination that Ding could slap himself across the face, wake up and win five in a row. He's certainly capable. However, I personally think it's going to be between Nepo and Fabi. It is going to be a fantastic tournament but after day one quite a few players showed (in my opinion) that they're simply not ready or they're not strong enough. Game on!
