Crazy game. Not just the moves that were played, but all the at-first-good-looking moves that were AVOIDED because they actually lead to disaster later down the line. Both monster players
Maybe the opposite of zugzwang? You're in Zugzwang when you have to make a move, but every move will worsen your position. This is a move, that does not improve your position, but your opponent now have to find the best refutation or your position becomes much better. I'm just spitballing here.
Love the way that Fabi isn’t afraid to get into extremely sharp positions when playing on the biggest stage. Truly one of my favorite players to watch!
Rxb2 was a tough choice for Fabi. The risk is huge, not just of losing the game but also having Nepo on 2 wins - a red hot Nepo is the last thing any other candidate want
Yeah also Fabi had the black pieces here so it makes sense he was happy with a draw, probably hoping for a win against Nepo later when he has the white pieces.
Agadmator is so fast that the video was up before the game ended. He just analysed how things were bound to go before the players themselves could do it 😂
Nepo is amazing , he has real chances to make it to another WCC because he plays attacking and goes for the win in almost every match, that is the only way to win the candidates, win early and then most of the other challengers will either draw or lose under pressure of the lead from nepo. Fabi is always great in that he is solid and balanced so he also has chances, others are way below carlsen's level, Ding can be a dark horse but he is unlikely to win here because of his inconsistency.
Sometimes there's positions in which engines give 5 "random" (hard to understand) moves and you just can't fathom why they have the evaluation they have. This game has a few of those.
@@andrew-mo1hi Yes, the name of the match was officially WCC 2021. I got that wrong. But it is true that the match was originally scheduled to be played in 2020.
I knew you'd feature this game even though it's a draw based on just the positions alone. Maybe when Fabi has white against Ian the next go around he'll be able to claim the win because he was so close here.
I have been watching agad since 2018 but This is my first time following candidates and damnn am I loving it. I would like to Thank Mr. Mator for making it soo much more enjoyable❤️❤️❤️
@@thebeamerdreamer It was a classical game so there shouldn't be increments until the 61st move which I doubt it went that far but I could be wrong. Fabi also plays bad under time pressure from what I seen. He only lost to Magnus last championship only because Fabi was forced to play him in a quicker time format because of all the draws. Fabi for sure played Magnus better than Nepo played Magnus. Typically this is the format in classical games. 120 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 60 minutes for the next 20 moves and then 15 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting on move 61.
I am asking a very basic doubt, but you had said in the first video of the tournament (Nepo Vs Ding) that no draw can be offered before move 40. How's that possible in this game?
Best coverage of the candidate tournament so far. 👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏 The "official" live broadcast is really bad this year. Hikaru do the analysis only on his games. The recaps on other channels are too weak.
I was wondering who would come out on top with all these pieces scattered everywhere there were no clear cut ways of going about attacking each others king Thanks for the Game Agadmator
At the end, my very strong engine had to play out the next 6 moves of black and then analyze for several minutes before deciding that black was won. Crazy complicated game.
Caruana wasn't willing to risk it , unfortunate, cause if he had he most likely wins this brilliant game. He should have gone for it, it's only Round 2 he won the 1st Round, there is no reason not to try to extend the lead when you have a good chance, instead of just playing safe and taking draws and waiting till the end where you are forced to win on demand if you're not in first place.
there was no time pressure. it's just that Fabi didn't want to take the risk that came with that move. Nepo already had a better position and sacrificing an exchange could lead to problems for black.
@@siddhantjhaveri it was time pressure because he had only 10 min for 8 moves, and you don't sacrifice the exchange if you are not sure and that was the only good move to push for advantage in that position. Sorry for my english
@@Buckship he had more than 22 minutes on the move where he decided to play Rge8 instead of Rxb2. And prior to that he had taken more than 25 minutes for his last 2 moves. So he knew what was happening and was aware of the risk. Also after 8 moves he would have got 1 hour increment so I am sure he wasn't worried about his time situation.
I was watching the game with the engine and i was rly hoping for rook takes bishop, but i also understood that with only 10 min on the clock it would be a very risky line to go for, amazing game anyways!
They should change chess pts format to 3 for win and 1 for a draw in candidates atleast because players will try and play more attacking and exciting chess , draw should be closer to loss for both players so they don't use it was an safety net.
Great video as always, only complain that I have is that you didn't actually consider all of the main threats Nepo had in the position after f4 and just showed refutation of one line, it's much more complicated than that. Nepo was carefully building the tension behind that f4 move and keeping it as a constant threat and if that move was ever to happen and position exploded, it could've gone either way, not to mention the time factor. Fabi knew this as well as Nepo and that's why they both agree not to risk it and they both walked out as the leaders of the tournament.
Cool game but mega disappointing that things ended in a draw; in that position either player could have justified fighting on and instead neither did. Maybe more points for a win (e.g. 1.5 for a win and .5 for a draw instead of 1/0.5) would help.
The candidates should have increment a lot of positions will result in draws due to lack of time and Players like Radjabov will have it very hard with no increment.
Does anyone knows what's Carlsen's unbeaten streak right now? If I'm not wrong the last time he lost was him against Duda when his 125 games steak came to an end.
As for what his current unbeaten streak is, I think its above 36, I think, but below 50. I dont remember the exact number, just that he had 36 games since 2021 Norway Chess.
I count this as a loss for fabiano. He literally was 50minutes up on time due to extreme preparation and still went for the draw while low on time. I mean whats the point?
@@wardsmith2542 Yeah I guess Agmat can't go down every line otherwise videos would be 1 hour long. But I thought there might be something in it as both pxf4 or a knight move by black allows white to open the position and hit f7

No, they are just attacking and at somepoint someone gains a clear advantage, that is not complex, a complex game would be where you don't know who is winning clearly and only few lines which are difficult to find are playable for both player without losing the advantage.
