    What is the point of the telescope mounted where a gunsight would normally go? I see it on a lot of Fokkers, typically used by the Finns

    • @thestarvedfan
      @thestarvedfan 7 лет назад +5

      During the gap between wars, airplane speeds increased from a maximum of around 200 km/h to 500 km/h. It was believed that dog fights were a thing of the pass, and fighter would just engage bombers from long range using their superior speed to keep safe. For this effect, telescopic sights were preferred.
      The Spanish civil war was a rude awakening to this misconception and by 1939 telescopic sights had been removed from all but the most obsolete models (I15 comes to mind)

      @@thestarvedfan so basically, like the one we are experiencing right now with nations creating planes like the F-35 for BVR(beyond visual range) engagements because of missiles now becoming much more faster than normal planes and with a plentiful range?

    A nice one, but with one major mistake. The front engine was obviously producing power when the prop hit the ground. Thus, the blades would bend forwards, since they were "digging" into terra firma. The blade(s) of a static, or idling propeller hitting the ground would of course tend to bend rearwards.
    Please, do pay more attention to physical facts from now on.

    Actually, all 4 did fly. But only 1 could enter some level of combat which was the X-4.
    The aircraft was designed to fly next to the Fokker G.I with the role as regular fighter. The Germans has a very hard time taking that X-4 down as it was proven to be much faster then the German fighters and it killed a lot of the German enemies. The German pilots later clearly stated, that if the war was any later they would have lost in the air due to this being far superior to their fighters. All fighters were destroyed on Dutch soil, the X-4 got shot down after destroying a impressive (confirmed) 140 planes which were both fighters as bombers before it was shot down (not all in 1 sortie of course!). The other 3 were destroyed by the Dutch to keep it from falling into enemy hands. All parts were carefully completely destroyed, unknown to this day is what happened with the papers but it's highly likely that these were destroyed as well.
    Due to the war with the Netherlands happened so quickly and the Dutch having hardly anything to beat the Germans with, this Fokker D.23 was a fear of any German pilot along with the Fokker G.I and was there for a highly wanted prize. While the Germans did capture some Fokker G.I's, they never got their hands on the Fokker D.23's.
    The sound of your model are rather off, the engines it used were pretty heavy engines. Not standard type fighter engines. You got the counter rotation of those props right, that is a big plus. It would however be a pretty quick take off type aircraft, which your model is anything but that. Interior is rather off, but that can easily be forgiven since that is information no one really has. You can however make a similar cockpit to the Fokker D.21 which would have a similar layout. You model moves like a brick, while the real one is a lot quicker.

      I really wonder about your sources. There are no records of the Fokker D.XXIII ever seeing combat. One example downing 140 enemy planes wouldn't have gone unnoticed. Better yet, it would've gone in the annals of military history as an unrivalled achievement. Yet no one makes any mention of such a feat but you.

      The number of aircraft destroyed by Dutch forces during the 10 May 1940 battle isn't common knowledge either, this mainly because American's are too loud shouting how great they are and ignoring everyone else. Still doesn't mean it didn't happen. Same for the D.XXIII

    • @luvnotvor
      @luvnotvor 6 лет назад +5

      To use Double Dutch, you're trying to sell us an ape sandwich. I don't see how you can pin this on the Americans. The exploits of the Dutch pilots flying the D.XXI and G.I have been well documented. Why-oh-why would the historians keep silent about the D.XXIII, especially if there's such a heroic tale to relate?

      "Still doesn't mean it didn't happen. Same for the D.XXIII"
      No your story of a single individual fighter downing 140 German aircraft ina battle that lasted roughly a week is utterly absurd... it did not happen.

      That 2 kiddies do not believe in something, doesn't make the reality less realistic. Go do your research for a change instead of bashing someone that actually did just that for the largest part of his life. If you don't want to believe reality, it's your problem. Have fun with that.
