Some people just aren’t supposed to be head coaches. That doesn’t mean that they are bad coaches. They could very easily be the greatest assistant coach/coordinator to ever exist, and just not be a fit for the role of head coach. That shouldn’t be viewed as a bad thing. You need great assistant coaches/coordinators to have a great team. Head coaches can’t be great with bad coordinators and bad assistant coaches. It just won’t happen.

But, they do have to be the guy who keeps everyone else on time and fully aware of what they need to be doing to take advantage of those moments, and that often means having enough knowledge of the side of the ball they were best in, that they could also translate that to their assistants on the other side of the ball when needed, in a way that they could digest it and apply it to what they needed to do. It is a position of managing people and personalities, but you can’t be a great head coach if you aren’t a great assistant coach first. I'm a diehard Raider fan. And most Raider fans hate me for having this opinion, but McDaniels has not been given the proper amount of time to establish a system as complicated as his is. bout to go on a lil rant here. first things first, the ignorant raider fans (theres a lot of em) hated mcdaniels because he was a patriot and he was bringing the "patriot way" with him. The only reason they hate the patriots is because of the tuck rule game (yes it was a fumble). but that game made the raiders and patriots even. In the AFC divisional Playoff game in 1976, Patriots got called for roughing the passer, when replays even showed that ken stabler clearly ducked and his head wasnt hit by ray hamilton. Raiders went on to win this game, then they won the superbowl. Patriots won the superbowl after the tuck rule game. So, yeah. It made us even. But raider fans didnt like hearing this A lot of raider fans hate him because he got rid of Carr, but i tell them that they literally extended carr and gave him his no-trade clause. That was one of the first things they did! Then, from what i noticed, Carr seemed to have some habits he picked up from Grudens time, where he would demand full control over the offense. It's to my understanding that mcdaniels needs a qb who is more of a yes man and runs the plays exactly as called. Simple one to two read progressions and boom. simple, but carr would change the play at the line and do terribly. When mcdaniels finally benched Carr in favor of Stidham, that was the best our offense looked all season. And that was against the 49ers who had the best defense. Granted, the 49ers didnt have film on stidham so that helped stidham for sure.. but still. The offense looked more opened up like mcdaniels was able to use more of the playbook. Stidham played in McDaniels' offense in 2019 and 2020, so he atleast had some semi-recent experience running the offense, even if he was a backup.. then during the offseason, for some damn reason, stidham decides to go to denver to go play for his friend who is the broncos qb coach? may be wrong on details. just going off my memory.. but suddenly because of this, he was now without a QB that has experience in his sytem.. and ofcourse brady retired. so that wasnt an option either. Out of pure desperation, they're forced to sign *barf* Brian Hoyer and Jimmy Garappolo. Then they draft Aiden O'connell. Stidham played in mcdaniels system in 2020. Garappolo played in it way back in 2016. Hoyer played in mcdaniels' system in 2022, which i thought was going to be amazing for o'connells development, but apparently Hoyer is a dick (basing this off of johnny manziel). So, yeah. McDaniels was already in the hot seat for getting rid of Carr. Then stidham leaves to join the broncos (possibly because of AOC and he didnt wanna be a bridgegap qb, or again the friend thing).. but yeah.. mcdaniels is in the hot seat and has to rely on *barf* Garapollo. He was doomed. He should have been given one more year for AOC to develop, then see how he does in year 3. but Bowl cut davis was pressured by the fans. Although i do agree that it seemed like mcdaniels lost the locker room and if a coach loses the locker room, then its over for him. he's gotta go.. but any teams locker room would be toxic if they arent performing as well as they were in the previous system when they made the playoffs. A coach worth anything needs three years to build his team first year is when he figures out who fits his system. Then he cuts the ones that dont. second year, you draft replacements and sign veterans to mentor them. this was when AOC was drafted and the mentors were set in place. year three, the pieces start to come together. Mcdaniels didnt get this in Denver and he didnt get this in Vegas. Dude deserves a chance with an owner that isnt a puss. Now Raiders have Antonio Pierce, who was the interim head coach and i honestly expected him to be fired just like bisaccia was before him when he was the interim coach, but davis gave him the job 100% because of pressure from the fans. Dude is a personality hire. he skipped all the steps it takes to be a coach in the NFL. He's a frikkin High school coach. AP won some games sure, but look at who he beat... easton stick, tommy devito, jarrett stidham, zach wilson, and mahomes. Beating mahomes was awesome on christmas day, but the others? those were easy wins. he didn't win the job in my opinion. McDaniels mentioned the first year of a qb is him climbing the mountain.. poor AOC didnt even get to climb it before he was asked to start because of how terrible jimmy and hoyer were. Now he's having to learn Getsys offense. terrible.
