350-600$+ at a shop to change. Thats rediculous, thanks bro for the video. Ive been having problems starting my 05 sts i dont think its the alternator but its worth a shot from the symptoms it has. Could be something simple or a new battery but however the case on a budget this video is helping me keep finances to a minimal.
Your welcome brother, Great to hear this!! I would still take the battery off and have it checked first so it save u time then having to go through so much. May I ask what is it doing? Have you not Crunk it up in some time or is it just not keeping the battery charged? Just wondering let me know.🤝🏽🤜🏾🤛🏾
It seems it's the battery terminal/post I replaced the battery a couple weeks ago and I guess I may have tightened it too tightly and damaged the screw in stuff.. the result has been the push button not working, or being delayed, and while driving Jerking gears, when it downshifts while breaking there's huge jerks as well. I twist the screw around abit and at times it will work. So when it fires right up(it seems) then I have a good connection, it can't be too tight otherwise it's 'janky' with the symptoms. So at this moment I'm finding a sweet spot for the positive screw in. That's as far as I got so far. Otherwise there's full power off and on if theory doesn't apply.. lol, either way thanks. I didn't know what an alternator even looked like.
Yes you are very welcome!! Not many videos for the StS I had to try to make one! 😁 I'll be doing more I'm glad it could be some help! Please like and subscribe if u can and definitely share!! Thank you again!! KATMANDU2
Just did the job. Quit a bit harder than it seems. Issues where mainly clearance in getting to the bolts and wires in back of the alternator. I highly recommend removing that damn top rubber radiator hose. Seriously gets in the way and human skin tends to stick while rubbing your arm down reaching for the alternator. The bolt on the single wire on the back was also a real PITA to remove. Fairly difficult to get the 3 bolts to line up and get started as well. Hope this helps the next one to do this job.
@@juanjohnson3170 it could be your starter brother. You can go to your nearest auto store and rent a tester to check what code comes up and you let them know and they will tell u what the code means. If its the starter or the alternator. When was the last time you changed out the battery?
Manny thank you for the message! How I came to know it was the alternator. My engine light had come on so I took it to my near by auto store witch is Autozone and the salesman connected a diagnostic reader to the car and it let us know it was the alternator. By the way if u ever have a problem with your vehicle you can take it to the near by auto store and they will give u a free diagnostic check. If u can pass on my video for me thru Facebook or any source of social networking I gladly appreciate it. And also if you can give me a thumbs up for likes on my video. Thanks again Manny!!😎
I have a problem with my sts 07 3.6 my battery keeps draining and it's a 3 month old now it won't start and it just makes sound like a dead battery do you think could be the alternator not holding charge
Hello Juan, good day to you sir,, yes it sounds like the Battery isn't holding charge. It's a three month old Battery yes the alternator could definitely be your number one reason it is being drained. Try this test start the car, charge it if it wont start. After its started go to the Battery and disconnect the negative post. If the car shuts off when u disconnect the negative post. Then it's your alternator. If the car continues to run then the alternator is not the problem. Check that out and let me know how it turns out.
Also if the Battery is dead take it to autozone they will charge it for free also if it's the alternator take it off and they can test it as well. Its really not hard to do if u have problems just take your cell phone and record every step of the process.
Thank you bro! I paid 25$ for a used alternator at a salvage shop. That's how much it costed me to fix it. Saving big. I appreciate it 🙏
Very excited to hear this great news bro!! I'm glad I could save you money and be a help to u!! Well done my bro🤝🏽💯

Also, a 3/4" ratchet fits perfectly in the lower hole of the idler pulley.
Is it the same for an 07
Yes it should be the same, not to much of a different set up.
@@assassingee when it’s cold my sts don’t start the first time and always start the second time

What size wrench
Hello B Scott i cant remember actually what size wrench I used, but u can im google the size wrench and it should come up.
15mm
On a STS V it seems more harder to get to the alternator
Were u able to change it out? Sorry for my late response.
No I wasn’t able to change it out however it does look like the pulley down-low is located differently
V8 is way different from v6, do you think I can email you and send a picture of where it goes
@@VShonSummons03 yes you can my email is Ggee@bellflight.com send me the pictures and we will see what we can come up with.👍
I actually just figured it out lol
