@@marianacampos7485 it's a reference to one episode of off book (i can't remember which) i think? it was something about some fan that had like a really big crush on zach and they wanted a photo with him, and when jess tried to join the photo, their friend who was there was like 'oh no not you'. (the original guy was like 'no no of course i want her too!!' lmaoo) and they talked about it on there because they still remember that experience 😂
One of my favorite moments is the haircut song from the Backwards Compatible when jess absolutely goes bananas on the "if you let me inside your HAIRRRRRRRR" god i love them
It's all good they completely neglected to put in heartbeat hospital sooooo many good improv songs in that single episode alone Fake it tell you make it being a personal favorite along with the opening song T.T I just want a spotify of all their songs I don't even care if they are full renditions or not T.T
@@acookie7548 "It's been so long since I've seen you. So much has happened between the ages of 11 and 13" is such a funny line. Just a reminder that basically every character is under 14 except the villain who is 35 😭
It reminds a bit about the premise of Heathers the musical, where every teenager is trying really hard to act adult and that is done by chasing down serious actions (for JD at least)
I wish I knew enough about music theory to analyse this, it would be cool to see what types of chord progressions and musical stuff (told you I didn’t know much about music theory) improvised musicals like this would have. P.s. I know improvising songs is not uncommon for people who play instruments, but what interests me is that id guess most of the singers don’t know as much about theory so to see what comes out of their brains with a more subconscious understanding would be cool.
Every episode, Mano provides them with a title that hints at the very basic premise (like "This musical is about scary stories!' or "This one is set in a mall!"), but the cast are hearing that for the first time on stage, immediately before they start. Beyond that, it is all improv! The characters, the story, and the music are completely spontaneous

i always love how in sync zach and jess always are despite it being improv. they’ve been doing this so long they truly read each others minds
They are twins
I think about "My name is Mandy. Maybe you'll 'member it... Monday" quite often
Do you think about it on mondays
I member it then
Hmmm, the missing Member...@@iniratagen9740
7:47 only just now realizing that I'm pretty sure Jess is wearing a necklace that just says "Necklace." I love her so much.
"Catch me if you can" is perfection and altered my brain chemistry
catch me if you can being in the same scene as, ".....laguardia???????" is VERY peak play it by ear and i love both of them equally
The last "wibbely wops" was amazing.
Also the fact that Ashley Ward isn't in this video more is absolutely criminal.
8:14 Ashley Ward on those high notes really jsust draws EVERYTHING together omg i NEED to see more of her!!
Ross and Giavanni just really put out banger after banger whenever they're on huh
7:22 I cannot possibly explain what that one clip does to my brain but I love it
No because same. That whole episode (and that song especially) just tickles my brain in a way I can't properly word. God I love The Muck of Merkmere.
"makes me wanna push jess out of a photo op if you know what i mean" 😂
ME TOO BESTIE
wait, what does it mean?

5:39 PLEASE I REPLAYED THAT BIT LIKE FIFTEEN TIMES WHEN I WATCHED THE EPISODE

Love this! I hope Play It By Ear gets more love because it’s absolutely phenomenal
GLORIOUS
They're so unironically good
(And, love the subtitles. So accurate)
where are the subtitles?
@@chavamora3863I think OP means the captions I edited into the video
The entirety of the steampunk rap can be in here imo
As a choir & musical theatre person i've gotta say you have very good taste
There aren’t near enough Murkmere clips in this. Good video

the entire cast save the villain is like six years old 🤣 love that ep

PLAYITBYEAR DOESN'T HAVE ENOUGH ATTENTION
THANK YOU FOR THIS i love play it by ear so much
3:40 It always upsets me how she missed an opportunity here to slip in the episode title! "And it made a cornhole in one"!! It would be perfect 😂
Shit....I need to rewatch Space Rocks again
this is amazing omg thank you for this!

rashawn scott!!! My queen fr
Such an amazing edit!!
why is the self reflection song from heebie jeebies not here it's one of my favourites
i loooooooove pibe they are all so talented. my only grip is that at 3:40 I wish jess had said "a cornhole in hole" just because it's silly
i think about 5:30 SO much. the way their voices blend ohhhh BABY
waiiiiit, where'd you get the font from?? :O what is it called?
edit: also this reminds me that i really really need to rewatch season 1
It's called Ambiguity Radical! I think I mostly used the Semibold one
This surely cant ALL be improv, like do they have characters, plot outline or music they know beforehand?
Every episode, Mano provides them with a title that hints at the very basic premise (like "This musical is about scary stories!' or "This one is set in a mall!"), but the cast are hearing that for the first time on stage, immediately before they start.
Beyond that, it is all improv! The characters, the story, and the music are completely spontaneous
To add to that, Jess and Zach have been doing this for years on their podcast, Off Book. They have a ton of practice on doing improvised musicals.
What episode is 5:02 from?
"Can You Fix Me (Like I'm A Refrigerator)?" is from Trade School Musical 2!
and..... vengencccceeeee
